About
The largest children's museum in the world just got even bigger with the addition of a new 7.5-acre outdoor health and fitness area that encourages activity through multiple sports. The new space, called Riley Children's Health Sports Legends Experience includes basketball, football, hockey, soccer, pedal car racing (drag strip and oval track), golf, baseball, and tennis. The indoor portion of the new area includes the National Art Museum of Sport along with the World of Sport and History of Hoops. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis itself is made up of 500,000 square feet with exhibits and activities that are fun and interesting for the entire family as they explore the physical and natural sciences, history, world cultures and the arts through exciting interactive exhibits on five floors. Families will discover some of the most rare dinosaur fossils in the world and see what it's like to live and work in space. There's also a theater with children's plays and live entertainment.

    Fun one time experience
We took advantage of one of their free days (they have them 4 times a year) and were so glad we did. We, as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 young children, ages 5 and 9), had a great time. Parking is free in the parking garage and in the overflow lots as well. We do recommend having quarters (at least 4) if you plan to use lockers there to hold your items while there. Also if your little one wants to ride the carousel ride, you will need to have $1 bills. So there are 4 floors to the museum, we recommend starting on the top floor (4th floor) to see the animals and do the carousel ride. It is less busy up there, especially if you go early in the day. The 3rd floor is a playscape for kids age 5 and under (water, sand, music, and more.) This floor also has the Power of Children exhibit featuring stories of how children have made an impact like Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges, and more more. There are no graphic images, but be aware there is some content that have sensitive topes that could need further discussion with kiddos. 2nd floor had a few exhibits, Take Me to Greece and Scooby Doo (temporary exhibit). On the first floor is the Dinosphere exhibit and the Riley Sports Experience. The Dinosphere has a great combo of hands on and visual only with 2 levels of activities. The Riley Sports Experience was very fun and full of hands on activities. One odd thing was that the food count on the ground floor was out of several food items by 3:30pm, so plan ahead if you need to get food from the Food Court. Overall we enjoyed our visit, spent about 5 hours, and had more than enough time to visit everything we wanted. We drove over 2 hours to visit, but honestly probably won't visit again anytime soon. We do recommend families checking it out at least once.

A place you have to go and see indeed !
This is one of the most amazing places to visit with five floors for kids, teens, adults and family to play and interact with all kinds of things with nature, life, discovery, and just plain fun for anyone. They’ve done amazing job with all the sections on all floors from memberbilla to play art and drawing. It will take you a whole 4 to 5 hours to see everything and if you want to play out on the sports complex which we didn’t even go to due to weather at the time. It is so worth your time and effort to go being the worlds largest children’s museum in the world. Go and see !!

Great visit - even for adults and teens
We recently visited Indianapolis and our teenage kids suggested visiting the children’s museum . We adults were sceptical at first, especially given the somewhat steep entrance fee. But we soon discovered our inner child and had a ton of fun.

    High ticket price
Expensive to get in. Two adults and one child was over $100. That said there is a lot to see and do. Our 5 year old seemed to have a good time, but I don’t see us going out of our way to go back. If we were local I see this being a great place to get a membership and go often, as out of towners the price seemed high.

    Fun for everyone
Drove in from Kansas City specifically to do this for our family vacation. From beginning to end, the entire experience was amazing. Parking was a breeze, they skywalk from the garage to the musuem was a great touch, we bought tickets online and it sped things along quickly, all the exhibits were staffed and working properly. Outside, the staff assisting with the sports experience were all friendly and engaging with the kids. The entire day was great. A good problem to have is there’s so much to do, you have to decide what you really want to do. We showed up short after opening for the day and stayed until it was closing and didn’t make it to the top floors inside. It’s a little pricey, but well worth it

First time at the children's museum of Indianapolis
Parking garage with a walk over in to the museum. We got the best parking spot. Admission is expensive 36 dollars I believe it was. But the experience was first rate. Real dinosaur bones being exhumed at the lab. Fossils about. Items of nostalgia. Outside you are welcome to play different sporting events do not miss that. Will definitely return.

    Fun filled day.
A FULL day of activities at this children's museum. Got there at 10:10 and didn't leave until 4:30 pm. So many things to do and to see. Able to bring your own food and/or drinks but some areas don't allow open drinks. The highlight of our trip was all the dinosaur bones and space/aeronautics. The cafeteria had spoiled milk and they apparently weren't aware. They allow strollers and free parking in a covered garage. Will return when my second child is older. On another note, they do have a special area for babies to play in. That was great!! Well thought of.

    9 year old LOVED ir!
Went here on Tuesday with my 9 year old granddaughter. She had so much fun! First sheloved the sports activities. The young people working these activities were so warm and friendly to the kids. Next we went to the exhibits. So many fun ibteractive things to do and see. Loved the dinosaurs. Taking a tv broadcast was fun. Minecraft was cool. The Taverna at Greece exhibit was a real highlight. There were tons of kids working together to "serve the customers". They were all having so much fun! The Food Court was a little pricey but food was good and Starbucks prices about the same. Close, free parking. Other reviews mentioned crowding, but even though there were lots of people there, we were able to see all exhibit and do all activities with only a few short wants Overall a fabulous time for me and my granddaughter. So worth the money.

    Neat place
We spent the majority of a day wandering around the Children's Museum. We had a few free vouchers through work but would pay to go again to see the new exhibits when they are available. We were a group of adults and were able to find things of interest wherever we went.

Always a hit with our family over the past 30 years. I attended as a kid, my children loved it and now my grandchildren do too. There was something for everyone from ages 3-12. They had a ticketing software change that messed up my pre-paid tickets so was glad I arrived early to straighten it out. Don’t miss it!

All of "hands on" activities are closed. They are closed with a combination of things block entrance and notes stating "This hands on activity is temporarily closed for your safety.") There is a very little beside "touch screen" activities for kids to do here.

Why does the museum think somebody can sanitize a touch screen, but not a fishing pole or play food? Whatever the reason, the result is paying a lot of money so that your kids can play on screens (on games much less inventive than any ipad app...)

The few items that remain open are poorly done. The carousel has every other row of animals marked off for spacing - fine. But, which row did they mark for spacing - the row that actually goes up and down. Why choose to make the carousel as lame as possible? Who knows, but that general theory of suck as much fun of everything permeates the museum.

Maybe my expectations were set too high given the ticket price and national attention, but they weren't met. In terms of critical feedback to the museum, the outdoor Sports Legends Experience desparately needs some playground shades or sail shades to make it more comfortable for children. The indoor attractions are alright, but it didn't feel good as a parent to hear my 4, 7 and 8 yo children complain of boredom. My 7 yo liked playing tennis the most, but many communities provide free access to courts. I don't recommend this museum for tourists, but this opinion is tied to my sense of value for cost.

Don’t get me wrong the museum is nice and I think we would have enjoyed it more if our kids were smaller (13 and 9). It was very crowded with strollers and small children, along with parents yelling at their small children. It just wasn’t for us but it is a Children’s Museum so I did expect that. The Dinosaur exhibit was the best part and I also enjoyed the room that had Anne Franke’s story. Glad we at least got to check this off the bucket list but not something that we will do again.

Given how large it is, I thought this would be a great museum. It’s not. My seven year old was bored and so were my husband and I. The exhibits aren’t that interesting and there isn’t as many interactive activities as at other museums. Considering how expensive this museum is, I would expect it to be much better. The dinosaur exhibit was closed, which was very disappointing. Maybe younger children would like it better. I think it’s geared to smaller kids. The building itself also seems very dated and the gift shop is so expensive, as most museum gift shops are. Our favorite part was the outdoor sports area but being summer, it was unbearably hot. They have very little shade, which seems like it could be remedied easily and install some outdoor fans. The turf is even hotter than regular grass so it was uncomfortable. I would not come back.

For kids it’s definitely worth it. The fossils of the dinosaurs itself was worth the price of admission as my grandson enjoyed it. Slow the kids down and gave them “experience” the entire museum. They had a tendency to rush from one exhibit to another. Lots of things to do in the outside area. You could shoot hoops, golf, race cars, play soccer or hockey or just run around the track. Cost was reasonable.

A review from a couple of grandparents looking to purchase a birthday present for our grandson who loves science - they would NOT let us into the gift shop to buy a gift (yes we knew it would would be more expensive here but we’re traveling through Indiana and wanted to find him something unique. We live in Virginia and our grandson lives in Idaho.) The masked gentleman at the front admission counter would not allow us into the gift shop even though the gift shop is to the left of the admission counter. We were to buy tickets to go spend money in the gift shop! If he was worried about us trying to see the museum without paying he or another associate could have walked us over to the shop. It was 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon with no one else in line. He just told us to go online and looked away. Not acceptable and we will not recommend this Children’s Museum to family especially after reading several other reviews about broken and/or blocked off exhibits.

We spent much of the day here during our visit to Indianapolis, having heard a lot of good things about the museum. It was enjoyable, but for the price and reputation we were somewhat disappointed.

It is a nice facility with interesting exhibits, but many activities require enough time that we spent much of the day in lines, despite limited capacity due to COVID. The activities themselves were fun, but there wasn't much opportunity for older children to learn things. Having more panels with information would have made the experience more enjoyable, especially while waiting in lines.

The outdoor area was the most enjoyable, but here, too, the lines were somewhat frustrating. I'm glad that we went, but I don't think we would spend the money to go again.

(FREE parking is a nice bonus, though!)

Went here on a Thursday in July and it was pretty jammed. They use dynamic pricing for admission here. Bottom line is you can save a few dollars if you go during the week and buy your tickets up to two weeks in advance. Still cost us over $110 for a family of four.

Will give the museum credit for not charging for parking. Parking garage connects to the museum with a skywalk and there are additional surface lots too that are free.

This is supposed to be the largest children’s museum in the country, and while it is large, the space is under utilized. The original five floor part of the museum has many gallery spaces that are not open and blocked off. We found many things in the exhibits broken too. This included one of the headliners, which was an early 20th century carousel.

For the amount of people this museum attracts and the prices they charge, you would think they could keep the exhibits in working order.

Enjoyed the outdoor sports area but we went on a brutally hot day and they closed this area by the afternoon due to the heat. Therefore, if you are there on a hot day, go in the morning. More disappointing was they had closed off the racing area and baseball field for reasons unknown while the outdoor area was still open. Also not working was the timers and scoreboards in the basketball area.

Parts of the museum were uncomfortably warm during the day, especially the dinosaur area and the food court seating area. Wasn’t sure if the air conditioning was working in this area or what was going on.

Overall, seems to be a lack of management focus on maintenance and giving the customers a great experience.

Kids (7 and 10) enjoyed their time but this was not even close to their favorite children’s museum. Way behind the museum of play in Rochester and other kids museums we visited.

The Children's Museum has so much to offer for all interests. It has a great dinosaur exhibit, rotating specialty exhibits, great children's play areas and a host of educational offerings. As members you can also see plays, theatres, hold parties and much more. The family membership is very reasonable and is well worth the cost. Highly Recommend

I can't say enough good things about this place. My girls 10 & 8 absolutely loved each. There are a ton of different exhibits to include dinosaurs, space, pop culture and many others. There is free parking within walking distance. The sports exhibits where kids can try a variety of sports like baseball, tennis, and football is a bit win for my kids. They have a food court area with limited choices at a hefty price, but if you eat before you go you won't even need that.
