This documentary was very informative. I have many questions as to what were they thinking and to why things had gone so terribly wrong....... having started from the beginning, it should have been handled much more differently.
It sickens me concerning the obvious injustice placed on this Native American Tribe and Native American treatment in general. My heart goes out to these people who just want to live a happy peaceful stable life. I was probably around 10 or 11 years old when this happened but I was old enough to know and understand that hate continues to plaque our nation.
Thank you for all who participated in taking a positive stand in the making of this film. Sadly, in reality, some outcomes, I feel, remain unchanged and there's still much injustice remaining concerning this whole story and many more like it.

Halfway through this film I was filled with a sense of serious shame at how our government and its pit bull FBI were such depraved and savage antagonists supporting a serial murderer like Wilson against innocent people and reenacting the massacre at Wounded Knee all over again. How can our own insidious government get away with such barbarism? Mr. Peltier is obviously a scapegoat of the FBI who was clearly extradited from Canada on coerced thus perjured affidavits and then railroaded for life. The FBI did an outstanding job using fear, intimidation outright lies, and perjured testimony to cover up the death of their two agents who appeared to get exactly what they wanted thus deserved - a firefight over a pair of allegedly stolen cowboy boots. Furthermore, it begs to wonder had Wilson given the Indians the money that was theirs instead of stealing it he may have had enough to buy the boots. As far as Freeh showing up at Mr. Peltier's parole hearing and recommending against it, you should know that Luis Freeh went on in the FBI to actually cause the eventual 9/11 tragedy when he conspired with Thomas Pickard to derail John O'Neil and what turned out to be the unerringly correct prediction of the 9/11 threat he could have stopped in time (see "The Man Who Knew") had our ambassador to Yemen, Barbara Bodine also not stabbed O'Neil in th back (the guy who blew up the USS Cole knew who would commit 9/11 at the time but thanks to Bodine Freeh and Pickard forbid him to return to interview Yousef). Our own government is filled with pettiness and blunders that are inexcusable as illustrated in this great film that is filled with FACTS because it was done in retrospect AFTER the truth finally emerged. With any luck soon-to-be President Clinton will be able to pardon him soon making this superb film even more credible.

I only found out last year my mother was a little more than half Indigenous. Bit as I am learning about our history I am also learning about the atrocities that have been done to us sonce the colonization of 1492. This documentary is very improtant for me to watch. I will also have my son watch this as well. In schools they do not teach these things and I feel as if they do not because they want us to be docile and shuffling our feet. I have been also teaching my son about his African roots. I want him to question everything so that way no one can take advantage of him nore tell him about his own history like people so often try to do with me. People always ask me why I have RBS I tell them if you went through what I did and just now learning about the history of why one is always angry you'd be angry anf have resting face as well.

Living in SD, I am familiar with most events in this documentary and recognize some of the better-known people involved - Kunstler, John Trudell, Leonard Peltier, Janklow, etc. But the film should have identified every person interviewed: FBI agents, attorneys for both sides, jurors, witnesses. You don't know who people are or why they're saying what they're saying. It was an annoying and surprising omission. Hence, the loss of one star.

After knowing little about the story, just bits and pieces from newspapers, I've finally seen this story by Robert Redford Productions. I've always thought Leonard Peltier was sent to prison for murders he didn't commit based on false information provided by the FBI. The FBI made a mistake that quickly escalated into a gun fight with people dying. Two FBI agents and Indians were killed. The dead FBI agents become martyrs and the hunt is on to 'Nail' the killer. As you listen to those interviewed, Leonard Peltier, FBI agents, trial Judges, A.I.M. members, attorneys, even the jury foreman of the Fargo, ND trial of the first two men put on trial for the murders of the FBI agents. You will begin to understand how corrupt the trials were from the FBI side and that even today some 40 years later not all the 'evidence' against Leonard Peltier has been given to his attorney despite Freedom of Information Act. The is one story you need to see and also read the book In The Spirit Of Crazy Horse by Peter Matthiessen.

Die DVD ist in Deutschland mit gängigen Geräten nicht abspielbar, das hätte man gern vorher gewusst. Äußerst schade, denn es handelt sich um die Dokumentation eines Falles rund ums FBI, aus dem Michael Apted seinen Film "Thunderheart" (Halbblut) drehte. Man sollte die Disc nicht in den DVD Recorder legen, sondern ins PC-Laufwerk. Dort startet sie auch nicht mit Windows Media Player, sondern man muss den VLC-Media Player runterladen (kostenlos). Das Ergebnis lohnt sich - es ist eine brisante Doku über den Fall von Leonard Peltier, der immer noch unschuldig in Haft sitzt (Stand 2021).
