Speed when reading a script?
Hello everyone. My main language is Spanish and English as second. I might have a problem trying to find my voice when recording a script. I do video games videos (mostly Nintendo) and well how am I suppost to talk when I’m reading a script? Do I have to show more energy? or just let things flow? The thing is, if I talk normally I show no emotions and feel like monotone, but if I talk a bit faster I seem to show more emotion and more energy. Now, is it actually considered faking or lying if I talk more energetic? I mean, I do feel happy when reading a script and I want to make the best out of it. do I talk fast or slow?
Think about how in school when you had to present a project or something in front of the class. Teachers always stressed to have eye contact, avoid "ums", speak in an engaging way, etc.. Scripting YT is sort of a similar thing, so I wouldn't feel hung up about trying to speak in a more engaging way with your audience.
gotchu. I thing I just need to speak more clearly wether im speaking fast or slow.
Assuming you're not doing it live, you have the benefit of pausing and trying again at any point of reading the script. Use that to your advantage. Practice as much as you need, and record in chunks if you feel like you can't maintain a consistent tone when recording the script from start to finish.
As for whether or not you should read it slowly or quickly...I guess you'd have to ask yourself that. If someone else were to make your video and present it to you, would you have rathered they read the script slowly or quickly?
And not to colour your opinion, but I do think most people prefer it if the video comes off as passionate. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to read it quickly, just that you need to make sure your audience understands your passion for the subject. For example, I really like Avalanche Reviews' videos, and he doesn't exactly speed through his scripts unlike someone like maybe MatPat. Either way, think of it like telling your friends or family about something you're interested in, and how exactly you'd approach that.
huge thanks! by passion we have to show emotions?

Look up something called inflection.
Treat a script like a song, things go up and things go down depending on what it should feel like.
What you could do, is record it in Spanish, and translate that feeling into English.
Hola! Hoy, vamos a hablar sobre VIDEOJUEGOS!
If you need more help, just make short scripts and upload shorts, the English speakers will correct or comment on what doesn’t work well.
ayo thanks for this! I actually have a question. Is it better to talk slowly but my voice is more understandable?
Make it understandable and clear, then cut out the spaces in between pauses.
Practice makes better!
Don’t try to sound sing songy. Bad.
You missed the point. We all speak in “melody”. Unless you are monotone.
Listen to a radio newscaster. I have 50 yrs experience. Breath from your gut, put on a physical smile and talk to one person. One to one report. Not hi everybody! Communicate ideas. Don’t just read words. Give yourself at least three years to develop your style.read the King James Version of the Bible each day.
