- Due to Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, in the early 70s large number of professionals began coming to the US. Influx in medical and science fields, historically grounds the Model Minority image

Acts Reducing Professionals Immigration
o 1976 Health Professional Educational Assistance Act
• Alien physicians/surgeons must pass a National Board of Medical Examination exam, or have an equivalent visa to apply to enter US
o 1977 Eilberg Act
• Employers have to file an application, and receive a certificate for each alien employed. Also have to prove that they were unable to recruit a US citizen
