David A. Smith, 74, of Pearl River, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022, in Pearl River. David was born June 18, 1947, in Cleveland, Tennessee to Karl and Betty Smith. David served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam. He later became an air traffic controller, a career he greatly enjoyed and one that brought him to the New Orleans area in 1979. David was also a pilot, flight instructor, an avid golfer, and a long-time member of his church choir. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev James Smith; and a sister, Melanie Sue Smith. David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat Smith; two children, Theodore Smith, Brandy Blackwell (Trey); two sisters, Julie Sadler, Rachel Stanley; five grandchildren, Cort, Connor, Victoria, Wesley, and Annabeth Blackwell. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, 433 Erlanger Drive, Slidell LA 70458. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will be in Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. Please visit www.honakerforestlawn.com to sign guestbook. I knew David (Butch) when we were both kids.. He and his family would visit his dad's mom and dad in Chattanooga.
I have fond memories of him and his family.
