EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight's Bryce Ruthven and Melissa Rawson break their silence on THAT boxing match brawl as they bring their premature twins home for Christmas

Married At First Sight couple Bryce Ruthven and Melissa Rawson have defended their decision to attend a now-infamous celebrity boxing fight despite only recently bringing their premature twins home from the hospital.

Melissa, 32, said fans were wrong to assume 'we just lifted the boys out of NICU then went out', telling Daily Mail Australia their sons, Levi and Tate, had actually been home for two weeks before they took their first well-deserved night off as new parents.

The babies, who were born 10 weeks premature on October 16, were staying with their grandparents when the couple attended the 'Whatever It Takes' boxing event in Melbourne on Friday - which ended in violence when one of the competitors tried to pick a fight with Bryce in the crowd.

'I think every parent, whether they're new to parenting, or they've been parenting for 20 or 30 years, every parent is going to have a night out and go and hang out with friends,' Bryce said.

'I guess one thing that's always been told to us from family and friends is that you've got to also focus on your relationship with each other, and make sure that stays strong and basically that's what we were doing,' he added.

Bryce continued: 'The boys were in safe and capable hands with Melissa's parents; we wouldn't just leave them with anyone.'

'I had mum guilt': Melissa, 32, said fans were wrong to assume 'we just lifted the boys out of NICU then went out', telling Daily Mail Australia their babies had actually been home for two weeks before they took their first well-deserved night off as new parents

'We could have taken them to the boxing! But it probably wasn't the right environment for them to be fair,' he laughed.

Brushing off those criticising his parenting, he concluded: 'It's one of those things where people have their opinions and sometimes they should just respect other people's decisions.'

Melissa added that trolls on social media had made her feel 'mum guilt' for simply trying to have a night out with her fiancé.

It comes after the couple were forced to cut short their date night on Friday after a brawl erupted between Bryce, 32, and his MAFS rival Sam Carraro following a boxing match.

The fight began when Sam, upon winning his round against Love Island star Todd Elton, challenged Bryce to a future bout.

Sam, 33, then stepped out of the ring and Bryce motioned him over.

The pair lunged at one another, exchanging blows as several bystanders, including their MAFS co-star Steve Burley, pried them apart.

Christmas miracle: Their negative result means that the couple won't have to cancel plans on celebrating the homecoming of their premature twin boys, Levi and Tate

Christmas came early for the couple earlier this month when they were given the all clear to take their sons, Levi and Tate, home from the hospital.

Bryce and Melissa couldn't hold back their excitement as they spoke of spending the holidays together as a family of four after their boys spent almost two and a half months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

'We've had the boys home for almost two weeks now,' Bryce revealed.

'We've been enjoying their time and giving them the feeling of home. It's been good, keeping them to ourselves, family and friends.'

Melissa said it was the 'best feeling ever' to have their twins home for Christmas.

'They get to meet all our family and friends, and it's actually exciting to be able to celebrate a Christmas with babies, and actually spoil them this year,' she gushed.

'I've never had to really buy presents before, and I love the fact that I can just dote on them even though they don't really know what Christmas is yet,' she continued.

Melissa's parents, sister and grandparents will be joining them for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

'It's going to be a great day for the all family to be able to dote on them. It's going to be a really, really special day,' she said.

Melissa revealed she was initially concerned her twins wouldn't make it home for the holidays after they were born 10 weeks before their due date on October 16.

The babies were taken to the NICU where they stayed for almost two and a half months.

'It was a little touch and go the last few weeks before the boys came out of hospital, but they had this really quick turnaround,' she said.

'There just were leaps and bounds in the hospital with all of their goals they needed to reach.

'We were so rapt and we found out a couple of weeks ago they were coming home, and they just excelled in their health.

'They're basically normal babies now. You wouldn't even know they were premature except that they really, really small.'

The couple announced their pregnancy in July, and also revealed they were engaged to be married.

Bryce and Melissa appeared on the 2020 season of Married at First Sight.
