if you have a smart TV, if you have a smart TV by this app .
This is the best way to watch shows. You should definitely pay the few extra dollars to get rid of the commercials. Because if not then you watch the same commercials over and over again. I would definitely recommend this to people who do not want to pay a lot of money to Have DirecTV. This is definitely a cheaper choice to watch regular TV. If you have a smart TV this is definitely the way to go use this app.
Hulu is just incredible and offers so many great things for only $6.99 a month with adds! I can stand a few adds for this price and actually like some of the Adds lately, crazy but true! Hulu has great originals, awesome movies and t.v. shows and all at a great price! My one complaint with them is that the streaming does not remember where you are sometimes and then you have to find where you were manually by episode, and this is very frustrating! Also if you try and go back or forward, it takes a lot to get the right looping back bc the voicing goes wonky and you have to keep going back and back until it adjusts again and for this reason I usually just don't bother and miss things occasionally which I should not have to but other this this the picture is very clear and the quality and variety are really great and appreciate Hulu very much for this as well as the low price!
I do not have traditional TV, I live out in the country and the choices are limited to Satellite services. I would rather not pay for the higher packages to have some channels and Hulu Plus gives me plenty of choices and I watch all of my favorite shows on it. I have a Roku (in two rooms) so can stream to both TV's. I also have a wonderful Kindle Fire :) and have the Hulu Plus app on this. I've seen some reviews where people are complaining about commercials and then some station choices to not allow specific programs to be on Hulu. In that regard, really if I paid $40.00 a month for Satellite I would have commercials. It is what it is. TV Stations and Hulu Plus which now have their own shows rely on commercials to pay for the shows they make. The $7.99 a month for Hulu Plus or $40.00 or more bill for TV does not pay for the production of these shows we all love.
I've also seen some complaints about freezing and whatnot. In my experience this has been either an issue with my provider they admit our area is severely oversold or an issue with old equipment or possibly the software (app) being outdated. Recently that happened to me on my Kindle and I checked the app via my Kindle and there was an update available and that fixed the issue completely.
Another thing, if you have issues streaming and this comes down to provider providing slow downloads, on the Kindle, with the Hulu Plus app open if you tap the screen to bring up the progress bar, next to the sound icon, click on the settings icon and choose a medium or low format. Hulu Plus streams in HD first and doesn't try to adjust for this automatically like Netflix and Amazon does that is definitely something that Hulu needs to address but for $7.99 a month that is something I will deal with until it is done and is not a reflection of the app itself but of the Hulu Service.
Bottom line, I like the Hulu Plus service and will keep using it. It's best on my modern flat screen tv.
You need an internet connection and a device to stream Hulu Plus. I use my Wii, kindle and computer. I don't know if you have an internet ready tv that you can go thru the tv without some device to stream it. I did't check out whether different streaming devices can pick up where you left off on a different streaming device.
Downloading Hulu Plus is free, but the service requires a subscription after a one week free trial. I set mine up thru Paypal. You can do it on most debit and credit cards. Without some promotional code you've got to set up the payment plan before the free trial period.
I've read a number of reviews of Hulu Plus and many of them were bad. There are a wide variety of tv shows and movies to choose. Some are new, others are older. If you're like I was, I thought turning on a "channel" was like regular tv and you just watched the shows on it. You actually have to select the shows you want to watch. You get to select series shown on that channel. You can close shows go back to them later and watch exactly from where you stopped the show. You can pause a show, then go back to it easily without having to reload the whole thing. Volume selection must be done on your device. I've mostly watched on tv, I did it with my tv remote. I've had a lot of fun binge watching shows from my childhood. There are shows from current series so you can catch up on what you've missed. I didn't look for older shows from premium cable channels. I can't comment on that.
I don't know if you can record the shows on a personal DVR or even the older VCR. I don't even see why you'd need to. You can select a show to watch at any time.
Hulu Plus loads fairly quickly. The initial process of selecting things seemed kind of random but sorted itself out fairly quickly. There is a search engine in Hulu Plus if you don't see what you want right off. The tv shows I've watched so far loaded very quickly. The commercials were slow to load and there were a limited number of them. Since I was watching a number of shows in a row they got tedious quickly. I didn't see a way to skip past them. I didn't know Hulu Plus had original content, but they had commercials promoting it. I saw one I'd like to go look at. Like cable tv sometimes the shows froze up for no reason. A very few times I had to reload Hulu Plus and then go back to my show. A couple of times there were "service problems" and I had to exit and restart Hulu Plus. Most of the time it cleared up the problems, not always. I just had to try again later. You can list "favorites" and get back to those shows very quickly without going thru the whole selection process over and over. A mistake I initially made.
The quality of the show depends on the quality of the show's original recording quality. Some old tv shows were pretty bad quality. This isn't true of every old show. Older shows were made for the square tvs of yesteryear. These shows are square on the viewing screen.
Hulu Plus promotes current shows and movies. Most had nothing to do with what I was watching. Some were spot on. I don't watch most popular network tv and shows from them were being recommended every time I logged on. I was watching Dark Shadows. The Vampire Diaries, Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer were recommended. All are shows that I like. I have Buffy on DVD and plan to rewatch Angel soon on Hulu Plus. I watch The Vampire Diaries weekly. There are shows from my childhood and series I missed that I want to go back and watch.
Why would you include an app for a product that restricts access in Canada? And then there is absolutely no indication that I wasted my time downloading this service until I tried to sign up and activate the service... then, nothing! You need to stop posting apps that are geographically restricted! This sucks!!
