Funeral held for Holby star

The funeral of Holby City actress Laura Sadler, who died last month after a 40ft fall from a balcony, was held today.

Friends, family and co-stars of the 22-year-old attended the service at a church near her home town of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

The service was private at the request of Miss Sadler's family and was to be followed by a cremation at Amersham Crematorium.

It is understood that the BBC's head of drama series, Mal Young, was to lead the tributes to the actress, who played nurse Sandy Harper in the popular series.

Her Holby City co-star Hugh Quarshie, who plays surgeon Ric Griffin, was to read a poem and her family asked that one of her favourite songs, Angels by Robbie Williams, be played during the emotional service.

The actress, who starred in Grange Hill as a child, died on June 19, four days after she suffered massive head injuries in the fall from the balcony of a flat in Holland Park, west London.

The flat belonged to her on and off-screen boyfriend George Calil, who was arrested in connection with the accident.

Scotland Yard said later that the death was not being treated as suspicious and that Mr Calil, 30, would not face charges.

An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned at Fulham Coroner's Court.

A memorial service is being planned for Miss Sadler, who died after her life support machine was switched off at Charing Cross Hospital.
