What travellers are saying
- IDA G.3 contributionsMuseum is in open area - is an open air Museum. In almost every house is a cat - to keep the area clear or mices. Very nice place to visit !Written 20 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GGFC54Scunthorpe, UK65 contributionsThis is an excellent experience because it is a very well preserved part of European history. The tour lasts about 45 minutes and is very informative about the use of the palace and the former dictator and his family. Photos are allowed and there is a small souvenir shop and cafe.Written 20 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - George TsiliopoulosKozani, Greece5 contributionsThe exhibits were awesome with plenty of information also in English. The stuff there was very kind and helpful. Would recommend it if visiting with children. One complaint I have is for the souvenir shop, which is small and more addressed to kids. - Thomas KCopenhagen, Denmark809 contributionsMuseum has 2 main collections, the Romanian art in 1 wing and the rest of Europe in another wing of the museum. Entry is about 8€ and more if they also have special show of art. The museum have an important collection of old masters including Rubens, Rembrandt, El Greco and Brueghel. They have a small museum shop.Written 5 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GGFC54Scunthorpe, UK65 contributionsA relatively undervalued experience that needs to be reserved. It is next to the Presidential Palace and close to the Polytehnic metro station. There is a security search and a passport or accredited ID must be handed in. The guided tour in English was delivered by a well informed and very clear guide. It is a palace with a beautiful interior and the visit was very worth while. The tour lasts about an hour. No photos allowed outside. Mobile phone camera allowed for free inside. Photo permit must be paid for if one used a camera other than a mobile phone. Lots of relevant information made it an interesting experience.Written 20 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alina El.East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece23 contributionsUnique experience! You can see a lot of vintage items from the old era and learn some historical information about how the nation was influenced by the French and Turkish people. The man that gave us a mini 2 minute tour was also friendly and polite.Written 3 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you can, take a Romanian friend or a guide with you when visiting, so you will better understand what you are seeing. All the objects have a reason they are there, but it's not obvious. Like the "bag of bags" :D We were expecting a very small museum but it is very well structured, split into 7 parts, on two floors. We found many interesting things to look at, the Bruce Lee documentary included, and many memories found us. Great initiative! (PS: Thank you for letting us interact with objects and take pictures)Written 16 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Emil CSouthern Romania, Romania14 contributionsFilled with exceptional Romanian art: an entire wall of Grigorescu, entire rooms of Iser, dozens of Tonitza, Ciucurencu but no marketing idea behind. One could learn a lot about Romanian painters if provided with the necessary guidance: locals and foreigners. The paintings are put in an order known probably only to the art critics with no highlights, no special guidance. You are not offered an audio guide and the walk around is a bit strange to say the least. Anyway, it is a place to visit if you want to spend 2 quality hours. And like most interesting things in Bucharest, is very poorly marketed and lies in the open as a hidden gem.Written 2 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Fane BabanulRishon Lezion, Israel1,963 contributionsThe museum highlist is the thesaurus, which contains many gold objects found on Romania's territory.
Most of them originate from tribes that passed over the Romanian territory after the Roman Empire withdrawal from Dacia, approx, 280 AC.
Contemporary pieces owned by the Romanian kings are less interesting.
One level is dedicated to an extensive copy of Trajan's Column in Rome, that glorifies the emperor's conquest of Dacia, the antique kingdom that precedes Romania.
All other permanent expos are long-term closed for maintenance.Written 21 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Born in the small village of Liveni, Enescu was a child prodigy and admitted to study at age seven (!) to the Vienna Conservatory. He gave a private concert for Emperor Franz Joseph at age ten, and shuttled between Paris and Romania until the end of WW2, when he settled in the former. His compositions include operas, symphonies, chamber music, and works written exclusively for piano. A museum dedicated to his work is located in the turn-of-the-century art nouveau Cantacuzino Palace. It is small (two rooms) but contains a number of personal artifacts and tells the story of his life in roughly chronological order. His first violin, hand-written manuscripts, and various concert programs share space with medals presented from around the world and, somewhat oddly, a molding of his hands. I spent just under an hour here on my last day in Bucharest.
In summary, this was a small, traditional museum about a very important historical figure. I had only peripherally heard of Enescu before traveling to Romania but learned far more from him while there, largely due to this collection. A groundbreaking gallery with electronic exhibits and walk-through experiences? Hardly. A decent, easy to understand collection of authentic artifacts that tells a linear story and leaves one realizing how impressive this musician was? Yes. I’d give it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Worth a trip for people with the interest.Written 13 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. First, we were unsure whether a 90 minutes visit would be a good idea for our youngest kid or whether he would be bored after 15 minutes. Our guide, Alex, managed to keep the kids attention while at the same time, answering all our questions. At the end, we stayed and spent 2 full hours at Ferestroika! Well done! I can clearly recommend a visit to everyone interested in recent Romanian history.Written 3 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The garden has also beautiful Romanian sculpture.
