How to set up Arlo Cameras - Arlo Secure 4.0

This article applies to Arlo Ultra, Arlo Ultra 2, Arlo Pro 3, Arlo Pro 4, Arlo Pro 5S, and Arlo Essential Wire-Free series cameras. To connect and install other Arlo devices, visit the links under: Set up other Arlo devices

An Arlo SmartHub or Base Station is required for Arlo Pro 3, Arlo Ultra, and Arlo Ultra 2 cameras. To check compatibility, visit: Arlo SmartHub and Base Station Compatibility

An Arlo SmartHub or Base Station is optional for Arlo Pro 4, Pro 5S, and Arlo Essential Wire-Free series cameras. For more information, visit: What are the benefits of using an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station?

Arlo SecureLink is a technology that uses the sub-GHz wireless communication to communicate between Arlo devices. The Arlo Security Keypad Sensor Hub uses Arlo SecureLink to talk with devices such as the Arlo All-in-One Sensor and the Arlo Pro 5S Camera. To set up an Arlo camera with an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station:

Note: Arlo Ultra, Arlo Ultra 2, and Arlo Pro 3 must use an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station.

  1. Launch the Arlo Secure App.
  2. Tap Devices.
    Note: Make sure the correct Location where you want to add the camera is selected. For more information, visit: How do I switch my Location in the Arlo Secure App?
  3. Tap .
  4. Tap Cameras.
  5. Tap Ultra, Pro, or Essential.
  6. Select your camera.
  7. Select an Arlo SmartHub or Arlo Base Station.
    Note: If an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station is not installed, tap Add New SmartHub.
    Plug the Ethernet Cable into your Arlo SmartHub or Base Station and tap Continue.
    Plug the AC adapter into the wall outlet, make sure the LEDs on the Arlo SmartHub or Base Station turn on, and tap Continue.
    If you have trouble connecting the SmartHub or Base Station, visit: Arlo can't discover my SmartHub or Base Station during installation; what do I do?
  8. Insert the battery into the camera, and tap Continue.
    Arlo will begin looking for your camera.
    Make sure the camera is within 3 to 6 feet of your Arlo SmartHub or Base Station during the setup process.
    Avoid placing the camera within close proximity to other Wi-Fi devices to avoid signal interference during the setup process.
    If the search is taking too long, tap Manually Pair Device.
    Press the Sync button on the camera and tap Continue.
  9. Name your Arlo camera and tap Continue.
  10. Position your Arlo camera and tap Continue.
  11. Tap Finish.
    Note: Your camera will be added to Arm Away mode after installation where Motion Detection, Recording, Variable Length recording is enabled. For more information, visit About Arlo Routines, Modes, Rules, and Automations

To set up Arlo Pro 4, Arlo Pro 5S, or Arlo Essential wire-free camera directly to your Wi-Fi router:

  1. Launch the Arlo Secure App.
  2. Tap Devices.
  3. Tap .
  4. Tap Pro or Essential.
  5. Select your camera.
  6. Select Connect without SmartHub and tap Continue.
  7. Check your mobile device settings to ensure you are connected to a 2.4 GHz network.
    Note: Arlo Pro 5S cameras work with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands after installation is complete on 2.4 GHz. For more information, visit: How does the Arlo Pro 5S Camera use 5GHz Wi-Fi networks?
  8. Return to the Arlo Secure App and tap Continue.
  9. Enter your Wi-Fi SSID (Network Name) and Password.
  10. Tap Continue.
  11. For Arlo Essential wire-free cameras:
    Press and hold the Sync button on the bottom of the camera for two seconds.
  12. For Arlo Pro 4 and Arlo Pro 5S:
    Insert the battery into the camera and tap Continue.
    When the LED on the front of the camera is blinking blue, tap Continue.
    If the LED is not blinking blue, tap LED is not blinking blue.
    Press and hold the Sync button on the inside of the camera and tap Continue.
    When the LED begins blinking blue, tap Continue.
  13. Hold the QR code about four to six inches in front of your Arlo camera.
  14. When you hear a chime, tap Continue.
    Note: If you are having trouble, visit: My Arlo camera will not scan the QR code during setup
  15. Arlo will begin looking for your camera.
    Make sure the camera is within 3 to 6 feet of your Wi-Fi router during the setup process.
    Avoid placing the camera within close proximity to other Wi-Fi devices to avoid signal interference during the setup process.
  16. Name your Arlo camera and tap Continue.
  17. Position your Arlo camera and tap Continue.
  18. Tap Finish.
