As of August 29, 2011, these steps will allow you to restore your Blackberry Curve 8530 to Factory Settings. This will reset your Blackberry device to the same state it was in when you removed it from the box. 1. Click the Blackberry Menu button to the immediate left of the touch pad below the screen. 2. Look for and click the Options icon which looks like a wrench. 3. Click on "Security Options" 4. Click "Security Wipe" You will now need to select the data you would like deleted from your Blackberry. For a full wipe to restore factory settings, do the following: 5. Place a check mark beside "Emails, Contacts, Etc." (Be sure you have first backed up ALL data as this will remove any of the above items and you will not be able to restore them without a backup!) 6. Put a checkmark beside "User Installed Applications" 7. It is not advised to put a checkmark beside "Media Card" if you have one inserted in your Blackberry unless you want to completely wipe everything from your SD Memory Card. I always remove my SD Card from my Blackberry to ensure it is not accidentally erased during this procedure. 8. Type the word "blackberry" (without the quotation marks) in the bar at the bottom. 9. Click the "Wipe" button. 10. You will get a popup that tells you that the device is "Erasing Information. WARNING: Do NOT pull the battery out until erasing is complete!" Once this process has completed, your Blackberry should be at its factory default settings and you can then proceed to restore any data such as address books, ringtones, applications, photos, music, etc. onto your Blackberry smartphone. Remember that you will have to set up any e-mail accounts that you have before you`ll be able to receive email on your Blackberry again.

You can do the following steps for restoring factory setting
.On the main Home Screen, select Menu
then Select Settings, Scroll to and select Privacy, Scroll to and select Privacy, Select Factory Data Reset, Select Reset Phone
LAst Enter the password if prompted, then confirm by selecting Erase Everything or you can also can reset your phone by entering the code *2767*3855#. All settings will then reset to factory default settings.

A hard reset procedure will do that for your. But be sure you are still familiar with the default security code on your phone 12345 is that this process will be successful..

to do the hard reset follow this :
at Standby Screen type-in => *#7370#
It will ask for “Restore all phone settings-phone will restart….”
Then it asks for security code enter factory default => 12345.

First u assign ur right or left short key to password lock , then go to options >password, enable and set ur password and save it. now go to home screen and press ur short cut key either right or left one which were u have set, ur phone will get locked.. now press the optical pad it will ask for the password to unlock ur phone...type the password and ur phone will get unlocked.

I am trying to do the "factory reset" and I have gone to Options, Security Options....but there is nothing called "general settings"...there is several things listed but not that. There is something called "security wipe", however it seems to only be asking about deleting email, etc. Any ideas?

I`ve was fooling with the desktop backlight icon when the screen blacked out.. how to reset? I can shut down (guessing) and then turn on again.. but, once the password is accepted.. it goes back to the blackut screen.

You can either use a paper lip end and inset into side of phone to reset to factory default or hold the top button and round bottom button on screen simultaneously until the screen shuts off. That will reboot.

Yes it will. but you can save your contacts to your sd card or to your backup app. then reset to factory defaults. this will save all your contacts or anything else you want to keep after reset.
