This gallery is just amazing! We were window shopping in the French Quarter when we stumbled upon Craig Tracy's Gallery. I am aware of the show Skin Wars but strangely (I'm a reality show buff), it's not one that it's in my current round-up of tv watching. However, Craig Tracy was one of the tattoo artists on the show and after seeing his artwork, it's clear to see why.
Every piece in the gallery was a trick on the eyes as it was either a nature scene, an animal or some other cool item but there were always human bodies in each piece, as well. Sometimes you'd see the person first, sometimes the scene first. It was fun looking at every single piece. No editing, we were told!
Which brings me to the great staff. Fabulously friendly, very informative and no pressure at all to buy but ready to help in that instance.
Loved the artwork in the gallery and would love to purchase pieces in the future!Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 20Oh no 0 - Sar A.Philadelphia, PA133384311414Jun 11, 2016
Save this gallery to your hit list ( aka bookmark ), and you'll never set foot in any contemporary art gallery again.
Well, maybe for regular artwork and traditional collectible.
I have visited New Orleans three times in the past two years, and I have paid a visit to this gallery each time. Craig Tracy's work is very impressive. Each and every piece in the gallery is a photo of creative real human body-painting.
Next time I visit Craig Tracy's gallery, maybe I'll buy my first body painted piece of art.

The art in this gallery is very original. Artist Graig Tracy paints directly on people's bodies transforming them into all kinds of things from animals to landscapes. The gallery is beautiful, clean, colorful, modern, and interesting. Super cool.

The art work here is phenomenal and definitely a must see. I was soaking up the last hours of my trip today and staggered upon this gallery. I don't think that I have the words to do it justice, this is something that you must see for yourself. A full gallery of photographs of art on human bodies.
I would love to commission a piece of my own. I inquired about it, however, I am not necessarily pleased with the response that I received. I feel as though I may have been dismissed as...I don't know...someone not seriously willing or able to do a commissioned piece. The guy (not the Artist) just kept going on and on about the prints for sale, how they aren't about the people (the volunteers) in them and how the Artist rarely does commissions. Hmmm. What could be more lovely than owning a piece that has special meaning for the owner? Never mind the fact that while he is saying these (nonsense) things to me, a customer was there waiting to get started with her commissioned piece. Again, hmmm.
The sheer beauty of the work is worth the visit, this is why I give it a 4. The artwork itself deserves a 10. However, I didn't leave with a warm fuzzy feeling about following up on what I would really want to purchase based on this interaction. That is why I didn't give it a 5.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Bryan C.San Francisco, CA11041Mar 11, 2018
Craig is an incredibly talented artist. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to visit Craig and see his studio and gallery. I was amazed to learn how supportive of his fellow artists and creatives that he is.
Conversation alone with him is top notch. He knows his stuff and he questions anyone who may seem to boastful. I think he likes to keep himself and others humble, which I think is a noble goal. With all the successes he has had, he could have adopted a very different character, but he chooses to try and help others with his successes and lessons as well. I respect this man and his work for many reasons. We are blessed to have him as part of the body painting community.
His work is at the top of it's game.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 20, 2014Updated review
First time I wandered into this gallery, I just couldn't help but laugh. Mostly because the little boy I grew up with has made good! Love his aesthetic and his creativity. His path to this gallery has been quite twisty & turny but that all influences his art.
He sells both original works, prints, limited editions and does commissions. His trompe l'oeil style is fascinating and is the most beautiful camouflage you've ever seen.
The gallery space is lovely and there are usually videos playing that demonstrate his process.
Definitely a must stop while you're wandering the quarter.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Jan 22, 2010Previous reviewPainted Alive specializes in paintings on skin. Don't be scared, no people or animals were flayed in the name of art. The pieces that are for sale are photographs of the original artwork that was painted directly onto human flesh. Some pieces celebrate the human form, where others are more in a trump d'oeil style so that you have to hunt to realize that you're actually looking at a person. The gallery covers several body painting artists, but the majority of pieces are by the owner Craig Tracy. (My disclaimer for the day - Craig & I grew up together.)

Nude and not so nude photographic prints with a twist.
Craig Tracey takes his art from the canvas to the skin, using the folds and contours of his subjects to create subtle landscapes and take imaginary leaps in this exotic, erotic body painting gallery.
Sunsets, leopards, floral scenes- a gamut of colors and elements to surprise and titilate. Take some body art home for the right discriminating consumer.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Aisha R.Denver, CO242310971Jul 11, 2014
We were wandering through the French Quarter after having a delicious lunch and we stumbled upon this gallery. I wasn't familiar with Craig Tracy before we came in here, but he's an artist I won't soon forget. His bodyart pieces are BREATHTAKING. He is a true artist. There are several videos playing that show the process he completes to put a piece together.
The art pieces are priced anywhere from about $85 print copy to $23,000 for a signed original.
Beautiful artwork. Simply beautiful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 14, 2013
Craig is a brilliant artist, and I had been watching his work for a few years. On this last trip to New Orleans, I had a chance to talk with him and his brother, Phil, at the gallery. Both are incredibly nice guys, Craig's work is even better in person, and he's a lovely to just hang out and talk to about his work. And Phil is thoughtful and thorough on explaining options on the work and pricing.
I bought a piece of artwork there, and I can't wait to see it on the wall.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
