20m agoThe Ravens have signed Bateman to a contract extension that keeps the wide receiver with the team through the 2026 season.
The move to reach a new deal with Bateman arrives as the Ravens had a looming decision whether to exercise the 2021 first-rounder's fifth-year option, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. During the 2023 regular season, the 24 year-old caught 32 of his 56 targets for 367 yards and a TD in 16 games, but according to coach John Harbaugh, Bateman is a candidate to "take a big step" forward in 2024, while working in a Baltimore pass-catching corps that also features wideout Zay Flowers and tight end Mark Andrews.

28m agoHighsmith and the Steelers agreed Wednesday to restructure his contract and create roughly $7 million in cap space, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Highsmith is likely converting a portion of his base salary into a signing bonus, with Rapaport calling the move a "simple" restructure. The 2020 third-round pick notched a solid 7.0 sacks across 17 regular-season appearances in 2023, a far cry from his career-high 14.5 sacks in 2022, but he remains an integral part of Pittsburgh's defense for the foreseeable future.

1h agoThe Bengals have elected to pick up Chase's fifth-year contract option.
With the expected move, Chase will remain under contract with Cincinnati through the 2025 campaign. This past season, the 2021 first-rounder recorded a career-high 100 catches (on 145 targets) for 1,216 yards and seven TDs in 16 regular-season games. The 24-year-old is thus poised to remain QB Joe Burrow's top pass-catching option for the next couple of years, and in that context Chase remains a top tier fantasy option at the wide receiver position.

2h agoHoward (foot) was fully cleared for football activities earlier this month, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.
This news, which was relayed by Howard's doctor in a letter, should help pave the way for the free agent cornerback, who dealt with a foot issue late last season, to catch on with another team. Prior to missing Miami's last two contests (Week 18 and the team's wild-card loss to Kansas City), Howard -- a four-time Pro Bowler -- had recorded 45 tackles and an interception in 13 games.

Amon-Ra St. Brown DET WRLions' Amon-Ra St. Brown: Signing massive extension
2h agoSt. Brown and the Lions reached agreement Tuesday on a four-year extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
The initial report has it as a $120 million deal, including $77 million guaranteed. If those numbers hold up when more details come out, St. Brown will tie Tyreek Hill's WR record for average annual value ($30 million) and have the stand-alone record for money guaranteed. Of course, he probably won't hold those records for long, as the list of star WRs nearing the end of their rookie contracts includes Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase. In any case, St. Brown has improved his receiving volume and fantasy production with each passing season in the NFL, and he should have another big year in 2024 while catching passes from QB Jared Goff in an offense that will be coordinated by Ben Johnson for at least one more season.

4h agoThe Steelers aren't expected to pick up the fifth-year option on Fields' rookie contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
It perhaps goes without saying, given that Fields is coming in as the second QB on the depth chart and would be guaranteed around $25.66 million in 2025 if the Steelers were to pick up his option before the May 2 deadline. While the team may have interest in keeping him around beyond the upcoming season, it won't be at that price before he's ever put on a Steelers uniform. Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports that fellow offseason acquisition Russell Wilson will enter offseason workouts in "pole position" at quarterback, with Fields then getting a chance to compete at some point in the future, according to coach Mike Tomlin. Fields is on track to be a free agent next spring, and his playing time between now and then seems largely dependent on Wilson struggling.

3m agoMartinez (back) is on track to be added to the Mets' roster ahead of Friday's game versus the Cardinals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Martinez is slated to play what is expected to be a final game with Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. As long as he comes out of it with no issues, he'll be in the designated hitter spot for his Mets debut Friday. Martinez went to the minors to knock off some rust after signing late and had to pause things briefly due to a minor back problem, but he's healthy now and is nearing his season debut.

Sano will make his seventh straight start Wednesday, including his fourth in a row at the hot corner. With Anthony Rendon () on the injured list, Sano looks as though he'll handle an everyday role at third base, at least while he continues to hold his own at the plate. Though Sano hasn't provided much in the way of counting stats through his first 19 games of the season (one home run, eight runs and five RBI), he's hitting .281 and getting on base at a .373 clip.

19m agoAdell will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
He'll be awarded a third consecutive start after going 3-for-6 with a home run, a double, two RBI and an additional run scored over the past two games, while also reaching base twice after being hit by pitches. Since he first broke into the big leagues in 2020, Adell has struggled to have much staying power in the majors while maintaining high strikeout rates, but he's shown some progression on that front so far this season. Through 39 plate appearances, Adell has struck out just eight times (20.5 percent).

23m agoBarger is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Wednesday's game in Kansas City, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Kevin Kiermaier exited Tuesday's game with hip flexor discomfort and could be headed to the injured list to open up room on the 26-man active roster for Barger. The 24-year-old has slashed .314/.435/.586 with three home runs and a 15:14 K:BB over 19 games with Buffalo this season. He's played right field and third base for Buffalo this season and would be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game.

Drury missed three games last week with a hamstring injury before returning to play three straight contests over the weekend. However, he's now been absent from the lineup for all three games of the series against Baltimore, so it's fair to wonder whether the hamstring injury could be lingering or if he's simply being phased out amid his slow start to the season. Drury has struggled to a .547 OPS over 73 plate appearances thus far.

1h agoThe Nationals recalled Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.
Lipscomb is taking the roster spot vacated by outfielder Lane Thomas (knee), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The rookie posted a .563 OPS with one home run and four stolen bases over 14 games with the Nationals earlier this month and could get some reps at third base if the club wants to use Senzel in the outfield as a fill-in for Thomas.

28m agoAntetokounmpo (calf) has started doing stationary jump shooting but still isn't running or cutting as of Wednesday, Shams Charania reported on FanDuel's Run It Back.
Damian Lillard had another stellar first-half performance in Game 2 but couldn't keep the Bucks close in the second half as the Pacers evened the series. Antetokounmpo's status for Game 3 on Friday likely won't be known until Thursday afternoon, but Charania suggests Milwaukee should be preparing to play without Antetokounmpo again. The MVP candidate has missed five straight games dating back to the regular season and hasn't played since April 9. However, if Antetokounmpo gets the green light, it's safe to expect he'll handle as many minutes as necessary in an attempt to keep the Bucks' postseason hopes alive.

Jovic is still expected to suit up despite being a late addition to the injury report. He posted 10 points, six rebounds and one block in 26 minutes during the 114-94 Game 1 loss and has started 29 straight appearances dating back to the regular season.

Wade hasn't suited up since March 8 due to a right knee sprain, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return. However, the team has been evaluating him on a game-by-game basis, and his next chance to suit up will be in Saturday's Game 4.

Coach Jamahl Mosley said that Suggs is feeling better, and previous reports have indicated that the guard is expected to play in Game 3 Thursday against the Cavaliers. Fantasy managers can expect more clarity when Orlando releases their official injury report Wednesday evening.

2h agoNets general manager Sean Marks said Wednesday that "all signs point to" Simmons (back) being available to start next season's training camp, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.
Simmons underwent a successful microscopic partial discectomy in mid-March to alleviate the nerve impingement in his lower back, marking yet another injury-related setback for the 2017 No. 1 overall pick. The 27-year-old has played in only 57 games across the last three seasons, but when available, he has shown he can still be an active defender and excellent playmaker. Simmons has one more year remaining on his current contract, a five-year extension he signed with Philadelphia in 2019.

2h agoCoach Nick Nurse said Melton (back) practiced Wednesday and is on track to suit up for Thursday's Game 3 against the Knicks, but the shooting guard will likely still be listed as questionable on the official injury report, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
Melton has appeared in only five games since Jan. 12 and last suited up April 12, so even if he gets the green light, he'll presumably be eased into action. The sixth-year wing made only 38 regular-season appearances and averaged 11.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 26.9 minutes per game.

Talbot will seek revenge after allowing six goals on 44 shots en route to a 7-4 loss to the Oilers on Monday. He had a 27-20-6 record, 2.50 GAA and .913 save percentage in 54 regular-season appearances. Edmonton, which ranked fourth offensively with 3.56 goals per contest during the 2023-24 campaign, will continue to be a challenging opponent for the veteran goaltender.

18m agoMyers was dealing with the flu, which caused him to miss Game 2 against the Predators on Tuesday, Thomas Drance of The Athletic reports.
Myers had been rolling offensively prior to falling ill, recording five points in his last six games, including a short-handed goal. Without Myers in the lineup, Noah Juulsen stepped onto the blue line and likely will continue to fill in for Myers if he remains unavailable for Game 3 on Friday.

Hague was officially classified as day-to-day, so he could still be an option for Game 3 back in Dallas. In his stead, Alec Martinez will return to action after sitting out the previous contest as a healthy scratch.

Skinner allowed four goals on 37 shots versus LA on Monday, but he got plenty of goal support en route to a 7-4 victory. He's typically done better against the Kings, posting a 4-1-0 record, 2.39 GAA and .926 save percentage over five contests this year, including four regular-season outings. The Kings also left something to be desired offensively during the 2023-24 campaign, finishing in a tie for 16th offensively with 3.10 goals per contest.
