More than you might think. It is well-known that Robert Pattinson was paid a large sum of money to play the werewolf in the Hollywood blockbuster Twilight. But how much did he actually get paid? Let’s take a look.

The Royal Wedding And The Huge Payday

Twilight was released in August 2012 to mostly positive reviews and box office success. It was the highest-grossing film of the year at the worldwide box office and went on to become one of the biggest and most popular Hollywood fantasy franchises. In North America, it was the second-highest-grossing movie of all time (behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2) and in the U.K., it was the highest-grossing movie of all time according to Box Office Mojo.

What’s more is that the movie’s critical and commercial success carried over to Europe, where it became one of the biggest hits of all time. In Germany, for example, it was the third-highest-grossing film of all time and in the U.K., it was the highest-grossing movie of all time. It also did fairly well in Asia, where it was the eighth-highest-grossing film of all time. Overall, the film’s international gross was $2.9 billion.

As it happened, the year before Twilight had been a big year for the British royal family. Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, had just given birth to the future King George in April and Prince Harry had wed actress Meghan Markle in May. This was the beginning of what would become known as the “bromance royal wedding.”

Pattinson’s Massive Paydays

Pattinson landed one of the most challenging and lucrative acting roles of the year and he wasn’t about to let the opportunity pass him by. It was a role that would span two movies, the first of which was released in December 2012 and the second in December 2013. In total, he would receive a massive $30 million to $35 million paycheck for playing the part of Edward Cullen in Twilight.

This was a record-breaking payday for Pattinson, who had previously only been paid about $2.7 million for his work in Cosmo Warrior. His previous movie earnings, before Twilight, ranged from moderate (The Bourne Identity) to modest (The Dark Knight Rises). This made him one of the highest-paid actors of the year and he was only 28 years old.

And it wasn’t just Twilight. Pattinson would also cash in while the movie was still in theaters. In April 2013, he signed on to play the male lead in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, which was released in December of that year. This also turned out to be a very lucrative venture. Cosmopolis was a box office hit and grossed $37.6 million in North America and $13.4 million in other countries, bringing his lifetime earnings from acting to $60 million. It was one of the highest-grossing movies of the year worldwide and is currently the 13th highest-grossing movie of all time. In other words, it was a home run both commercially and critically.

How Much Does Pattinson Make Per Season?

It’s not just about the money. It’s about the perks that come with the money. Pattinson signed on to star in a popular British TV series entitled Outlander, which takes place in a post-World War II world and follows the journey of a recovering Nazi war criminal as he attempts to regain his English country home. The show is currently in its second season and airs on Starz, which is an international network that is available in North America.

While Outlander doesn’t typically air in the U.S., it is available for streaming on Netflix. If you’re an Outlander fan, then you can enjoy the first season for free on Netflix.

As exciting as Outlander is, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Pattinson’s other current gig is that of a vampire hunter in the hit Netflix series, The Vampire Diaries. In this role, he fights back against the monsters that prey on humans and even other monsters. Like most Netflix shows, the whole thing is based on a popular book series, albeit with a few tweaks and turns to keep things interesting.

Pattinson’s Contract

While his contract for playing Edward Cullen in Twilight was pretty standard—it had a two-movie option with a seven-figure bonus in the second—it was Pattinson’s role in Cosmopolis that would cause controversy.

Specifically, the actor was paid $750,000 for the first movie and $1.5 million for the second. The first movie came out in December 2012 and the second in December 2013. But Pattinson didn’t see the second one until months afterward, because of a contract dispute. As it turned out, Pattinson wouldn’t have to wait too long to start filming the third installment. The script was written during the months leading up to the second movie and production began in the fall of 2014. This installment, which will introduce viewers to a whole new generation of werewolves, will be released in April 2021.

Pattinson’s contract for playing the role of Sherlock Holmes in the upcoming CBS All Access Holmes mashup, which will bring together the best of both worlds, is also available for streaming on YouTube and Netflix. This will be the actor’s first major role in a television series since Breaking Bad, which aired from 2008 to 2013. The role will be a departure from his usual style, as Holmes, the great detective, was originally created by Arthur C Clarke in 1896 and was most famous for his investigations into the Baker Street Brigade. This is one of the most exciting roles that Pattinson will ever play, since it will give him the opportunity to truly stretch his acting muscles, as well as interact with some of the most acclaimed writers and producers in the industry.
