A lot of popular YouTubers who started out 10+ years ago always say "I started youtube before making money from it was even a possibility" or something like that, so my question is when did people start making money from YouTube? when did youtube start paying people?
Or was it possible to make money from youtube as early as 2008/2009?

but not as much as they're paying now I assume?
I wouldn't know how much they were paying then but there are lots of variables that determine how much you get paid now. Example, your video could make $100 for 100k views but someone in a different niche could make $1000 for the same 100k views.
