Not only Americans could produce good movies at that time. But only one event could show you world wide cinematograph — Venice Film Festival. 19 nations participated in the second edition. And the screenings showed not only the first steps of moviemaking in other countries but a big job has been done.

What must you see?

It Happened One Night
Great Clark Gable in nice romantic comedy with elements of road movie and one of the first escape from the own wedding in those genre pictures.

Best Foreign Film

Little Women
I’ve wrote about it already.
Best Foreign Film, Best Actress — Katharine Hepburn(w)

The Invisible Man
One of the best old fantastic movies. And one of the best pictures on Wells novels. They didn’t even mantioned it on the Academy Awards this year, but they gave the chance for the movie in Venice. And it was right because such kind of pictures will be interesting for a long time. And more we have digital technologies more this film becomes attractive for me.

Best Foreign Film, Special Recommendation (w)

What else?

Man of Aran
Few weeks ago I’ve seen the play “The Cripple of Inishmaan” in Ukrainian theatre. It is popular all around the world now. And I was very surprised that old movie was made as a background for the play. The film by itself is worth seeing because of a new style of telling documetary story.

Best Foreign Film (w)

Funny Little Bunnies
It is one of the Silly Symphonies.
Best Animation (w)

Петербургская ночь
Dark Soviet movie on Dostoyevsky novels.

Best Foreign Film

I decided to count watched movies. And the score is — 31 films!
