The Christmas Tea is one of the best afternoon tea experiences I have had--and that includes the Ritz in London and the Peninsula in Hong Kong. The "Twelve Days of Christmas Tea" was exquisite, especially the gorgeous white chocolate swans and other goodies. The serving...was ample, and we were given a box for leftovers. The harp music was a lovely bonus to a festive, delicious afternoon tea experience. I should note that I had a little difficulty making a reservation because my daughter is vegan. I finally had great assistance from someone who booked her for fruit and tea at a reduced rate. We were delighted when our server appeared with delicious vegan desserts for her to enjoy. A very fun holiday experience!More

Everyone who worked there was friendly and helpful. There is a decent number of gluten free items on the menu, and staff is knowledgeable about allergens. The food is pretty good as well - best in Williamsburg that i know os.

Excellent food and service. Reminds a lot of the finer eating establishments in Europe. Intimate bar adjoining, but hard to get in at ANY time because it is extremely small. IF you can get a table ( no reservations) it is worth going to. Very...Pricey, but if you want something special it's worth it. Personally I would rather go where I am welcomed, and can get a reservation, Le Yaca is the place!More

I take no pleasure in writing a negative review; however, i hope to save others from the poor experience. Even before we were seated the service was poor. The front desk told us we could be seated, but upon entering the hall there was no...one at the podium to greet us. Then after booking a 5 top (and having it confirmed) we were nearly scolded for having 5 people in our party. It took the staff 20 minutes to set an extra place. Once seated it took more than 30 minutes for us to be served tea. The first round of food had already come and gone before we were offered any beverage. The food was disproportionately sweet, the proportions were too large, not served in a traditional tea manner or tray and overall poorly constructed. As a family who is used to a true English tea, the hotel’s food, staff and experience didn’t come close. The price point is far too high for the actual service or quality of product. You’d be better off buying some pastries and sitting down at a tea shop.More

The Regency Room isn't open every day but when it is, it's worth the trip, even from more than 400 miles away. The Regency Room was open for Thanksgiving and Grandma would have been jealous indeed. It was even worth the trip up I-95 to...Washington on the Sunday after the holiday. When the opportunity presents itself next, it will be a strong consideration.More

As a local resident, we've heard about all the changes of personnel & menu. But we've had good (& expensive) food & wine here over the years. So, thought this would be a good locale to entertain friends & family from Richmond. BIG mistake! Start...with the positives: Nice locale & well maintained grounds. That's it...Negatives: HORRIBLE service. Took 1/2 hour to find wine. First 2 attempts were unsuccessful. Even ordered by their "wine number" off menu. $24 wagyu hamburger incl. truffle fries. Not sure there was $5 of truffle oil on fries. Have had better burgers at Hardees!! Took 1 hr. to get 3 burgers, 1 shrimp dish, and 1 pot pie. Don't mind paying premium price IF THEY DELIVER premium product! Not the case here...Server tried to overcompensate for slow evening by upselling dessert. Finally, ADDING INSULT TO INJURY, they automatically charged a 20% gratuity for a party of five! WOW - is this the only way they could compensate servers?? Bad move on their part if they expect to attract local residents. What happened to Phillippe, the past GM? What happened to servers that knew the wine list? What happened to paying premium service FOR PREMIUM PRICE?!?! Thankfully, this embarrassing evening for our out-of-town guests prevented larger mistake of booking corporate Christmas event here in December...More

The room was very well appointed and the Tea accoutrements were quite delicious, however this is my first time attending a High Tea that I experienced a Tea Bag took precedence over using a fine loose tea. The Harney's brand was served, which is a...good tea and I do know they also sell a very good loose teas. For a tea lover this is like comparing a fine wine with Thunderbird. NEVER do that!! If you love tea, ask for loose tea, otherwise don't bother. High Tea is an expensive but lovely experience. You are paying for the best Tea available, delicious little sandwiches, scones/tea biscuits and sweets. You are also paying for the ambiance. A Royal High Tea is ONLY served with the best of loose teas (in my opinion). I won't go back unless the tea lives up to the title.More

We ate breakfast twice in what is now called the Goodwin Room (apparently there have been some name changes, so I’m not sure what it used to be) while we were guests at the Inn. The surroundings were lovely, the service was excellent, and the...food was good, but the prices were ridiculous. A breakfast with an order of fruit, French toast, and a plain omelette with 2 coffees and one juice came to more than $70. Breakfast is the least expensive meal for a restaurant to prepare—there’s little wasted food and the ingredients are not costly. Of course there’s overhead etc., but it felt as if these prices bordered on gouging the clientele. One always has a choice, but having a reasonable breakfast where you stay is something that these days is common—the popularity of B&Bs attests to that. Given the cost of staying at the Inn, I would think that all the profit doesn’t need to be made from breakfasts!More

I made a reservation months in advance for a party of 14 for my daughters wedding. I called several times to be sure everything was going to go smoothly. I asked how long the band would play and was assured they would not stop until...we finished dinner. I asked for the band to announce the new bride and groom and again was assured this was no problem. I let them know we were bringing our own cake and they said they would charge a plate fee. Fair enough. When we arrived and asked for the band to announce the new bride and groom they said the band refused. Why, I asked. They told me it was not a problem. They asked again and again the band refused. In the meantime, my daughter and her new husband are getting embarrassed and it becomes uncomfortable. When we arrive at our table we find they have put us at separate tables of 7. This was a small wedding party and they never mentioned setting us up like that. It took several attempts and talking to many people before we were allowed to push the tables together! then the band stopped playing while we were still eating dinner after already breaking for what seemed like 10 minutes every 30 minutes. Finally, the food was over-priced, not good, and the hostess was rude. The only thing they kept their word on was the fact they did in fact charge us a plating fee for bringing our own cake! I suggest celebrating anywhere else but hereMore

We look forward to this as a special event each year. Unfortunately, this was very disappointing for the price and what was provided. We brought our entire family and had bragged about how cool the selections were and The high quality of the food —...a unique experience! It was anything about that — We were embarrassed. The person on the omelette station said this was the first time that he had prepared omelettes and it showed. Can you believe that they would have an amateur? They continually ran out of the popular items, to the point that I actually stood by one of the stations until they refilled the food. I had to order eggs Benedict three separate times, the yoke was hard. The chef finally came out and apologized and said this just wasn’t their day. We had two other tables who came to us, and thanked us for standing up and complaining. One couple said that they had been going there for 20 years, that this was absolutely the lowest point they had ever experienced, and would never return (and we agreed). The service was very poor, we had to ask two or three times for refills on coffee. In the past, this was never, ever the case. On our way out, I approached a manager to share my disappointment, it was like talking to a wall.More

Our family of three were at the Regency Room for Valentine's Dinner. It was so bad we left in the middle of the meal to get real food.It began with sluggish service that got increasingly slow as time passed both in terms of the wait...staff and the wine steward. The consomme had a slice of carrot,a slice of potato, and a shred of lettuce with luke warm chicken flavored dishwater for broth. An hour and a half into the experience we got our entres which were cold and served with vegetables tasting like dish water and gray mashed potatoes. We finally gave up at that point because it was the final blow of bad. I complained in detail to Mr. Philippe Brainos the Guest Service Manager but got lip service. At the front desk I complained of the experience and asked for the Manager of the Restaurant to call me. It is almost two weeks later and still no call. The pricing of the dinner had no relationship to what was served let alone the quality of the service and the beyond inferior quality of the food. I will never eat here again and I don't think anyone else should either.More

OK, so you want to spend a fortune to stay in a hotel, then this is the place for you. For the price you pay, you should be treated like a king and queen. The Concierge Staff is very unfriendly, and one woman in particular...should be retired by now. She was clueless to any of our questions and disinterested in us. Also, the food in the dining rooms are so overpriced. Think twice before spending any money at any of the Colonial Wmbg hotels. Overpriced and not worth the hype.More

If you are headed to Williamsburg over Christmas be sure to call early and book a table for high tea. You must call early! It is on the expensive side but well worth the money for what you are given and for the experience! Our...waitress went overboard to serve us and gave us extra special touches as she saw our needs. The food was delicious. Sweet music played in the background. There was a tin of fancy holiday tea as a favor at both of our seats for us to take home. We did dress up a bit to go here and then were able to get beautiful pictures by the Christmas tree in the lobby. Their lobby was so pretty that we sat for awhile before and after tea just to talk and soak in the beauty. We plan to go to Williamsburg again next December and this is the one thing that we will for sure do again. Remember to call early as it fills up quickly!More

Eating dinner at the Regency room was like stepping into a fairytale. The waitstaff was superior. They were unpretentious and extremely knowledgeable. The sommelier recommended a fantastic bottle of wine. mY halibut was divine and the baked apple creme brulee was like biting into a...combination of all the best apple desserts you've ever had in your life. They gave us complimentary glasses of champagne, two beautiful roses and the harpist even played the anniversary waltz for us. It was a night always to be remembered. It is a pricey dinner. Not exactly worth the price but it was a fun evening. I probably won't go back simply because for the cost. I did not leave feeling it was a 4 star experience. The service was excellent and they were highly...attentive. The main course, filet of beef for me, duck for my girlfriend, were both delicious. The entree, Caesar salad was underwhelming. For the price, I had higher expectations but then again it was just a salad. My date had the lobster bisque. It was good but not spectacular. Both not worth the price though. The drink selection was very goodMore

No, not that I'm aware of but best check with them. When they remodeled, they took meals out of the Recency Room and use for special events. For dinner, they replaced with the Rockefeller Room.
