Stayed 2 nights at this property in January, 2020. The hotel is newer, located next to a boat marina on the point, (across the lift bridge), on the bayside in Duluth.
Downloaded the Marriott app and checked in remotely. Through the App use a digital key on your smart phone (via blue-tooth) to unlock your room's door. Front desk check-in was quick and efficient, however, desk agent didn't fully explain hotel amenities. This hotel offers a mini convenience store in the front of the hotel with food items and other items available for purchase. There was also an area off the lobby decorated for the holidays with a fireplace and areas for sitting. The hotel itself is modern, new, and clean. Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, offering a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and large flat screen tv. Bathroom was clean and nice with typical complimentary amenities. Continental breakfast on Saturday AM was limited to cereal, make your own waffles, coffee, juice. Sunday morning included more hot food items.

Pros: clean, comfortable, new hotel with modern amenities, close to Canal Park.
Cons: limited parking. There is an overflow parking lot across the street from the hotel.

Our family stayed one night here on the way up to the North Shore had a great experience! The hotel seemed brand new and everything had a modern, fresh vibe. The bathroom was gorgeous and the shower was spacious with a dispenser for shampoo/conditioner/body wash (so much less wasteful than tiny plastic bottles). The beds were comfy and the TV was gigantic. The view out the room window was not great (a boat storage facility) since we didn’t splurge for a waterfront view, but not a huge issue. The pool was small but clean and pool towels are available; the gym next to the pool looked nice too. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, with a wide variety of choices to suit everyone. Check-in and check-out were both easy with the Marriott Bonvoy app. While the location is not directly in the heart of Canal Park, you could still easily walk over the lift bridge to restaurants, shops, and the Lakewalk. Overall, a wonderful stay in Duluth!

The personnel here cannot be friendlier or more helpful. Every phone call before check-in was politely answered, and while staying there, we noted how helpful the staff was--from giving us a list of open restaurants to agreeing to microwave a breakfast option for us. Rates are higher during the weekend when hot food is served for breakfast, and much lower at other times when no hot food is offered. The rooms are comfortable. The hotel is situated across the bridge from the tourist area and most restaurants so having a car is essential.

Positives about the hotel.
1. Great amenities like a good exercise room and pool area .
2. Room was spacious and comfortable and the bed was above average
3.Breakfast room was spacious.
4. Hotel employees were nice
5. Only about 1/2 mile from Canal Park.
Negatives
1. While it is a waterfront hotel the location was not what I hoped. On one side was an RV park and on another side some kind of boat repair shop. The hotel was more or less placed in the middle of big parking area next to an older tired neighborhood near the aerial bridge. It did have a water view out of the south and west side of the building but it was just kind of a depressing location. It is a safe location but I thought it would be a romantic stay. This area is definitely not romantic.
2. The breakfast ends promptly ( and I mean promptly) at 9am. during the week. I can see keeping breakfast till 9am weekdays 9 months a year but in the summer it should go to 930am or even 10am. 9am is too early for tourists. Also, there is no freshly made oatmeal like a lot of Fairfield's have. The breakfast attendant (who is pleasant but overworked) has to deal with people who were not using the waffle maker correctly . You need to put some directions on the waffle maker or just get rid of it. When that room is full you might have another employee come over and help the nice breakfast attendant for a bit because she seemed overworked. I think it is a bad look when you have a breakfast attendant removing everything at exactly 9am and locking the milk cabinet when you still have a lot of people eating in the breakfast area and milling around the buffet. Maybe you could announce we are closing the buffet and give people a chance to get something before you just start locking everything up while people are still milling about.

Nice new place where we stayed after a holiday party in Superior, WI. Nice rate, about $110, and much cheaper than similar hotels in Superior. Very good hotel breakfast.

Rooms, although fine, were furnished as you might expect a Days Inn. Very cheap Ikea type furniture and very sparse. Take a good look at the photos. Bathroom was beautiful though. Physical hotel was all really nice but almost seemed that when it came time to furnish it they ran out of money. Also getting there takes you on barely passable entrance roads.

Bottom-line: would stay there again if the price remained as reasonable.

As a Titanium Elite Lifetime member, I rarely write reviews for Marriott properties. I know what they are and what they aren’t. But a fairfield purporting to charge me $200 a night had better earn it and this one fails spectacularly.
First upon arrival (at 8pm on a Wednesday) the primary parking lot was full. There was a back parking area which had no lighting and was split into two sides. I chose the only side with parking spots available - next to another car in the pitch black - to find out upon checkin that parking on that side was not allowed. I was told it would “probably be ok” but if I was worried, the only other option was to park across the street in a chain link fenced lot in a sketchy industrial/dock area with absolutely no walkway other than the street to get back to the hotel.
The hotel itself is nice enough. Room was clean. But upon turning on Netflix, I was welcomed by the data of Jodie and her family. You’re welcome Jodie for not filling your kids’ viewing histories with adult content and not sharing your kids’ names here. This is a fundamental requirement to clear this data upon checkout - the screen even states it is done automatically but obviously not.
Also be aware there is nothing around this area. It’s along the water, views of lots of boats (mostly in dry dock at this time of the year) but no restaurants or convenience stores other than the shop in the hotel for refreshments.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We sincerely apologize that you did not have a good experience during your stay with us, we do have a very unique property that is connected to a marina and RV park, we are so sorry that you had difficulty parking when you travelled so far to get here late at night. Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and we sincerely apologize for falling short of meeting your expectations. We appreciate you letting us know about the Netflix issue as that data is supposed to be clearing when people check out of the hotel. I will need to call our entertainment company to make sure this glitch gets fixed. Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us during these unusual times.

This is a nice hotel depending on your priorities. We booked for seven nights and only stayed two.The surrounding lot is used for RV parking and they come and go all day. Not a huge deal, but it is definitely a hybrid type of resort and parking is spotty.
You are right on the same lot as a Marina along with an "RV Park". We considered hiring a boat for some Lake Superior fishing. Problem was there is no dock master on duty to book charters, no one was around any of the six or so charter boats the three mornings we were there. I inquired inside and was told how fast they book up, and I need to contact them online. Well, in those three mornings I have to disagree. I did not notice anyone fishing at all. Anyway, we have our own boat in NC so no big deal.
The three different ladies we interacted with at the front desk were pleasant enough. Housekeeping, not so much. Not to say unpleasant, but they obviously did not want to interact with any guests. A couple of them had wireless earphones for music. One was so loud I could hear it. I mean, really? While on the clock?
The location is great for quiet, not so great if you want to do anything. The closest place to get a cocktail is a good 8 block walk to the downtown side of the bridge. Forget parking on the other side of the bridge. Filled up nonstop for the bars and restaurants. No wonder all the hotels on the other side were booked.
You can go on some nice walks, walk out to the beach, or ride down to a park at the end of the peninsula. But if you want more than piece and quiet......I would book on the land side.
After two nights we requested cancelling the remainder of our booking and they graciously agreed with no penalty. We then booked at the IHG Holiday In Downtown. Noisier, more kids, we did not care. The hotel is connected to the Duluth Skywalk, has a restaurant downstairs, and has numerous bars and restaurants within a short distance.

Staff here was fine to work with, no complaints. Hotel is very new and modern. Rooms extremely clean and roomy. The location is what draws me to it more than anything. The island you stay on feels so nice and quaint. It’s neat staying right at the marina and I thought it was neat how you had a parking lot west and south of you with people who were staying in RV’s that owned boats in the marina.

The two complaints I have is shower water pressure and room temperature. I sleep best in a room that’s around 60-62 degrees. The lowest I could set my room to is 65 and it didn’t get near that cold. Rooms don’t have the ability to have windows open to let some cool lake breezes into your room, so you’re stuck with a fairly warm room.

The shower heads seem to be the low-flow style where it severely lacks any solid pressure. I wasn’t very happy when I showered in the morning and it took forever to rinse my shampoo out.

I will continue to stay at this location because of how clean it is and where it’s located. I will gladly pay a few dollars more for colder room temps and higher pressure showers.

We have enjoyed our stays at this hotel and many other Duluth Superior hotels in the past. However, this hotel’s cleanliness has really taken a hit. Our bed showed evidence that the sheets had not been changed (dirt stains on the pillow cases/coverlet) and the floor had food particles that were left beside the bed. We cleaned the countertop when we came, and when asked for the room to be cleaned and towels added, only towels were added. The toilet paper was almost gone when we came, and there was only a single Kleenex in the Kleenex box when we arrived.

We always appreciate the Marriott standard for cleanliness, and this hotel stay did not measure up.

Great location, ( watched the cargo ships go under the lift bridge down the street) great property, clean and well managed, Well prepared for COVID and even gave us a list of pick and delivery restaurants when we checked in. Impressive first stay here and we will be back.
Only two items of note- first is road construction, detours and closures down to the waterfront area that are not well marked if you do not have a GPS. Second I wonder if parking can be an issue here as due to the waterfront location parking is limited.
A Top 10 Fairfield Inn!
