My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Santa Barbara in early March 2020. We visited the city as we had tickets to a show at the Arlington Theater and selected this hotel as it is in close enough walking distance to the theater with easy access to all of the restaurants, shops, and wine tasting offerings along State Street. The hotel provides valet parking, so this was important as well. Breakfast was included in the room rate, which was a nice amenity served in the hotel lobby and consisted of muffins, danishes, bagels, croissants, cereal, waffles, hard boiled eggs, fruit, coffee in to go cups, and juice.

We reserved the Deluxe Queen room, and it was on the small side, but it had a sofa, writing desk, empty refrigerator, Keurig single serve machine, plenty of drawers, hair dryer, iron with board, and nicely decorated. The queen mattress seemed small and not true to size - more like a full sized bed. The bathroom was newer and exceptionally clean.

All hotel staff were organized and efficient.

The room rate was a bit high, but given the location and overall quality of the hotel, it was worth the amount for a short stay.

We stayed over a weekend, and Friday night was exceptionally loud on State Street, as bars are next to the hotel -- we could hear all of the noise until early morning hours. Saturday was quiet.

However, we would most definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

We were on our way to Santa Ynez but due to weather closures we decided to pull off the freeway and stay in Santa Barbara. We were lucky to find two rooms available at the Hotel Santa Barbara right before the mandatory evacuations. The hotel is in a charming historical building located on lower State Street surrounded by restaurants and stores. The minute we walked in the door we felt safe and welcomed. We put our luggage in our room and brought a bottle of wine down to the lobby to relax and appreciate how lucky we were to find the Hotel Santa Barbara. The manager came over to greet us and gave us some wine glasses. They were doing their best to accommodate everyone despite the fact that several staff member were not able to get to work due to the storm. But Chris was lovely and went out of his way to check in with us throughout our stay.

The hotel is preparing for a remodel beginning probably at the end of the year. The property is very clean and inviting as are the rooms. Some of the rooms are very large and some a bit small but comfortable. It doesn't have a restaurant but Joe's right across the street serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers room service. There's coffee and tea all day long and fresh cookies in the afternoon.

If you're looking for a boutique hotel in Santa Barbara with a great location, welcoming staff and reasonable prices it's definitely worth considering Hotel Santa Barbara.

This centrally located historical hotel with a few modifications has been here since 1876, surrounded by lots of bars, restaurants, and wine tasting room on the traffic-free State street. It is just a brisk half-mile walk from the beach and Stearns Wharf, and a block from the Paseo Nuevo outdoor shopping center, making it the perfect place for a couple of day's getaway.
We loved the ornate lobby and classically decorated side rooms; all the reception staff was very friendly and helpful with lots of local knowledge.
The elevator was a real blast from the past and beats the stairs after a long day shopping or sightseeing. Our room was small and decorated with vintage Santa Barbara photographs, along with a basic bed, coffee maker, and refrigerator, but considering that we only wanted a safe place to sleep and change clothes, it was perfect.
The weekend is always busy, come mid-week it's less crazy, and do check out Jills place round the corner for the best steaks in town.

TIP: Behind the hotel is car parking and a place to unload your luggage.
If you’ve found this review helpful I would appreciate a thumbs up below.

Hotel Santa Barbara’s lobby is wonderfully decorated, it gives a very good first impression as you first enter the hotel. Front desk employees were welcoming, and the check in process was quick. Valet parking is at the rear of the hotel. Our bellman, Levy, was helpful and friendly. This is an old but well maintained hotel, the sole elevator is tiny but we encountered no major problem.

Our beautiful room is small but adequate for me and my wife. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Bathroom is updated, with better than average amenities. Sadly the cable tv was not working, I was informed that the cable company was doing some maintenance work. In my opinion, the flat screen tv size is small in these day and age.

Hotel is located a walking distance away from many restaurants, bars and specialty stores. The AmTrak train station is only a few city blocks away from this hotel and the beach just a couple of blocks more.

The downtown area where this hotel is located has clean streets, clean sidewalks but this city has problem with homeless people so the faint smell of urine is noticeable. I will definitely consider staying in this hotel again next time I visit Santa Barbara, California.

Stayed for just one night when travelling from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

The hotel is located right in the middle of town with easy valet parking behind the hotel. The valet staff were very efficient and friendly.

Check in was easy, again with friendly front desk staff.

Our room had been renovated and brought up to date with all modern conveniences. The bed was very comfortable and there was no street noise despite being located in State Street.

The complimentary buffet breakfast was a real bonus as were the make-your-own waffles.

Will stay here again on our next visit.

PRO..We LOVED the location of this hotel. Go right and you get to the pier walking and go Left and you can go to more great shopping/restaurants. Free bikes which we loved and took great beautiful bike rides.
CON..the decor is a bit tired and they only have one elevator so it runs a bit slow but fine to walk the stairs.
Its not upscale but it certainly is a good value based on location, free bikes, parking ($25), free tea/coffee and even cookies and ice tea later in the day.
we were a group of 4 couples and we all were very happy.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for our anniversary and were welcomed graciously. William was very helpful both over the phone and in person. I recommend calling in because William gave us a more affordable rate via booking directly. Furthermore, he greeted us with a room upgrade from a standard to a suite, had a welcome gift waiting for us in the room, and left us a handwritten note. We would definitely stay here again.

My boyfriend and I decided to stay a few nights in the Santa Barbara hotel while visiting Santa Barbara for an extended weekend. We picked this hotel based on location (walking distance to most of the "must-see" and "must-eat" spots offered by this amazing city. We were not disappointed, as a matter of fact, the experience we had at SB hotel exceeded our expectations. The crew made us feel welcomed and part of the family from the first experience with the valley, front desk, and room service. Kelly at the front desk was very personable yet professional, and full of tips on what to do and see in town and Jeff Love took our experience to the next level. The rooms are cozy, clean, and equipped with anything you need. They also have free bikes for guests to tour the city and their coffee and iced tea in the lobby.
We will be back soon!

This hotel is in the perfect location. It is a 15 minute walk to the beach and Stearns Wharf. The stores and restaurants are immediately outside the front door going left and right. The hotel is very clean and well kept. I can't really add anything to the other reviews but I made my decision to book here because of the reviews and I am glad I did. I can tell you that currently State St. is closed to car traffic and this hotel is in the heart of the pedestrian only area. All of the restaurants and nail and hair salons are operating on the street. It is a bustling fun atmosphere. Most everyone is wearing masks on the street.

We stayed one night at the Hotel Santa Barbara. The location is great. Close to shops and restaurants and an easy walk to the wine district and the water. The room was small but updated and comfortable. The elevator was a blast from the past. A small breakfast was included and was served in the lobby. Pastries and bagels.
