Detailed Reviews
We had a airy, bright and clean room. The mattress is just about ready to be changed but everything else was good. The staff was very nice, the food in the restaurant was good. We ate inside because the drawback to eating outside is people come and beg.

I spent three nights at this pretty good place just a few steps away from the market. Here's the pros and cons. Pros: my room (#2) was surprisingly nice! OK, I did shell out 45 k per night... Well, then again, that equals 14 Euros... Anyway, the room was large, had a double and a single bed, even had some decorum, and the bathroom was in OK shape, too. Downstairs is a perfectly fine restaurant - not much too look at but everything's spotless. Next: location. You're smack dab in the center of town. There are some restaurants in the immediate vicinity, a karaoke bar which actually had some flair and cheap drinks, and there's also a disco, which I didn't visit. Oh, and then there's the staff. I told the ladies at the reception that I'd find it somewhat funny if I as a German would be wearing one of those T-Shirts advertising a local candidate. They promised to get me one - and I ended up with two. How nice!
Cons: there's no WiFi. The warm water in the shower has zero pressure - you could barely call it a drizzle. Well, and then I think that they should have stood by their newly arrived guests and helped them defend themselves when the pousse pousee drivers asked for a completely insane sum (literally ten times the regular price!).
So, when you arrive by train and you have reserved a room and a guy comes to pick you up, make sure you haggle with the pousse pousse drivers and insist on paying no more than 1500 Ariary. The pick- up is NOT included in the room price.

We stayed here one night then came back for three more nights. I really like this hotel and think it's the best in Manakara. We are dealing with a different gold standard here so given the options the place was clean, the restaurant which is already well known for its fish, did not disappoint, and the staff are great and friendly.
We stayed at the rooms facing the canal. Behind the barrier wall in the distance, you could hear the ocean. I used my mosquito net and left the windows open. Lovely falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves.
As of July, the city electrical plant shuts down the electricity in Manakara from about 2-3 am to 9 am so charge up phones etc before then.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights and we stayed in a bungalow, closed to the canal and to the ocean.
The room is nothing special, we found the bathroom dirty and the bed was not comfortable at all, so we had to adapt ourselves. The price is 120.000 Ar/ for night ( approximately 40 euros).
We had only breakfast, that was good.
So, compared to the malgasy standards, it's a good choice in Manakara.

Bonjour
