Travelers often commend Hotel St. Gotthard for its prime location, convenient for city exploration and close to shopping and dining. However, guests have consistently reported dissatisfaction with the cleanliness, detailing encounters with poorly cleaned rooms and a shortage of essentials. The hotel's atmosphere and amenities have not escaped criticism, with many describing the decor as dated and the additional charges for facilities like the sauna as disappointing. The quality of service also falls short, with staff frequently characterized as unhelpful, contributing to the sentiment that the hotel lacks value for money.

We stayed at St. Gotthard for 3 nights upon arriving from the US West Coast. The room we had was NOT on the Bahnhofstrasse which has the trams and activity well into the night. So we had a good night's sleep and enjoyed the upscale linens and excellent mattress. The bathroom had both a shower and a tub which was helpful when we were running short of time. We found the staff to be professional and very helpful. The room included breakfast which was the only disappointment: consistent overcooked eggs and under-cooked breakfast meat. So the room comfort gets an "A", and the breakfast gets a "C-". The location merits an "A" because you are between several tram lines and less than 1/2 block from the Main Station (via an underground mall). We would definitely stay here again, but go out for breakfast.

Located 1 block away from HBF, The Gotthard is a good base to explore the city and surroundings. For such a central location, it was nice and quiet at night.

The hotel is showing its age a bit. The rooms are small but clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. There is a thermostat and the windows are able to be opened. There is a safe and umbrella. An ironing board is available from the front desk for the duration of your stay.

The bathroom was modern and clean with great water temperature and pressure. There is a shower but no bathtub. It is small.
The elevator fits 4 people maximum without luggage but the hotel has porters. The staff is courteous.

The best thing about it is the delicious breakfast. The buffet offers eggs, lox, fruit, parfait, cheese and more. But it's not cheap at CHF 25. There is lobby bar and restaurant.

The door is locked late at night so you have to ring the bell.

First let me say the staff here are incredibly nice. The hotel is next to train station maybe a 5 min walk. However, you cannot control the temperature in the room so it was very hot (even in April). You can open the windows but street noice is loud and if your room is located above the outside restaurant then you hear the scrapping of tables and chairs when the restaurant is closing even with windows closed. We opened the windows to cool the room down. the hotel is outdated. The beds are hard as a brick. The room we had was a nice size (542) allowed us to move around in the room feely and not on top of each other. Had a sofa, a couple of chairs and table and a amall desk. Had a small walk in closet. No real bathroom amenities only shoes gel for all.

Although it is almost two weeks by now that I stayed in the Hotel Sankt Gotthard in Zürich, I feel that I should give my feedback to this truly unpleasant stay:
A colleague of mine first booked a room from Monday 19th to Tuesday 20th (CHF 350!!!) and later he added a second night the day before, from Sunday to Monday (CHF250). Arriving they give me a room so I would not have to change after day one. No comment that they would charge me 2 x CHF 350.
Before my arrival, I asked the reception where I could park my car. As they do not have a hotel parking, they suggested I should use the close by parkings at Globus or City Parking. I chose Globus and was surprised to get a bill over the amount of CHF 188 for 43 hrs parking.
Two old and very narrow elevators, one for 2 persons and the other for 4 persons with a bit of luggage.
The room was small and narrow, and the bed was covered by 4 huge pillows and a big bedspread, but no place to put all that stuff. I had to put it on the floor. The bathroom was, I would say, about at least 20 years old.
Breakfast: a barren room, 2 sleepy and yawning young people behind the buffet, which was partially set up on the bar of the hotel. The space in front of the buffet was so narrow that hardly 2 people could pass by eachother. The only one coffee machine was positioned in the far angle of the buffet. Where only one person could walk to the machine. The second person had to wait 3 meters away and let the first person walk out of this kind of cul-de-sac. No background music in the breakfast room, so that you could hear other hotel guests’ knives and spoons on the plates and on the table. There was still water on the buffet. When I asked for sparkling water I was told that I had to pay extra for this.
Arriving in my room after day one: the bed was made, but the coffee cups were not cleaned and the waste on the table was still there. No water refill. I complained and reception sent a room service. When I came back from dinner: The cups were cleaned, the waste was gone. But a cleaning rag lay on my bedside table and the TV remote control was gone. With the help of the receptionist, we found it under the bed.
When checking out they could not print out my invoice. They promised they would send it to me immediately as the printer would work again. The day after the bill had not arrived yet. I had to call the reception to get the invoice sent.
All in all a very unpleasant experience from the start to the end. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel is in a great location very close to the main train station. The staff are friendly. The room was big and the bathroom was nice.
That's all the positives, I'm afraid. We were told we had been given a free upgrade to a junior suite which we were obviously pleased about. As soon as we walked in we realised why ... someone who had booked the room had obviously declined it (making it available) because it stank of cigarette smoke. It was horrible. The coffee machine didn't work and the bed was possibly the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. Closest thing I can liken it to is a concrete slab suspended on broken springs. Breakfast the next day was a major disappointment. As vegetarian and dairy intolerant there was nothing for us to eat except diced fruit and dry bread. No thanks. We walked out and around the corner to Roots Cafe and had a delicious vegan spread, which I can highly recommend by the way. As for St. Gotthard... for that money? ... nah.

Although the hotel is at an excellent location, I would only recommend anyone to stay there if they are aware that, this being a city hotel, there will be a few things that won’t meet your expectations. I wasn’t expecting a lot from this hotel due to its lower price compared with other similar ones… you get what you pay, they say.
The rooms are excessively small. Our room was a double, with a QUEEN bed, not even a king, and we had to place our backs on the floor of our entryway because there was no space anywhere else. However, the bathroom had an acceptable size, compared to the rest of the room. Our room faced a side street, so it wasn’t very loud at night, but the afternoon sun came in and, being July the heat was unbearable in the evening. The AC didn’t work at all, because it’s centrally controlled.
The breakfast is OK, nothing special. I did miss some pastries. They do not offer any. But you’ll see the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, fruits and a very good croissant. You can also request omelettes or fried eggs on demand.
In summary, the only advantage this hotel has on top of others is the location, everything else was fine, but not exceptional.

Hotel St. Gotthard has been our choice to get over jetlag coming from the U.S. west coast for several trips. The location next to the main train station is excellent for subsequent travel within Switzerland or Europe (e.g. going to Zermatt to ski). Located on the main walking/shopping street Bahnoffstrasse, there can be a bit of noise so you might want to ask for a room on the back of the building. The staff, from front desk to housekeeping, are professional and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though quite dated. It took a long time to get hot water in the shower.

Our 5 night stay at Hotel St Gotthard in Zurich started well. It was a great location near the central station and proved to be an excellent base from which we could explore the City. However, as noted from previous reviews there were serious issues with regard to cleaning, or rather the lack of it. Our room was not cleaned properly during our stay and was not cleaned at all on one occasion. The corridors were often filled with trolleys of dirty linen making it look very untidy.
The best part of the breakfast was the fresh fruit which was really nice but the cooked elements seemed to be very slow getting refreshed , resulting in some very unappetising food being left for a long time! There was not even a toaster available.
It seems likely that both the cleaning and breakfast issues result from staff shortages, but they leave an unfavourable impression on guests, which is reflected in recent reviews. It is a shame as those staff we did deal with were friendly and helpful.
It is a shame that such a lovely hotel does not live up to expectations.

I usually hold meetings at this hotel as it is very close to the main railway station in Zurich. This time we had a longer meeting and I stayed over night.
Some rooms might be in a good shape, mine was not.
Very thin windows, no acoustic insulation, very loud in the morning when the deliveries start, between 4 and 5 o'clock. No heating in the bathroom. Average breakfast.
I will keep using this hotel for meetings but never again for an overnight stay.

This was a great place to stay. The rooms were great, clean and spacious. The bed and the pillows were wonderful. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had breakfast as part of our package and like everything else, it was also excellent. In the evening there was a wonderful piano player in the lobby bar who could play anything. Glad we stayed here.

The breakfast is probably overpriced for what you can obtain in the area. Particularly if you are travelling by rail - there are scores of options in and under the railway station, many of which would give you as good a meal at half the price.
