Detailed Reviews
My husband and I have the fondest memories of Hotel Giotto. The presidential suite spaciously accommodated us in one room and my mother in the other, and the huge terrace was an unforgettable gathering place for sunrise, sunset, full moons, and countless hours spent lounging there in between. Valley views are unforgettable from the handsome bar, the elegant restaurant, or the rooms with terraces and balconies. Staff are warm and attentive yet unobtrusive. The restaurant is excellent, and the wine, dinner tasting menu, and breakfasts are an especially strong value. Finally, the location is ideal, just a five-minute stroll from the Basilica of Saint Frances and 10-minute walk to Piazza del Commune.

It’s difficult to know where to start reviewing this hotel as it is just so wonderful. We arrived by car and allowed the staff to park it in their onsite private covered carpark (a nice benefit giving the lack of parking spaces in Assisi). It’s amazing how they’re able to fit so many vehicles into such a small space without accidents. The check in was perfect - quick, pain-free and with excellent service. The public areas are beautiful, the tiled floors and polished wood immaculate. The bar area is sumptuous with beautiful stuffed leather armchairs to sit, relax, read and have a drink. Our room had a private sunbathing terrace overlooking the valley below Assisi and we were very lucky because this is the second time we have stayed here and found the room was almost twice as big as the previous one (which also had a terrace). It looks like it was originally two rooms (one maybe a room for someone who needed a wheelchair) converted into one as the door was very wide and there were two bathrooms. Perfect. The floors are polished wood and the bathrooms polished stone throughout. We have eaten at the hotel before and the food is excellent. The restaurant is spectacular being on the bottom floor but still with a great view due to the steep slope that the hotel is built on. The restaurant itself has vaulted stone ceilings and panoramic windows to accentuate the beautiful view. The chairs are padded and the tables dressed in linen. The service is excellent. We didn’t make use of the concierge or spa. The only thing that potential guests should know is that it can be a challenge if you are mobility-impaired because while the hotel overlooks the area surrounding Assisi, it is towards the bottom end of town and a steep hill needs to be climbed to get to the local attractions at the top end. Having said that, the Basilica of San Francesco is the other way i.e. downhill. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and will always stay here when we visit Assisi.

We really enjoyed our one night stay here. Most private vehicles are not allowed all the way up the hill to the hotel so be prepared to take a taxi. The hotel floor levels are oddly numbered in the elevator(s) so ask which way to go before taking one. US customers: they do not turn on the AC here until mid-May so be prepared to sleep with the windows open. We were very comfortable in early May since the night-time temps were in the low 60s. Some rooms have splendid views of the valley below and others do not so ask for a room with a view. The restaurant is in the basement. We had one group evening meal and one breakfast here. Both meals were very good.

We splurged on one of the rooms that offered a private decks with a sprawling view over the whole valley. Needless to say, it was unforgettable. The room was lovely, the staff professional, and the location was perfect. What else can you ask in a hotel? Just book it and have a Spritz on their incredible deck.

Hotel Giotto Assisi is a very good option for staying in Assisi. It's centrally placed, has on site parking, the staff are very helpful and the views from our room were spectacular. I could have given it a 5 but just held off because the room itself was a little bit sparse compared with others we had on our Italy tour, but otherwise I would still thoroughly recommend both staying here and having dinner in their restaurant.

+1
Stayed here as part of tour package.
Location: Hotel is an uphill climb. Taxi is available at bottom of hill and will cost you Euro10 to go up to the hotel and another Euro10 to go down hill. If u have large luggage or knee problem, better to take the taxi. Close to Basilica of St Francis. Early morning walk to the basilica means you are alone at the church yard. View from lounge is fantastic.
Room: Basic room, no kettle, tea/coffee making in room. Bed is firm. Pillow on soft side. Generally clean, we were allotted 106 at main hotel overlooking a yard and the bathroom has a stench. Since we only stayed a night, we did not ask to change room.
Meal: Breakfast spread is adequate. Christmas Eve dinner as part of tour is sumptuous.

The staff, to a man and woman, were charming, friendly and extremely helpful. Our room looked on to an exquisite panorama from the plain to the Apennines. It was kept meticulously clean.
The breakfast- we had freshly squeezed orange juice yoghurt and honey on the comb just for a start, snd the rest was lovely . Dinner was served with exquisite glass and ceramic ware,
Perfectly. The food was beautifully presented and utterly delicious, and for the quality, reasonably priced. Assisi is built on a mountain, and some days we walked up and then down and some days we walked down and then up, so we thought the hotel was positioned just right. Would love to return!

Very warm welcome at this conveniently situated hotel to visit all main sites in Assisi. The view from our room and the bar terrace were spectacular. Very relaxed atmosphere throughout the hotel and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. They also arranged a private tour of Assisi with a local guide Werner who was very knowledegable and informative. We would thoroughly recommended this tour.
Overall an extremely enjoyable stay.

Nice with private parking outside the door. Wonderful view of the valley.
We had a nice room and a nice bath. But not as nice as many others.
The wall had a lot of wounds an marks. Only just ordinary furniture, but a nice bed.
To get to our room we had to pass what looked as the kitchen entrace/back door.
The hotel is in a old, very nice building, but maybe the back stairs should be made a little nicer to meet the standard they want to offer.
Nice breakfast which we choosed to eat outside. A beautyful terrace with wonderful view. Cats into our legs all the time spoiled a little of the nice outside breakfast. Others would probably love cats.
I quess you pay for the location in the middle of a very popular city.
A nice bar also with the same stunning view.

This is a good hotel in Assissi if you don't have a car. It is about less than 10 minutes walk from the bus stop at the Basilica. Nice breakfast buffet and friendly staff. The rooms are clean and modern. Close to the Basilica and other churches and sights in Assissi.

I don’t remember there being a pool here (I was there in November and so I wouldn’t be looking for one) and I don’t remember seeing a pool anywhere in the area. It’s an old town with small cobblestone hilly streets.
When we visited last month, our bathroom was bright and clean and nicely equipped, including a blow dryer. I don't believe there are coffee makers in the rooms, but it is absolutely worth the trek to the breakfast room for a fresh cappuccino or cafe Americano!
I'm not sure about the buildings but any room overlooking the valley and Santa Maria degli Angeli is a jewel.
My room had large doors that open. I didn’t see any rooms in my building with balcony seating or a terrace. (There are two buildings that are part of the hotel) however it had plenty of outside seating.
