Hope Solo Wedding: Timeline of Soccer Star's Romance with Jerramy Stevens

U.S. Women’s National Team star Hope Solo and former NFL player Jerramy Stevens have taken the next step in their relationship and are now reportedly married. 

Dave Mahler of Seattle’s KJR Radio reported the news via Twitter.

Marriage is always a joyous occasion and mazel tov to both Solo and Stevens on this momentous event. Fans of both athletes certainly wish the couple nothing but the best for the future, but when reviewing the past, this has not been a traditional storybook romance.

Here is a timeline of the couple’s relationship, starting with a brief recap of both Solo’s and Stevens’ careers.

2000-Present: Hope Solo’s Career 

The 31-year-old goalkeeper was born in Washington and went on to be a star in between the posts for the University of Washington.

She played for United States national youth teams before making her first appearance for the senior squad in 2000. She has since gone on to become a star for her incredible athleticism and reflexes.

As a key member of the teams that won the gold medal at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and finished as runners-up at the 2011 World Cup, Solo has become widely regarded as the best female goalkeeper in the world.

2002-2012: Jerramy Steven’s Career

Stevens also attended the University of Washington, and the 6’7” tight end was a first-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2002 draft.

He spent five seasons with the Seahawks and four with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, never fully living up to his potential. His best season came in Seattle in 2005 when he caught 45 passes for 554 yards and five touchdowns.

Throughout his career, Stevens was plagued by constant legal troubles. His past arrests include charges of sexual assault, driving under the influence and a possession of marijuana violation that led to his release from the Buccaneers and the end of his NFL career.

Summer 2012: First Date

Solo and Stevens had attempted a sensible course of action and were able to keep their relationship out of the media, so it is not certain exactly when the two starting dating.

Following reports of their nuptials, most media outlets (including ESPN) put the length of their relationship at two months. This means the two got together shortly after Solo returned to Washington from the London Olympics.

November 8: Applying for a Marriage License 

The two made the decision to get married last week, and US Weekly reported that they applied for a marriage license on November 8. At this point, their relationship was still not common knowledge.

November 12: Stevens Arrested for Domestic Assault

Chuck Schilken of The Los Angeles Times reported that a dispute broke out between Stevens and Solo over the decision to live in Washington or Florida following their marriage.

The report cited that the incident in questions occurred at a “party in a home” and cited “Stevens' admission he argued with Solo, her injury, signs of a fight in the bedroom and dried blood on Stevens' shirt” as probable cause for the arrest. It also notes that “Solo and her brother, Marcus, who called 911, blamed the disturbance on two or three unknown men who left the party before the police arrived. Marcus Solo, 34, told police he used a stun gun on one of the men.”

Stevens was released without being charged, but Schilken notes that the investigation is still ongoing. The press got wind of the story, and their relationship is anything but secret now.

November 13: Tying the Knot

Through all the turbulence, Solo and Stevens went ahead with their plans to marry. It was certainly a rocky path to this moment, but the two have decided to work their way through the recent incident.

As Mahler noted, the wedding happened on Tuesday night, and hopefully the drama and the media will have a significantly smaller role to play in their relationship going forward.
