A couple we met in Kauai recommended Basalt when we ask about a nice meal while in Honolulu. This was their pick. The restaurant is basically inside a grocery store but once you’re into the restaurant portion you don’t really notice. The food was fantastic....We Had eaten a pretty big lunch so we split the pre-fixe menu - lobster bisque, seafood paella and cheesecake for us. Everything was delicious. The servers were attentive but not overly so. Prices were great for what we got. Highly recommend for a nice dinner versus some of the more “tourist” spots.More

We had dinner here, we each had the prix fixe meal but with different choices. Not cheap, but not exorbitant. There is a nice attached market like a large mini mart, and the prices are as moderate as they can be in a tourist area....The outdoor seating area gets a nice breeze and is well covered, and the street noise is not bad except for the occasional annoying Harley.More

Nothing fancy but really very good food. Try having a late lunch/early dinner around 3:30/4pm. Happy hour for drinks and some greatvPeruvian inspired dishes plus really good burger, pork sliders, and more. Chef Juan Wong Barrios teases with a dish called beef fries. Actually it's...a rendition of Peruvian "Lomo Saltado" that almost any first rate restaurant in Lima, Peru would call its own. The crispyquinoa shrimp with ají aioli was a revelation. The duck empanadas and chef's Poke with Peruvian ají and rocotto spices inspired. For dessert try the tiramisu and the basque cheesecake were both excellent. And who doesn't like a house wine for $5 a glass (or $20 a bottle). We went twice and only we're sorry we hadn't discovered it earlier.More

We enjoyed both of our visits to Basalt during Labor Day weekend. Great selection of beers and wines to pair with your meal of choice.

Too expensive for takeout that wasn’t very good. We got a couple pretty basic things (breakfast and a burger) and they weren’t very enjoyable. Seems that lots of Waikiki restaurants have very similar menus and Basalt’s was the same but more expensive with just their...charcoal pancakes as something unique.More

The food is excellent, and a reservation is a must especially if a group of 4 or more. We were just 2 and lucky to get seated at the bar which made no difference in quality of service. We were greeted promptly, order taken, and...food brought out quickly. I found this restaurant through Open Table about a week before our trip, and at that time the reservations were filled. We decided to come anyway, and fortunate to get the last 2 bar seats. I would definitely recommend.More

Have you ever heard of Charcoal Buttermilk Pancakes? Well folks they exist and they taste goooooddd and look so pretty! Charcoal Buttermilk Pancakes ($18): the black is from super fine charcoal from Japan (promise no carbon emission!) with fragrant guava-strawberry sauce, whipped cream with a...dash of charcoal mix and topped with fresh berries (bacon on the side $5). That distinct guava smell is so appetizing! Meat Cheese Omelette ($18): chunky, eggy, generously meaty goodness Onion rings ($7) so crispy and yummy Basalt gave us our wonderful first meal as we were starving and fresh off the plane in Honolulu. This jump-started our foodie week and gave us a good intro to this island’s fantastic eats! Mahalo Ronald for your fast and friendly service! Basalt can be found inside the Dukes Lane Market on touristy Kuhio Ave. my IG: @i_therefore_concludeMore

Wow, why didn't we find this place sooner? it was right down the street from our hotel Waikiki Beachcomber. the best food ever and an amazing happy hour 3-5. I'm in love with everything. the perfectly cooked shrimp appetizer with a crunchy quinoa topping with...a gourmet tarter sauce..... to die for. I'm usually not a fan of quinoa but whoa who would have known they could make it taste like a crispy onion with a pop. the chicken wings with a ginger garlic sauce with a pineapple vinaigrette soooooo delish. perfectly cooked chicken wings, and mouth-watering. their steak is melt in your mouth amazing. can't say enough good things. stay away from anything commercial such as shorfyre (disgusting) Morton's (greasy) and especially the signature (salty and salty). all these places do is feed you crap with tons of sodium and grease.More

Excellent food and great service. Good central location. Had prime rib and it was most tasty. I would recommend and we will be back!

Came here on our last night in Honolulu and ordered the prix fixe steak with salad and dessert. Steak was the best I had in a long time, grilled very well and quiet tasty with potatoes and a vegetable. Every bit was substantial. Waiters were...professional and attentive. We were offered courteously offered pepper and presented with new utensils prior to our entrees. Basalt is located inside the Duke's Lane food court beyond Spitfire and across a stone throw away from Paia.More
