Dr. Wagner's Honey Island Swamp Tours
Stop: 2 hours - Admission included
Enjoy this Louisiana Swamp experience — a unique outdoor adventure that is safe, organized, fun, and educational. Upon arrival at the starting location on the West Pearl River, in Slidell, Louisiana, venture in to the gift shop overlooking the Tupelo and Cypress swamp and check in for the tour. Be sure to take a look out of the back window to see if any backyard guests are lurking in the murky waters below. Don’t forget to use the restrooms before embarking on this 2-hour tour throughout nearly 70,000 acres of the Honey Island Swamp, a permanently protected wildlife preserve. While walking down the dock, embrace the excitement of seeing the moss hanging from the gnarled cypress trees and the sweet smell of wild azaleas in the air. There's an undeniable eagerness to explore. Listen intently to the captain’s tales of pirates, Bigfoot, and prehistoric creatures roaming the region while entering the primitive beauty of the Honey Island Swamp. Keep an eye out for alligators, herons, egrets, deer, feral hogs, nutria, raccoons, otters, turtles, and frogs — an abundance of wildlife along the banks and the in the murky waters. Or look up and out for bald eagles, owls, osprey, and other waterfowl soaring through the skies. They could be visible one second and gone the next. Those touring Honey Island can easily see why Louisiana is known as the Fisherman’s Paradise. Passing through the Cajun village, where local fisherman reside, see them catching bluegill, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, and warmth. Thousands of pounds of crawfish are caught in these waters every season as well. All the tour boats are inspected and approved by the US Coast Guard. These small, custom-built, flat-bottom boats transport approximately 20-24 individuals each. They are operated by experienced local guides who interact with the guests and make the trip both enjoyable and exciting. With the journey back up the river, the captain leads the way to the original departure location to close out the tour. NOTE: This option does NOT include transportation to and from New Orleans. Please select "Honey Island Swamp Tour with Pick-up from New Orleans," should you need hotel pick up.

      Don't Miss This Tour!
This was a great tour at a great price. Our guide, Hunter, was extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and had a terrific sense of humor. We saw alligators up close, raccoons in the water, lots of turtles, and all kinds of birds. What an amazing ecosystem!

      Great swamp tour!
They have a great thing going! Our guide was excellent and knew the sweet spots! Did a great job turning the boat for all to see, knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, and was entertaining! We saw many gators, raccoons, and snakes! Fun times for our group which ranged from 13-76 years old!

Beautiful trip through the swamp with wonderful driver and boat guide!
Excellent tour all around! We especially enjoyed our time with Connie, our driver, who shared her incredible stories about the history as well as her life in New Orleans. Honestly, meeting Connie was worth the price of admission by itself! What a gem of a person. The tour was fantastic. The waterways are serene and beautiful. We enjoyed the scenery, the wildlife and our guide enriched the experience with stories about this beautiful place. Highly recommend this business and experience!

Learned a lot about Swamp life
Wonderful swamp tour! Our guide Mark was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. The tour accommodated 41 of us very efficiently. We toured in December so it was very cold but we were still able to see quite a bit of swamp wildlife and other interesting things.

      Worth the drive!
This was the highlight of our entire trip! Captain Don is well versed in all things swamp. An eco-conscious company who respects and encourages respect of the wildlife in the area. He did throw out a ew marshmallows to gators and racoon, but never attempted to touch them nor lure them to the boat. The boat held maybe 20 people, which wasn't bad, the seating allowed everyone a great view. We we're super lucky to go on warm day, where lots of alligators were sunning themselves. I would very much recommend this tour.

      A fun tour
We had a great time on this swamp tour. We saw alligators up close and we say blue heron, turtles, raccoons and a wild boar. The tour guide was very informative. I definitely recommend doing this if you go to New Orleans.

Fascinating Look into a Unique Ecosystem
Several friends recommended this particular swamp tour and they were right. Despite intermittent rain, the trip on the West Pearl river to the swamp was fun and educational. Our guide Chris was relaxed and funny; he was extremely knowledgeable without being pedantic. We were able see several alligators (some quite closely) as well as blue herons, egrets, and a colony of raccoons. We learned about the fish, the water, and the land. Much of the tour took us into protected areas and it was interesting to learn about the resource management both currently and historically. Out driver picked us up at our hotel and shared a local history and e ents during the 35 minute trip to Honey Island. Nathan was personable and interesting. It was fascinating to learn about the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina from someone who had lived through it. Highly recommended.

      Amazing Swamp tour
Our tour guide Captain Hunter on July 12th made our trip unforgettable. He was knowledgeable about the area and overall fun to be with. This tour tour was one of the best parts of our week vacation to New Orleans. We saw lots of gators and other wildlife. Although many people are saying cash only we booked online with a card, and it included transportation to and from our hotel on Canal Street

We actually visited in January 2019 but there was no selection available for this. We had an awesome time on this tour. It was myself, husband, mother in law (late 70s) and our 2.5 year old daughter. Captain HUNTER was so knowledgeable about the area and told us many interesting things. We could tell he was passionate about his job and we just overall, had such a great time and saw awesome animals with up close interactions.

My boyfriend and I had a great tour with Captain Luka! Even though we didnt see any alligators because of the cold weather, Captain Luka still made the experience interesting and fun! I would definitely recommend this tour. We booked the tickets that included the transportation and the bus was clean and on time. No complaints!

We had a fun time on the tour. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable as well as friendly and entertaining. We took this tour in February, so the swamp was much different than it probably is in the summer time. However, we still got to see some wildlife and our guide pointed out some of the benefits of doing the tour in the winter. The company was also very thoughtful to provide blankets since it gets colder on the water. I'd really like to do this again in the summer when all of the plants and more of the animals are in full swing. It would probably also be a nice summer activity since you get a great breeze while on the boat.

Great tour with very knowledgeable guide. Pick up at our hotel was right on time and the driver provided interesting information on the way to and from the swamp. Our boat guide was extremely knowledgeable on managed to find a number of different wildlife. We saw several alligators, racoon, and many different birds. A very worth wild way to spend a morning outside of the city. Toward the end of the two hour trip our guide had several drop lines hanging from trees and we were also able to see a good size catfish and many crayfish

Lots of Wildlife. Educational and informative. We had a great time seeing tons of alligators, egrets turtles, raccoons and even a big boar.. plenty of plant life to explore as well. Interesting way of life for the many houses built in the swamp. Boat was comfortable enough- suggest sitting near the captain so you can hear him clearly. We were furthest away and at times hard to hear but when asked to repeat , he did a great job. We had Captain Hunter. I would recommend this trip. We were picked up from our hotel and brought to the tour which was a nice convenience for us.

We've been on another swamp tour near New Orleans, and an airboat ride, but the Honey Island Swamp Tour on and near the Pearl River in Slidell is our new favorite. Saw plenty of the natural bayou areas, and of course, the alligators, but also got a visit near the boat along the roots of the nearby trees by a large wild pig, and a bunch of raccoons running around chasing after the treats of marshmallows and bits of hot dogs tossed by our tour guide. Plenty of fun, very enjoyable, and informative.
