Stop: 2 hours - Admission included
Enjoy this Louisiana Swamp experience — a unique outdoor adventure that is safe, organized, fun, and educational. Upon arrival at the starting location on the West Pearl River, in Slidell, Louisiana, venture in to the gift shop overlooking the Tupelo and Cypress swamp and check in for the tour. Be sure to take a look out of the back window to see if any backyard guests are lurking in the murky waters below. Don’t forget to use the restrooms before embarking on this 2-hour tour throughout nearly 70,000 acres of the Honey Island Swamp, a permanently protected wildlife preserve. While walking down the dock, embrace the excitement of seeing the moss hanging from the gnarled cypress trees and the sweet smell of wild azaleas in the air. There's an undeniable eagerness to explore. Listen intently to the captain’s tales of pirates, Bigfoot, and prehistoric creatures roaming the region while entering the primitive beauty of the Honey Island Swamp. Keep an eye out for alligators, herons, egrets, deer, feral hogs, nutria, raccoons, otters, turtles, and frogs — an abundance of wildlife along the banks and the in the murky waters. Or look up and out for bald eagles, owls, osprey, and other waterfowl soaring through the skies. They could be visible one second and gone the next. Those touring Honey Island can easily see why Louisiana is known as the Fisherman’s Paradise. Passing through the Cajun village, where local fisherman reside, see them catching bluegill, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, and warmth. Thousands of pounds of crawfish are caught in these waters every season as well. All the tour boats are inspected and approved by the US Coast Guard. These small, custom-built, flat-bottom boats transport approximately 20-24 individuals each. They are operated by experienced local guides who interact with the guests and make the trip both enjoyable and exciting. With the journey back up the river, the captain leads the way to the original departure location to close out the tour. NOTE: This option does NOT include transportation to and from New Orleans. Please select "Honey Island Swamp Tour with Pick-up from New Orleans," should you need hotel pick up.

I booked a tour with 5 of my friends, all of us in our mid-late 20s. Most of us are into photography as a hobby, and were looking for something to do outside while we were visiting New Orleans. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. He was an older gentleman who had grown up in the area. Throughout the tour he'd share stories about what it was like growing up spending his free time in the swamp with his friends, talk about how the area has changed (for better and worse) and what the state of Louisiana was doing to reclaim its wetlands. We saw plenty of wildlife, and he was very quick to spot various turtles, herons, ducks, alligators, raccoons and more. Each time our group saw an animal, he would stop or slow down the boat so that everyone could take photos as he shared facts about the wildlife. At one point we saw a very active alligator, and our guide parked the boat for a handful of minutes while he enticed the gator with marshmallows and hotdogs. We had plenty of time to get photos and appreciate the how quickly a motivated gator can move. Our guide was smart, had a great sense of humor, and cared for the swamp as if it were his own back yard. If we're ever in New Orleans again, we would definitely make the trip back for another tour.

Are you ready for the ride of your life at the most unsuspecting place! Now I am a city girl (or suburban depending on who you ask) so a swamp ride is not my typical adventure, but it was such a great time! It started with a speed ride to the swamp where I almost lost my glued on eyelashes- it was fast fast! When we slowed down we were greeted with alligators literally swimming towards us! Fortunately they were more interested in eating the marshmallow than us. Thank god because I was looking delicious. We saw alligators of various sizes, but not the big one. Maybe you’ll be lucky so definitely GO! We also saw these houses/shacks of a community of people basking in swamp life, beautiful flowers, plants, and trees, and even saw other creatures! Like a family of raccoons! These were the cutest raccoons I have ever seen unlike the trash rats you encounter in the Windy City! They got there marshmallows too lol. They risked their lives getting in the alligator infested water for a damn marshmallow! It was to die for! It was a little long of a boat ride and got a little bored after awhile! It was so much fun though and definitely worth the hike away from New Orleans! If you have them pick you up you will save money FYI! Please go this is so fun and we highly recommend!

My husband and I took our three kids (ages 9,7,&4) on the mid day trip. This was our first visit to the swamp and it did not disappoint! Captain Hunter was charismatic and knowledgeable. We were able to see a lot of the local wildlife from the safety of our boat, including raccoons, fish, turtles, birds, and many alligators! Hunter’s witty banter kept the experience comfortable for the kids and enjoyable for the adults. We would highly recommend this trip for any couple or family looking to see the beauty of Louisiana or even a quick trip for nearby travelers!

The tour was amazing. Our guide, Captain Mel, was the best!! From the time we drove into the parking lot until we left, we felt welcomed. Captain Mel spotted wildlife with an eagle’s eye. We saw alligators (although small due to early season), slider turtles, blue herons, egrets, snakebirds, as well as the sites of the swamp. He made sure to spend enough time and position the boat so we could all see the wildlife. Captain Mel was very informative as well as humorous. I would definitely go on the tour again!

It was not as informative as I expected. The guide turned off his Mike so I heard very little of what he was saying. Mostly It was see what see what you see. I am glad we did it but mostly would not do it twice. The cost was reasonable. And there were lots of people (15 per boat). They only accept checks or cash. No debut or credit.

We took the swamp tour and enjoyed it very much. I think that its a great bargain for the price and our guide was both thorough and knowledgable about the history of the area as well as making sure we saw wildlife. During our tour we saw several gators, many racoons, eagles, and several other type of birds local to the area. I would have given it a five star review except we sat at the end of the boat and sunce we were near the motor even though we were right next to the guide we could not hear he was saying from the one speaker located near the front of the boat. Other than this, it was a great time

My boyfriend and I went on this tour on March 2nd and had a great experience. We saw pigs, raccoons, two small alligators, snakes, turtles, and tons of beautiful birds. Captain Tony was awesome and knew the answer to every question thrown at him without hesitation. He also recommended a few restaurants and lunch was great thanks to him :). Booking was easy and overall it was just fun! Highly recommend

As a 75-year-old New Orleans native, I hate to admit that this was my first swamp tour. Why did I wait so long? I had low expectations and imagined it would be a “touristy” experience. So wrong. Our grandkids came to town and I was forced out of my torpor. Our family of 7 booked the first tour of the morning. By the time we rounded the first bend of the West Pearl, it was clear that Matt, our captain/guide, was knowledgeable, passionate about the area and its ecosystem, intimate with its creatures and possessed of a great sense of humor. He summoned alligators of all sizes, many varieties of birds and a pair of raccoons so cute they made us forget their scraggly city cousins. He knows all the trees and plants. He makes you realize that the Honey Island Swamp is a remarkable treasure in our south Louisiana midst. We’ll be back.

Excellent swamp tour! We’ve been taking swamp tours with this company for many years every time we are in the area. Informative and fun guides and always great animal encounters. However not a fan of the recently added use of marshmallows to attract wildlife to come into view. They are sending the wrong message that it is ok to feed wild animals and with unhealthy food at that.

Honey Island Swamp Tours was on our list of things to do during Mardi Gras. The folks there greet you in the parking lot to help you park, guide you to the office to secure your reservation, and call your group within minutes to head to the boat. Captain Steel was our guide and he was so informative and pleasant. He answered everyone’s questions and made sure everyone had a chance to see the crocs, turtles, raccoons and snakes. It was a wonderful tour and our little ones and teens enjoyed it. Highly recommend.
