The Vegas Diaries: Romance, Rolling the Dice, and the Road to Reinvention Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 1,034 ratings

The #1 New York Times bestselling author returns with this candid, humorous, and captivating memoir chronicling her journey toward reinvention and self-acceptance.

When you've come out the other side of the bizarre, twisted world of the Playboy mansion, where do you land? If you're Holly Madison . . . there's no place like Las Vegas!

After making the sudden decision to reclaim her life, Holly broke free from the sheltered, deceptive confines of the mansion (which meant exiting a hit television show) and was determined to start her life over . . . from scratch. Without the security of a job or relationship, she set out to reinvent herself on no one's terms but her own.

Deciding to roll the dice and begin again in the glamorous and dreamlike city of Las Vegas, Holly quickly realized that while she may have left her past in the rearview mirror, the labels and stereotypes that came from it weren't so quick to leave her. With a fierce commitment to take charge of her own narrative, Holly dives headfirst into a journey of self-discovery. After a whirlwind stint on Dancing with the Stars, she snags the coveted lead role in the Strip's hottest new burlesque spectacular and lands a reality series spotlighting her new life as a single woman.

If her own television show and dream job as a showgirl weren't enough to keep her busy, Holly explores the decadent, exclusive inner-world of Sin City, navigating it's social and dating scene with humor and heart. When it comes to romance, she is met with an eclectic cast of characters, from fame hounds to long distance loves to the occasional celebrity and more than one tabloid mishap. In this reflective, heartwarming memoir, Holly learns that each dating disaster holds an important, and in some cases difficult to face, lesson about herself.

The Vegas Diaries is a comedy of errors, set against the glitz and glamour of the dazzling Vegas strip. Through the wild and crazy experiences on one young woman's quest to "have it all," Holly faces her fears, anxieties, and insecurities to discover that her journey to self-sufficiency is also her path to healing. Letting go of trying to prove herself to others, Holly finally gains the courage to confront her past-and in the process finds the life and love she deserves.

When Holly Madison broke free from the oppressive confines of the Playboy mansion (which meant exiting a hit television show), she was determined to start over—from scratch and on no one’s terms but her own.

Deciding to roll the dice and begin again in the glamorous and dreamlike city of Las Vegas, Holly quickly realizes that while she may have left her past in the rearview mirror, the labels and stereotypes that came from it weren’t so quick to leave her. Fiercely committed to taking charge of her own narrative, Holly dives headfirst into a journey of self-discovery that includes a whirlwind stint on Dancing with the Stars, the coveted lead in the Strip’s hottest burlesque spectacular, and a reality series spotlighting her new life as a single woman. If this weren’t enough to keep her busy, Holly explores the decadent, exclusive inner-world of Sin City, navigating its dating scene with humor and heart, and quickly learning that each seemingly romantic disaster holds an important, and in some cases difficult, lesson about herself.

Through it all, Holly realizes that her journey to self-sufficiency is also her path to healing. Letting go of trying to prove herself to others, she finally gains the courage to confront her past—and in the process finds the life and love she deserves.

So good! Juicy details about her life in Vegas and her book pursued me to purchase her 2 seasons of Holly's world which is just another great thing on it's own. I'm currently fan girling over holly this year lol and I recommend reading down the rabbit hole first then Vegas diaries and then if you watch her show it will explain a lot after reading her books.

Let me preface this by saying that I loved her previous memoir, 'Down the Rabbit Hole'. I absolutely devoured that book and read it in the space of a day.
This book, however, was difficult to read. The narrative often jumped from one time period to another, making it very difficult to follow. It felt less like a memoir and more like fiction. I understand that names and events may not be included or changed for legal reasons, but when I choose to read a 'memoir', I would expect that it read as such and whole conversations not be included merely for the sake of narrative.
Saying that, if you are a fan of Holly and enjoyed watching 'Holly's World', you would likely get something out of this book. There are some interesting tidbits peppered throughout the story that make it worthwhile reading. I love Holly, but this book was just not as juicy as I expected.

Holly Madison's books are written with good style and organization. When watching the "Girls Next Door" I suspected already that Holly is much smarter then the rest of the girls. I mean she and Bridget. The Vegas Diaries is the continuation of the "Down to the Rabit Hole". They are both a pleasure to read or listen to. Holly is reading both in the audio versions. She does have a great diction. The Vegas Diaries book describes her effort to recover from abusive relationsip living in the Mansion. Good style, well organized chapters, perfect for self help for any girl or a woman, going through the breakup. Obviously needs to be addapted to realistic circumstances if one is not an actres in the show business.

I remember watching The Girls Next Door and not responding to Holly who seemed cool and detached vs. Bridget and Kendra who seemed warm and effusive. Little did I know what was going on behind the scenes. I was so surprised reading Holly's memoir of living in Hef's mansion. Surprised at what went on and surprised to find her such a good writer and so likeable. I just loved that book. Not just because it was the inside dope, but because of her honesty about herself. I enjoyed her thinking, how she viewed things, her personality.

I really enjoyed this memoir, too, although I didn't really feel her life experiences for those years were hefty enough to quality writing another memoir. But I read the book non-stop. She's so engaging. Again, she was so honest. I liked when she wrote about wondering what people thought of her and trying to figure out what was going on behind her back and worrying about how things were misinterpreted or entirely fabricated about her life. At first, I thought, Man, she's obsessed with what people think. But then I thought back to when I was younger and I for sure went into obsessive mode. So human!

She changed and grew from her experiences. She grew. (Hate to sound so therapist-y.) I adored the ending.

I definitely recommend this to fans of Holly, people who like to be a fly on the wall of celebrity life, especially in Vegas.

This book was awesome! Just as good as the first one but better! I love how she words things and tells the story. Holly will keep you glued to the book from page 1. This book is how she managed to escape the horrible lifestyle of the Playboy mansion and into this amazing life she made for herself. It was a journey that she made you feel you had taken with her. I only wish that she would have gone into how she met her husband and how she found out she was pregnant. I NEED more info! I love reading her books.

I was extremely disappointed with this book. I very much enjoyed 'Down the Rabbit Hole' as it was a thorough documentation of Holly's mansion experience. However, the second I read the disclaimer inside 'The Vegas Diaries' that names and such had been altered, I was immediately let down. It's difficult to determine which individuals were fabricated and which were just exaggerated and renamed. The book just doesn't feel authentic or accurate. Some parts seem completely made up and she continuously portrays herself as an introvert. She barely touches on the characters from Holly's World and makes it seem like she expected to quit Peepshow when she did, even though we all know it's because she got pregnant and married. I was just horribly disappointed with this book. Hopefully her future books and "recollections" are better.

Holly Madison. You've done it again. I first became a fan of Holly on the girls next door. I could tell she was a nerd and just trying to find where she fit in. When she came out with her first book I devoured it. A truthful look at the Playboy empire. And a fascinating perspective on the female psych of what is perceived to be "the dream life." Holly- I remember messaging you on Instagram expressing my respect for your honesty and building the courage to find your truth and you responded. <3 Another book that tells the truth of what so many of us see as the perfect Vegas dream life fantasy. She's a normal girl who wants to best for herself and isn't shy about admitting her real life story and struggles.

this book was a fast read. it just took me 1 yr to finish it. I had a good time reading this book. it is crazy that holly and I live two different lives but somehow I totally related to how she feels. that just mean we all share the same pain. learning to let go and to.forgive yourself. thank you for writing this book. you don't owe anyone any explanation about your past. you had to do what you need to do girl.

Another great novel from the always darling Holly Madison. In this book she goes on to talk about her life after the mansion and her experiences with her new circle of friends in Las Vegas. She shares funny dating stories and gives all the details about how she was able to turn her life around and make a new name for herself. She really did take Vegas by storm and became a very successful career woman. I think this book would be inspiring to any woman who was told that she couldn't and then went out and did.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE VEGAS DIARIES-HOLLY MADISON, LINGUA INGLESE
Reviewed in Italy on May 30, 2017

Not as good as her first, but still pretty good. It's mostly her complaining about how hard it is to be considered Hugh's ex.
