Disney+ has put a spell on your Tuesday morning, courtesy of the first teaser trailer for its upcoming Hocus Pocus sequel.
Hocus Pocus 2 will reunite Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the witchy Sanderson sisters, who make an appearance — albeit a brief, shadowy one — at the end of the teaser embedded above. “Lock up your children!” Midler’s Winifred announces. “Yes, Salem, we’re back!”
Per the official synopsis, Hocus Pocus 2 takes place 29 years after the events of the beloved 1993 original, and Winifred, Sarah and Mary — witches that were executed in the 17th century — are looking for revenge. “Now it is up to three high school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve,” the logline reads.
As for the sequel’s release date, you won’t have to wait until Halloween to start streaming: The film drops Friday, Sept. 30.
In addition to its trio of leading ladies, Hocus Pocus 2 stars Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Sam Richardson (Veep), Doug Jones (Star Trek: Discovery), Tony Hale (Veep), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl), Belissa Escobedo (The Baker and the Beauty), Lilia Buckingham (Dirt) and Froylan Gutierrez (Cruel Summer).
Check out the sequel’s new teaser above, then hit the comments with your first impressions!
I feel like this movie would have been great in theaters. Strange it’s going straight to Disney plus. Either way I’m gonna watch it and I can’t wait!
I agree, this could have been a big money maker in theaters for Disney.
Safer to bring this classic to Disney+. They thought Lightyear would do well and it is doing okay, but not meeting expectations. Family movies since the pandemic began have not done well. Instead of taking the chance, they are focusing on their new medium of streaming.
As a 36 year old – I could not be more excited for this!!
Wasn’t there already an official sequel to first one albeit in novel form????? Does that one not count anymore? Does this not count? Which is the true sequel?
All the original cast wanted to return, but disney went the W O K E way
What does this even mean?
The original cast did return. And there are new characters, as most sequels have. Is it because two of those new characters are people of color? Or what? What exactly does “W O K E” even mean to you?
Leave this place.
It is not even about that. Salem Mass looks a lot different today then it did 30 years ago. Populations change and Disney is just reflecting that. Some things are just logic but people like you have to go and make it political.
Unless someone is direct quoting someone else who used the term “WOKE” the ONLY people I’ve seen use it are 100% complaining that the show/movie brought in people who are not straight whites. The original revolved around children and teenagers battling the witches so it makes sense the sequel would be bring in a new generation of teens–would you be complaining if the new teen actors were all white?
Do you mean Thora Birch, Omri Katz and Vinessa Shaw? I would love to see them too, but that doesn’t mean the new cast members aren’t just as good. Lighten up.
I hate wokeness too but diversity, in and of itself, is NOT inherently wokeness.
TBH what I am most looking forward to in this sequel is the return of the always amazing Doug Jones reprising his role as Billy Butcherson.
I’m looking forward to seeing Doug Jones as well. I think they could/should have squeezed the “kids” in the movie in somewhere in the new film. Looking forward to it. It was hilarious and the music was awesome.
Thora Birch (Dani) originally was going to return but had to bow out de to scheduling conflicts.
I’m an adult and I cannot wait for this. Huzzah!
I’m very excited for this!!!
Politics has spoiled everything it touches, so alas, I and mine won’t be seeing this sequel….We can thank Midler and Disney for that.
4 main characters are back but the rest didn’t and longer exist are Max his sister Dani & Allison because they don’t know how to focus correctly max played by Omir Katz quit acting Dani played by Thora Birch who sucked she does the same thing in Monkey Trouble, The Hole, & Patriot Games even Allison played by Vinessa Shaw from Ladybugs who thinks she can stop it but she knows nothing without understanding. their personalities are the opposites of Oscar Diggs, Glinda the good witch, & Little China Girl from Oz the great & powerful, John Spartan & Lenina Huxley from Demolition Man, with Thackery Binx Howard T Duck & Beverly Switzler from Howard the Duck movie, & Clifford with Debra & the Spice Girls themselves in Spice World . Max is the opposite version of Steven M. Kovacs from The Cably Guy & Jack from speed, Dani is the opposite of Reva Cody from Streets of Fire/Road to Hell, & Allison is the version of Alex price from An American Werewolf in London.
Iv waited years for this, hopefully it lives up to the first movie as often the sequels can be a bit of a let down. Looking forward to watching this popcorn at the ready.
