Hello everyone - something you might like:
I made a high-res terrain map of Azeroth, Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms and each individual zone - click here to download the full-size image.
The maps are composed from the highest resolution minimap graphics which I exported from the game client and are compressed to lossless .PNG format.
The biggest map is like 90MB so it might be a bit slow to load, sorry :)
Hopefully these will be useful for content creators and anyone who needs a detailed minimap-style representation of the terrain. Enjoy!
UPDATE 16TH APRIL: Fixed the 3.0 features - they no longer appear in the maps so this is now 1.12 accurate.

Barrens is huge.
I made one of these as well, and I have it hosted on a local server with openlayer and a leaflet version, where I was working on incorporating a leveling guide onto it.
Having a browser based, zoomable, searchable, seamless map is pretty handy. Especially with a built in guide.
The one I created is more of a vanilla map, too (ie no stormwind harbor, 1.12 content and earlier). I didn't want to release it, since I don't have the guide finished.
There are a ton of these already out there (I've seen like 3 posted in the past few months). A few of the guys have guides how to make it, which are really interesting.
Here's some more info for interested people that I've compiled in researching the topic to create my own a few months back:

Number 7 looks very similar to ops, even when it says it's the vanilla map, it includes the sw harbor.

looking at map from vanilla, it always bothers me to see how much potential the map still has for new zones and content on the two first continents

I don't remember so many things of last week but looking at that 15year old map I know every corner of those beautiful continents. And I'm a casual scrub. This game really is something special.
There are many and big unexplored areas, I hope for new content there with classic game design after phase 6.
I'm not sure if that's a good idea because by Naxx people are so overpowered that PvE is the only content that works. Already by AQ can dps classes one-shot eachother and by Naxx it's just a race for whoever strikes first. The gear and stat reset during TBC was desperately needed.
That said I would love for a separate server to come along with new content. Maybe throw in Karazhan as a 20-man or expand some of the zones. Hell even make the zones complete like in Cataclysm while keeping the vanilla gameplay and style.
There are so many options which is why I kinda want Blizzard to just release the vanilla IP and let people run private servers like mods. Would be so cool.
I think they could release new content without it being endgame content. That would be the best way to do it.

It existed behind the gate apparently but you couldn't get there without wall-jumping (which won't work in Classic).I'm wrong. Updated 16th April now shows the correct version of Stormwind!
It didn't - I swam from Menethil to Westfall countless times - never encountered it.
Same with the Deathknight starting area, which is also on this map.
Ontop of that both areas have several assets that did not exist up until 3.0
Yet there is no Quel Thalas/Danas. Just very confusing, is all :D
Holy shit, well spotted! Will have to edit out the DK starting area... must have got the wotlk tiles for those zones by accident. my bad.
Edit: Update 16th April now no longer showing the DK starting area!
Durotar also has that second zeppelin tower for the Borean Tundra and Thunder Bluff added in 3.0.
I legit thought I was losing my mind looking at this before reading your comment. I farmed Tyr's hand at least 2-3 times a week in vanilla and when I saw the map i was like, DA FUQ IS THAT?!
Not taking a dig at the map btw, it's fantastic, just had a bit of an internal crises thinking I didn't know the map as well as I thought I did.
The Blood Elf zones were in their own separate server. It's why you phase when you travel there. Possibly part of outland somehow?
I don't think that's true, because otherwise you could've just swum up there from Westfall. The same goes for the Acherus terrain behind Tyr's Hand which I think shouldn't be there.
Great map though, I love scrolling around and discovering things!

Will have to space out both landmasses a bit though because as you can see they're quite close together (on purpose to save on file size).

This literally ruined MoP. I had quit before Cata released, and midway through MoP I tried to come back because some friends were still playing. I couldn't stand it though, because MoP was just... so wrong...

yes, but it was very buggy. I used it around 2015, sorry don't know any details because I switched to one of the 2 map addons everybody was using. If you find one of those torrents with 2000 vanilla wow addons it should be in there.
I can't think of names but there have been map mods that did this. Some worked better than others. I don't know if they had them back in vanilla, but they were definitely a thing in later expansions. Assuming we get a more modern, up to date API, there will almost certainly be at least one for classic.
I believe the Carbonite addon included a map like this.

This is very well done.
What it highlights to me, though, is that Blizzard didn't do a very good job of blending the borders of the zones together. It's a very immediate and sometimes drastic change of landscape that unfortunately makes the entire thing look really pieced together, like a puzzle, instead of an organic world.
Nothing you did wrong OP, this is fantastic, just an observation your work helps highlight that I find interesting.

Hey, fantastic maps. Looking forward to when you remove Storm wind Harbour and Acherus. Where is the Than'dol Span that sits between Arathi Highlands and Wetlands?
I was excited and nostalgic to see many things I recognised. Did anyone else go through, zone by zone, saying, 'Yep, that was there'? So amazing seeing Thousand Needles as it was, Barrens unsplit and the whole of Stranglethorn Vale. :)
Fixed acherus/SW/durotar and dalaran today. Should be up to date now :)
I wish Blizzard gave the world its own name rather than changing Azeroth to Stormwind.

Not to sound like a buzzkill... But couldn't that have just been extracted from the Carbonite add-on who did it over a decade ago?
What I like most about this map is that it takes about as long to download as any image file did back when WoW released.

Well this is embarrassing. Looking at the Aszhara map, I never noticed there was an area inside the mountain south of the main road...
I don't know whats there, and what its for. But now I must explore it come classic. This cannot stand any longer.
Can we have a classic map with names of areas, flight path hubs and leveling range? I will use it as cheat sheet wallpaper while I level up.
I mean, I see that it's bigger; I know it is, and yet Ashenvale still feels longer to run from end-to-end than The Barrens.

Is this still available for download anywhere? The download link goes to the main site for Warcraft tavern but it doesn’t bring up the map or results when searching. Azeroth Atlas’s tool on the site isn’t a seamless map which is what I’m looking for.
