I wish someone had written a review about the reality of this place, because then I could have saved myself $187. I'm writing this review so others can make a better decision on whether or not they want to stay here. We stayed here for one night in August. PROS: Cabin is very well insulated, great for winter. CONS: (1) no dropbox for the key when you check out before they arrive in the office, we left at 6 am so our only option was locking the key in the room (2) no deadbolt on the door (3) no smoke detector (4) no air conditioner (we were roasting in the room at 85 degrees, and opening the windows and front door helped temporarily because we were choking on wildfire smoke) (5) filthy bathroom (see photos) the shower curtain was yellow and crusty with scum, the tub and sink were brown, I used a Clorox wipe and was able to clean off the dirt, so it wasn't mineral deposits (the toilet looked filthy too) (6) no bathroom fan switch, the fan was there but there was no way to turn it on (7) no television, not even local channels (8) no microwave (9) no fridge (10) stained sheets on the bed (11) porch lights didn't work (12) the water lines were full of air and every single time we used the sink, shower, or toilet, the water would sputter violently (13) the office closed and everyone left at 8 pm, but the email I got said they closed at 10 pm, so if you get there after 8 pm you might not be able to get a room.

We were booked for a family trip and needed to cancel due to an illness. Over the phone we were told we could cancel but it needed to be through the booking agency. When we contacted them it turns out it needed to be cancelled with the property all along. After days of being sent back and forth we were told we’re now outside of the range to cancel, despite the delays being waiting for canceling confirmation. Response from management was rude and we’re being charged in full for a trip that hasn’t happened yet. Do not stay here. Do yourself a favor and book with a less slimy establishment.

Ads as rv park . NO! Grounds are horribly kept. Full hook up offered, well must be dry, all we had was air and spitting water. Junky looking. Not at all like the pics. Overpriced. Left after one night. Ask for a refund, because of no water. Man at the desk argued and said we did have water. How rude! He said he would ask corporate...LOL! Who is that?
Oh and the restaurant... the cook was dripping sweat, so NO!

How can you run a property if you are not on-site? the answer is...you can't! The owners are nowhere to be found and there is absolutely no management. The restaurant usually has the cook taking orders, tending bar, working the register and cooking. One person cannot handle this! Nobody answers the phone and it looks like it is closed/abandoned from the outside. It was a good restaurant under the previous owner...it is sorely neglected.

I do not recommend staying here. We had a cabin #3. This is small, with seating for only two people even though it sleeps four. There is no AC and no fan in the bedroom. The bathroom is the tiniest I have ever seen. Everything is cheap and old. There is an amazing view out back but absolutely no space to sit and enjoy the view. There was no possibility to be outside the cabin. The place is surrounded by private property that you have no access to. Note: the space between the cabins is filled with RVs. The staff treated us like a problem to be overcome rather than a welcome guest. Very disappointing. We will leave early.

I would NOT recommend

I was appalled to see a big bumper sticker on the fridge behind the bar ( bar is a communal area with the restaurant and gift shop) that says I (heart emoji) Mormon P****y. Unbelievable! I had to go to the bar to pick up my room key. Besides that, the pillows were lumpy and hard, there is no coffee pot or hot water device, and the motel is very noisy due to snow machines coming in as late as 1 am. I would NOT stay here again!

We stayed in one of the cabins. It was rundown, dirty (including dirty sheets and leftover garbage upon arrival), the twin beds were in a loft, in which you can’t stand up, and there is no breakfast or even coffee (closest place is 18 miles away). And, the heater didn’t work. Marty, the manager, and his sidekick, Andreus, were great though and tried to remedy what they could.

Extremely disappointing Lodging, very far from everything. No AC, no Cable TV, no room service was provided. Restaurant opens 11am so no breakfast. Front desk closes at 8pm and restaurant at 9 so then after you are in the middle of no where at dark. Gas Pumps are out of order, and Guest service does not exist. Its Manager Thomas is a very abusive individual that argues with guests and employees at all times. I would never choose nor recommend this property never in my life

Pretty neat little place on the way to Yellowstone. Basic rooms but has everything you need. Nice restaurant next it that has excellent pizza. Convenience store also attached that has the essentials. Waterfall right down the road from it. Much cheaper than the competition. Good mountain views for dinner.

We stayed at lava Mountain Lodge during snowmobile season in February. The first three days we stayed in a lodge room. The experience was so positive we rented a Park Model Cabin for the second week. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. The cabin was even better with lots of room and a great heater for drying our gear every night. The lodge was located in a great spot with mountains all around and great access to multiple trails. The food was excellent, especially Prime Rib Wednesday and Fish Fry Friday. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to create a wonderful experience. James the owner ran into town and got us parts when a sled broke down. And you definitely want to meet Cowboy Jim, a real cowboy who runs the shop. He insists you pull your machines into the heated shop to make repairs and gives you tips and advice on places to go and things to see. Great scenery and even better people. We'd stay there again for sure.
