- Tanner HNew Braunfels, Texas2 contributionsVery nice. May is a slow time and some businesses are closed to recover after winter ski seasonMain Street was great. We came in early may and it was a different feel for sure. Everything was slower and most places are in between winter and summer operations. Some businesses are closed. It was still nice to walk around!Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 1, 2023
- msa23_2000Chino Hills, California1,479 contributionsIt’s a little too big so it loses some of its charmAfter traveling through some quaint towns to get here (like Buena Vista and Leadville) this Main Street just seems too big and commercial, not as charming as other Rocky Mountain towns. Lots of people, although there is a lot to do. Better to get off and walk in the old historic district.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 18, 2023
- bjia34Marion, Iowa65 contributionsGood Way To Spend An AfternoonLots of neat shops and restaurants as many people have mentioned. It's built for tourists but for some reason does not feel overly "touristy". The cafes and restaurants are all different and have their own niches and local flair. If you have a mixed party (men, women, kids, etc.) there is something for everyone and a good way to spend a relaxing afternoon if your tired from outdoor activities. Some of the clothing is a little over priced but that's to be expected in a spot like this.Visited August 2023Written August 26, 2023

Besides being a beautiful little town, main street Breckenridge has lots of shopping options and restaurants. There is reasonably priced street parking that may or may not be available. There are national brand shops (Marmot, Patagonia, Helly Hanson, etc.), tshirt and souvenir shops, spas, and locally owned shops. There are local coffee shops, breakfast restaurants, and some restaurants with bars.

The closing of Main Street to allow more seating for Breckenridge restaurants was a wonderful idea. Not only did this allow adding dining for restaurant, it also made it easier to social distance during COVID. The shops were unique and excellent that offered a large variety of stores. A very nice Main Street.

We understand wearing masks inside buildings. But when walking down a street while social distancing, you should be able to use common sense and not have to wear a mask at all times. Especially in a high altitude and with a heavy smoke atmosphere from the fires. It makes it very hard for people with breathing conditions like asthma to breathe.

We were in Breckenridge last week. I love walking up and down Main St visiting the little shops, tasting the brews. The one thing I would like to recommend is more businesses putting their street numbers on the front by their door. We had addresses of several places we wanted to visit but without street numbers it was hard to find them.

Love downtown Breck with all the shops and restaurants! We love supporting local businesses. Unfortunately, Main Street is so popular the sidewalks are often very crowded. Reservations recommended at restaurants. Love how Main Street is decorated with lights in the winter!

There are a few cheap T shirt and tourist shops selling things from China but there are also fantastic art shops, amazing fossil and photography shops, and high quality outerwear, angling, and skiing shops. It would be hard to visit all of them in one day. The variety is great and there are lots of small eateries along the way.

A great variety of shops and restaurants, usually very busy. It was much more enjoyable than Estes Park's main drag as far as quality of shopping and food. Though most of the meals we had along Main Street were not great and were fairly expensive. Did not find any real deals on clothing in the shops.

Pedestrian Main Street appears to be a success..... If more cars would use French St. entering and exiting town for whatever reason, Park St. would be less congested I surmise. While crowds appear down due to Covid-19, walking shoulder to shoulder on sidewalks was absent! Good for Breck. Heard pedestrian Main will carry on through Sept.. Hope it returns Summer 2021 with or without Covid.......

Main Street Breckenridge is shut down to vehicles and is a mandatory mask area. Many of the restaurants have seating in the street. It's like a farmers market / street fare vibe. Is was nice just being able to walk around freely and not worry about traffic. There was plenty of parking behind main street. Use the parking app to pay, it was so easy and reminds you on your phone when your parking time is about to expire.

Main in Breckenridge is must do if you plan to visit. The street has been conveniently blocked off to allow increased room for foot traffic. Paid parking is ample on the river side of main. 30 minute parking can be found on the other side.
You can obviously shop for mostly touristy things and eat at several restaurants. There are lots of dessert, coffee, and snack places here as well. Many of them are unique. Along main runs the river and some outdoor spaces to relax and take in Mountain View’s or enjoy live music.
A mask is required and the area can be busy. In my observation everyone complied with the mask rule and businesses required it anyways.
There is certainly something for everyone here.

Hi there, my family are coming to Breckenridge for a white Xmas. We are travelling from New Zealand. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips? Are the Ubers reliable? Cheap eats? What's open on Xmas day?

If we are looking to stay in Breckenridge from 22-27 December 2019 with our kids can you suggest if there's a certain strip/road we should stay on or is anywhere in Breckenridge good... I'd like to try to stay somewhere with 2 bedrooms as it is Christmas and want it to feel special being we're travelling from Sydney, Australia

You really can't go wrong wherever you stay. We've been twice in summer, but I imagine Christmas is beautiful. Where you stay really depends on what you are looking for. The town is small, there is a free trolley, and some properties have free shuttles to get you where you need to go. Search for lodging based on your priorities. Would you prefer to ski in and out? walk less than 5 mins to the slopes? stay on a shuttle route? Recommendation: you do not want to drive if you don't have to. Parking is difficult. Stay at a property with free parking, and only move the car if you need to go to the grocery store. If skiing is not your thing, I'd recommend Main Street Station. Google Vacation Rentals By Owner -- we found our condo through that site at a much cheaper rate. You can also rent at Main Street Station through Wyndham Vacations. Once you identify a few properties that sound good to you, come back to TripAdvisor and search through customer reviews. Best of luck!

I can second Debbie C's recommendation, but it's actually called "GRAND Timber Lodge" (not Great). It IS however a great place!! Year before last, we had a wonderful condo there, and a great deal through VRBO, in the late-season, and enjoyed it immensely. ...Awesome amenities (hot tub's a gotta-do!), and if you rent skis on-site, you can ski right out & back in.. Easy! ...Be sure to be back at 4:00pm daily, for some billiards, and free fresh-baked cookies every afternoon! Yum.
This year we stayed at Chesette's Lodge, in Alma, CO...about 29 mins from Breck. Also a VERY nice place (and very great deal), if you don't mind the drive into town.
If you do that, the best plan is plan is to park near the Breck Connect Gondola; ride it up; then catch either the Independence or Rocky Mountain Superchair to the trails of your choice.
NOTE: If you work your way all the way over to Peak 8 (or further), through the day, there's a little-known secret that you can take the 4 O'clock run right straight back to the Gondola parking lot, where there's a walk-thru to your car! ...Handy to know if you're coming back down, during the 4:00pm "rush-hour". You won't have to wait, in the e-n-d-l-e-s-s line, for the Gondola ride back down!! wink! ;-)
...You can Google a trail map to see what I mean (can't post a link-sorry)
Hope you have a great trip! Breck is my #1 favorite ski resort...the *people* are always really friendly, the resort staff & management do a *terrific* job, the views are stunning, and the skiing is absolutely world class!
Blessings...and hope this helps!
PS - The food & drinks are wildly expensive on the slopes! They're good! ...But, either bring your credit card, or bring a bag lunch! :-)

Not many nice places to stay on main st. I recommend staying on the mountain at one of the lodges. There is a free gondola 🚠down to main st. It’s only a 6-7 minute ride.

Unsure about this. But from most of the mountains they have the ski lifts to take you down into town. We had a car but only used it for trips to other areas of Colorado.

I will be in Denver the week before Christmas and would love to take a side trip to Breckenridge. Are there other ways to get there for a day trip besides renting a car and praying the roads are clear?

Yes. There are numerous shuttle services from DIA, and there is a much cheaper bus (The Bustang) that goes from downtown Denver to Frisco twice and day. Frisco is the next town over from Breck, and there are easily accessible free buses that go from Frisco to Breckenridge.

Sorry for the late reply. If you are looking for snow I’m not sure there will be any. If what you want are the sights and to see the pretty little town probably yes. We are planning to go back to Colorado in the autumn to see the change of leaves. It most be breathtaking.
