Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Nestled near top attractions like the Banff Gondola, Rimrock Resort Hotel delights guests with its convenient location and free shuttle service. The hotel's rooms are often celebrated for their spaciousness and views, though some travelers suggest they could benefit from updates. While service is typically friendly and attentive, it can occasionally be inconsistent. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with a commendable level of upkeep in rooms and facilities, including the SPA. The atmosphere is welcoming, accented by a majestic fireplace and indoor pool, yet some guests feel that the high prices don't always equate to value, citing the need for modernized amenities.

We arrived very late to the Rimrock but were quickly checked in and off to our rooms. We were a family of six in three different rooms, three different price points. Each room was lovely and it was hard to understand why one was more expensive than another but all were satisfied with their lodgings. The bed in our room was extremely comfortable and when the sun finally arose in the morning, we were treated to a magnificent view of the Canadian Rockies.

An issue I had with pricing was quickly resolved to my satisfaction and the staff at the Rimrock were attentive to our needs while there.

Keep in mind that one needs to take a shuttle to get into the village of Banff and while the shuttle is free, it operates every 40 minutes. Still not really an issue for being high in the mountains with 360 degree views. One thing I would like to have seen offered would be snowshoes, either to rent or borrow. There are a couple trails right near the hotel that would have been more easily navigated if we had them. Otherwise, you have to go into Banff and rent them there. Would have been a nice perk. Like the skating rink that was recently installed, not sure if they made skates available but two things that might put the Rimrock on the top of everyone's list.

The food was quite good but we had other dinner destinations so can't completely speak to the variety, quality, presentation, etc. Breakfast in the Primrose was very good but as I usually have oatmeal, we did not partake of the buffet which looked diverse and extensive although we felt a little pricey for the amount that we eat.

We enjoyed out stay at the Rimrock, a lovely, clean, spacious resort nestled high above the village of Banff.

I stayed at the Rimrock this past weekend for a girls trip, we had a suite and the room and hotel were GORGEOUS. The view from everywhere in the hotel seemed spectacular. The room had two queen beds, a sofa bed, two bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs, two fridges, it was perfect for the three of us. the staff were amazing, friendly, courteous and prompt. It seemed like anything we could have needed they had already thought of. Your room key gives you access to the Banff Roam buses acting as a transit pass and works perfectly to get you into town from the hotel.

COVID Specific

The hotel was on top of everything in relations to COVID, they had floor markings, plexi glass, masks, sanitizer was everywhere. They had made some alterations to the in room amenities being taken out for hygenic reasons however you were able to request the removed items and they were promptly delivered. When we visited the pool was open with limited capacity but not the hot tub, when we asked why the difference a very polite bell hop explained the hot waters create more bacteria which makes complete sense. You can tell everyone is trying their best and doing what they can. While they encourage guests to wear masks I would say most were not.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience after your recent girls' weekend! We are over the moon that we were able to play a small part in your trip of fun and delight! We truly appreciate you providing insight into your stay from both a service aspect as well as from our current COVID situation. We are happy to be able to provide our guests with continuation of most comforts, even if they are in a different way ~ and are proud our service is still best in class. We will add to your comment regarding masks; since this review, our Town of Banff bylaw has been updated to reflect a mandatory mask-wearing in all indoor location/public spaces. This does mean that it is mandatory to wear a mask in all open guest areas including the lobby when visiting us, for now. Thank you and Stay Safe, Rimrock Resort Hotel Management Team

Our family of 5 had the pleasure of staying at the Rimrock Resort Hotel in Banff. From the moment we walked in, we knew this place was special. Friendly, helpful staff at all levels, very willing to share local knowledge and make recommendations. When we walked into our room, we all gasped - the view was beyond anything else we'd ever seen! The Canadian rockies are simply stunning, and our large room had a balcony that felt like we were inside the mountains. The beds were comfortable, and the room was SO quiet. We loved getting to know some of the staff, it's a true international location with people from all over the world. We loved Barbora at the Primrose, Richard at the Concierge desk and Kris who drove us to the town one night and picked us up, too. Breakfast was included with our stay and large portions of everything filled us up before heading to the ski hills. We will definitely be back, and soon, I hope!

We stayed here with our kids at the beginning of March (beginning of the Covid-19). I’ll admit we got a deal on this hotel, but it sure wasn’t worth a penny more.
Rooms were small and dated. They were clean, but in a hotel that boasts its views ours was of a wall and parkade (see photos). Our room had the usual overpriced water and snacks in it, but the one flavored water was over a month expired, and the one container of Pringle’s has the seal broken on it already (we informed the front desk, but they were never replaced).
The Primrose restaurant is priced like a 4 star hotel ($20+ for an omelette) although I will say it was a decent size and tasty. However there was dried food splattered up the wall next to our table (photo) and when they are emphasizing increased hygiene due to Covid, this should have been cleaned on a regular day. The Primrose washroom even boasted dried blood on the wall of the women’s washroom (I’m guessing it wasn’t from a cut on a finger either. Again, photo).
The pool was nice, but the loungers were old and falling apart (photo). Not what I expect from a 4 star hotel.
My wife has a service dog, and to them that meant we had to be in the pet section, with barking dogs. I understand their thinking, but if they vacuum the room it removes the allergy issue. So she got punished and denied a regular room for her disability.
I will say all of the staff were friendly and very helpful. I really can’t say a bad word about them, especially in a time when that industry could be going sideways they were nothing but professional, so bravo to them.
In all it was Ok, some poor hygiene, But I’ve stayed at better Best Westerns.

We had a lovely 2 night stay at this hotel, we were booked into a premium room. The room was comfortable with fantastic views of the mountains, although the decor is a bit dated and could do with a refurbishment.

The Rimrock is well situated to visit the hot springs, and as it is a bit of a walk to the town they provide a complementary 3 day bus pass. The buses stop directly outside the hotel so are easy to utilise.

There are a number of restaurants on site so if you don't want to go off site eating is easy. We ate in the Larkspur lounge area which was lovely with a real open fire and comfortable seating. The food was tasty & well cooked. We ate breakfast in the Primrose restaurant which again was delicious & plentiful with good choice although prices are obviously more than if you eat in town.

As the hotel pool & spa were closed during our stay for maintenance we were given passes to use at the hot spring across the road.

All in all a lovely stay.

My husband and I visit Rimrock Resort Hotel usually twice per year, in the off season. It's nice that Banff is just a short drive from Calgary and Rimrock is about 7 minutes from town, providing lots of opportunities for hiking and exploring.

This 2 night stay was in celebration of our birthdays. Our room was lovely with beautiful views of the valley and north side of the hotel - sitting in our room enjoying wine while enjoying the view is one of the reasons we chose this property.

The food and atmosphere at the Larkspur Lounge is another highlight. The wood fireplace was roaring and did it's job to keep us cozy and warm. We missed the piano player on Friday night as we were told she would be playing but wasn't. The Diva Lounge is open Friday and Saturday nights but we didn't stop in this time.

Breakfast at Primrose Dining Room (buffet) was included in our stay and was delicious - more than enough food and choices for us. Again, we enjoy the "to go" cups provided for your coffee. Service was outstanding. The coffee shop is a great place to pick up snacks/chocolate, sandwiches, coffee or souvenirs.

The hotel provided transit tickets are great to use to go to and from the Banff townsite. It's easy to time your visit by using the schedule provided. If you do miss the bus, it's only a short 7 minute taxi ride up.

Conveniently located a short walk away to the Sulphur Mountain Gondola as well as the Banff Hot Springs.

We will continue to stay at the Rimrock Resort Hotel when we stay in Banff.

Elegant, secluded hotel with a breathtaking view. We stayed in a Premium Mountain View Room. Both the room and private balcony are very large. The king size bed is very comfortable. There is a coffee maker, kettle and a good size mini fridge in the room. The washroom is a little small and can use some upgrading. There are cracks in the marble around the sink as well as in the flooring. Overall, it is a very comfortable room.

Limited parking is available at an additional cost.

The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly.

In regard to their Covid-19 efforts, the resort has hand sanitizer everywhere, limits the elevator to 2 people or 1 household and requires masks in all public spaces. Housekeeping is suspended for the time being, but you can request extra towels and other amenities as required. They are brought to the room and hung in a bag on the exterior door handle.

Room service was quick. We ordered wings and nachos one night. The food was good, and the price was reasonable.

We ate breakfast one morning in the Primrose Restaurant. There is a buffet and an à la carte option. The buffet is staffed so that people do not have to serve themselves. The food was good, especially their mushroom omelet.

The resort is a 5-minute drive to the downtown area. You could walk it, but it is a winding, steep road with no sidewalk.

We would stay here again.

Finally got to have a quick 3 night/4 day getaway in Banff with our 12 year old son. We love the location of the Rimrock as it is up Sulfur Mountain near the gondola, but still close to the town centre. Although there is a $22.00 per day parking fee, the hotel provides transit passes which allow you to use the local transit buses which stop at the hotel approximately every 20 minutes. The rooms are spacious and clean and suited our needs. The pool and fitness centre is great and we appreciated the final hour is reserved for "adults only". Food is wonderful, a little pricey (which wasn't a surprise), but the portions for kids were really large and could be reduced by half. My biggest recommendation to the resort would be to add charging ports or stations in the rooms for electronics given everyone has a phone or an electronic device that needs charging these days. The only option they had was to leave your device with the concierge desk who could charge it for you. (not something we were comfortable with)

I don't even know where to begin. The hotel looks nondescript from the outside but once you go inside, it's beautiful. The "ground floor" of the hotel where you arrive is actually the 7th floor. We stayed in a Grandview Suite and our view was absolutely beautiful. There was a nightly turn down service where they would leave bottles of water for you (so don't pay for the ones in the room).

The lobby was warm and inviting and while we didn't get to try most of the restaurants there, we did have the breakfast buffet at the Larkspur. The breakfast buffet was quite expensive ($32 CAD pp) but they did have plenty of options. 10/10 would return.

My stay at the Rimrock was nothing short of excellent. I was traveling solo and was looking to have a trip where I could truly rest and relax while still exploring Banff a bit.

Location
First the location was excellent for the activities I did want to participate in. It was only a 5 minute walk to both the Gondola and the Upper Hot Springs. While there is a shuttle to and from town the convenience of being within walking distance allowed more flexibility to go whenever I wanted and I found myself avoiding the crowds that made the trip all at once by the shuttle.

The Room
Because I was looking for a place to relax sort of away from town the Rimrock seemed like an obvious choice. Upon arriving I was happily surprised at the silence and serenity of the area. This peace was also present in my room. Though I booked the cheapest option my accommodations were nothing short of luxurious and while I had a "obstructed view" upon opening my blinds to the March 2020 super moon I was astounded at how beautiful the mountains and view were.

The Spa
I cannot rave enough about the spa and associates who helped me on my visit. Like on a scale of 1 to 10 my experience was easily a 20. Paige was incredibly friendly knowledgeable and helpful in booking my treatments and Adele was easily the BEST therapist I've ever had. I felt so good afterwards. I initially booked the Volcanic Mud Wrap and the Therapeutic Massage and both were amazing so much so that at the end of my visit I decided to add a pedicure and lucky for me it was a mid-week special. From start to finish my spa day was phenomenal and better than I could have hoped for. If whoever is in charge is reading this these to deserve a raise or at the very least some kind of exceptional service award. I've had quite a few spa treatments in my time but this experience hands down was the best and will be hard to top.

The Dining
During my stay I tried a few of the options the cafe had nice breakfast sandwiches. Dinner at the Larkspur was also surprisingly good. I enjoyed the oricchette pasta and while a bit unexpected the addition of the pistachios were quite good. My absolute favorite though was Wednesday night Pasta Night at the Primrose. Think gourmet pasta buffet Living in the NYC area. I've eaten A LOT of pasta in my time but the rose pasta they made was easily the best I've had. Sandy my server was great. He very attentive and offered great drink suggestions.

All in all this place was amazing and if I'm in Banff again I will definitely be staying here again!

It probably depends on which mountain / ski resort you are planning to visit. Some roads, like to Lake Moraine, can get totally clogged up by start of Oct. However, I would suggest you should wait until at least the end of November to get the snow base built up. I would strongly recommend checking with the ski hill you plan to visit to get their prediction on when it's safe to ski.
