Nice walk for all and opportunity to see multiple historic sites and enjoy food in the city.

Too hot for the walk but there was some shade around. Not too much to see in my opinion. But still a nice stroll.

Easy trail to walk. A lot of history along this walk. If you are here for the first time, I recommend this walk.

I thoroughly enjoyed Old City, especially Congress & Independence Halls, Ben Franklin's printing press, and the Revolutionary War Museum. But those are museums. The walk between them wasn't anything special and this is a hiking review, so I guess the right rating is 3 stars?

historic walk

I was hoping this would be similar to the freedom trail in Boston. It is not.. This is a walk on city sidewalks AROUND THE PERIMETER of the national historic sites in Philly. Do yourself a favor, ignore this route, and wslk THROUGH the historic areas.

There needs to be longer guides in Philly. Maybe I'll make one. Still great for those who are looking for a quick history hike. Well done!

Great route!! So many great sites. Nice for a couple on a date or family experience.

Be careful on this urban hike. You will spend so much money purchasing items at the local shops along the way. It’s more of a romantic stroll than it is a hike. Definitely do this one with someone you like.

Added Washington Square Park too!

I wouldn't include "guide" in the description of this trail, but its a nice path to follow if you're visiting and not sure where to wander around for an hour.

A short walk through history that is a stretch to call a hike. Unfortunately everything is closed due to COVID-19 but can still see the exterior buildings and read the signage. However giving the trail anything less than 5 stars seems a bit unpatriotic.

Nice historic urban walk!

My family and I walked about 1/2 of this trail, reading about five of the yellow dots together out loud. My two school aged daughters appreciated the history lesson and I appreciated the hints along the way of how much things cost, and what was “free.” We deviated from the tour in several places, like Franklin museum and the print making museum. We also entered the Second Bank of Philadelphia Ann’s Carpenter Hall. Overall, it was a great experience. Not at all disappointing and a fun family day.

This is the best walk in Philly taking you to all the major historic attractions. I extend it to the harbor and we walk along the river exploring Independence Seaport museum as well. I like it that Chinatown is nearby on Arch street as well so we went there for dinner.

Very interesting and full of important places. Lots of important history.

This historical walk is only good if you're a tourist, a Philadelphian that never stepped out of their zip code or just prefer the concrete jungle over the real beauty of mother nature.

Frequently asked questions about Guide to Historical Philadelphia

What are some tips to share about Guide to Historical Philadelphia?

Parking: There is on the street, kiosk-paid parking, but that's limited to 2 hours ($5) per transaction, not nearly enough to tour all 10 points of interest and get in a meal. Instead, safe parking underneath the Visitor Center is relatively inexpensive and places you right where you want to be to start the tour. Plus it saves you from running back to the kiosk every two hours! Hydration: Drink plenty of water. If you forgot your water bottle, you can purchase bottled water at your first stop, the Independence Visitor Center. There's a snack bar on site, good for grab and go if you forgot to eat breakfast. Foot Care: You'll be doing a lot of walking. Wear comfortable shoes. Meals: If you're interested in a mid-tour lunch break, there are a variety of restaurants on Market Street. Favorites include Lulu's Pizza Bar, Mac's Tavern, Soho Pizza, Campo's (for traditional Philadelphia cheesesteaks!) and the Continental Diner. Over on Independence Mall, the Bourse offers a food court with such offerings as a Saladworks, a Grande Olde Cheesesteak and a China Express.
