As we wait with bated breath for Mirzapur Season 2, Amazon Prime Video has announced a slew of new Indian movies coming to the platform starting October 15, 2020. They range from much-awaited films like Coolie No 1, Soorarai Pottru and Chhalaang. These upcoming Indian movies on Amazon Prime Video will skip theatrical releases and premiere directly on the platform, as has been the norm for the majority of the films this year. With this line-up, Amazon is sure to give the other players a run for their money. We were already excited for all the great shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video releasing this month, but with these 9 movies, we all finally have something to look forward to in 2020.

1. Halal Love Story (Malayalam)
After Sufiyum Sujatayum and CU Soon, another Malayalam film is the first Amazon Prime Video that skipped a theatrical release for a direct-to-digital premiere. Directed by Zakariya Mohammed, the light-hearted family entertainer features Indrajith Sukumaran, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Joju George, among others. It tells the story of a group of passionate filmmakers who come together to create a movie that follows religious guidelines in every phase of the filmmaking and it results in hilarious chaos and confusion.

2. Bheema Sena Nalamaharaja (Kannada)
Foodies, this one is for you. Bheema Sena Nalamaharaja is an upcoming Kannada family entertainer directed by Karthik Saragur, where six characters are based on flavours like sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent. The movie stars Aravinnd Iyer, Aarohi Narayan, Priyanka Thimmesh, Achyuth Kumar and Aadya in leading roles.

3. Soorarai Pottru (Tamil)
Among the most awaited upcoming movies on Amazon Prime Video is Suriya’s Tamil film called Soorarai Pottru. It has been directed by Sidha Kongara and produced by the actor’s very own company, 2D Entertainment. It is being speculated that this film will tell the story of Captain GR Gopinath, who founded Air Deccan, India’s first low-cost headline. A report by the News Minute suggests that Amazon Prime Video may have secured the rights for this Suriya movie for a staggering ₹30-45 crore.

4. Chhalaang (Hindi)
Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao are combining forces once again, after Omerta, Shahid and CityLights. Chhalaang is set to be an inspirational social black comedy also featuring Nushrat Bharucha. It has been produced by Ajay Devgn, Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. We trust that this one will be really interesting to watch among all the movies on Amazon Prime Video.

5. Manne Number 13 (Kannada)
One more South Indian film is also set to join the roster of movies on Amazon Prime Video. Maane Number 13 is a horror thriller directed by Vivy Kathiresan. It features Varsha Bollamma, Aiswarya Gowda, Praveen Prem, Chetan Gandharva, and Ramana in pivotal roles.

6. Middle Class Melodies (Telugu)
While Vijay Deverakonda has been making waves in Telugu cinema, his brother Anand is making his way to the library of movies on Amazon Prime Video with this comedy film. Also featuring Varsha Bollamma, this film tells the whimsical tale depicting the congenial lives of the middle class in the village where a young man dreams of owning a hotel in a town. It has been directed by Vinod Anantoju.

Bollywood movies on Amazon Prime Video have always been the freshest. A new addition to this list comes in the form of Durgavati, featuring Bhumi Pednekar. The thriller movie follows the life of an innocent government officer, who becomes the victim of a major conspiracy involving some very powerful forces.

8. Maara (Tamil)
Now that we have our comedies, thrillers and horror films in place, it’s time to turn up the romance. Maara, an upcoming Tamil film, joins the movies on Amazon Prime Video in December. Directed by Dhilip Kumar, this film is set to feature Shraddha Srinath and R Madhavan, who recently made his debut on the platform with Nishabdham.

9. Coolie No. 1 (Hindi)
Varun Dhawan continues his streak of rehashing his fathers’ movies and this much talked about comedy is Amazon Prime Video’s Christmas present to you. This family comedy has an ensemble cast of Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan, Paresh Rawal, Javed Jaffrey, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav amongst others. Actor Jackky Bhagnani turns producer for this film, alongside his father and Deepshikha Deshmukh.
