The Hilton San Diego Bayfront garners praise for its prime location near the bay and Gaslamp District, with guests enjoying the stunning views and clean, modern atmosphere. While service receives mixed reviews, ranging from welcoming and efficient to unresponsive, travelers also express dissatisfaction with unexpected fees and the value offered. Rooms are generally appreciated for their cleanliness, though noise and outdated amenities have been points of concern, alongside occasional overbooking. Amenities are well-regarded, yet some suggest a need for updates, particularly in the bathrooms.

A wonderful hotel. I was here for a conference, and fell in love with this place. It is in a great location, and near everything. A great, friendly staff. I will definitely stay here when I'm back in town.

The front lobby and the conference rooms are clean and well kept. Staff was extremely polite and attentive. I was here for the 340B Coalition Winter Conference so the hotel was extremely full. The exterior was well maintained and pretty. When you get to the floors with the rooms however it's a different story. I was on the 28th floor and every single night I noticed there were trays of dirty dishes in the hallways on the floor from room service. They would still be sitting in the same exact spot until morning. There was an odd smell (sewage or moldy) in the hallway where my room was located. The bathroom was disgusting. Long stringy pieces of hair on the floor, the toilet, bathroom sink, in the bathtub, on the handle bar, all over the shower curtain, etc. There was something sticky in the middle of the bathroom floor so you wouldn't want to walk across it. The water flow from the bathroom sink was extremely weak and water did not get very warm/hot. The beds were clean (thankfully) but the covers need to be replaced since there were holes in them in various places. The room was quiet and I didn't hear a lot of noise during the day or night which is a plus. If only they had cleaned the bathroom I would've given more stars and had a better experience here. Checking out was extremely simple. I just text my email information to a number the hotel provided and dropped my keys into a locked box on the wall beside the main elevators.

The best attribute of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront by far is the location. First of all, it’s a waterfront property overlooking the San Diego Bay. Perfect for a sunset view which can be taken advantage of with a cocktail and/or dinner at the Odysea Lounge which has an outside patio. Their staff is extremely friendly, inviting and informative on things to do. The location is also great for a morning jog or evening walk along the long walkway running along the waterfront.

Second, the Hilton San Diego Bayfront is connected to the pedestrian bridge that leads you right to Petco Stadium to catch a SD Padres game. We were down here for my godson’s Little League Tournament, so what better than to take the kids to a Padres game to show them how the pros do it. Beautiful stadium and save your stomach for the great ballpark food choices.

Third, the pedestrian bridge also takes you to the famous Gaslamp District. They’re famous for their dining and nightlife. We visited a few rooftop restaurants for some amazing food, drinks and views. If you’re a foodie, Let suggest Rustic Root. Delicious food, great cocktails and cold beers with optional rooftop dining.

Fourth, only a few miles from the SD Zoo and Seaworld. We visited the SD Zoo on our second day. Had an awesome day there. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

So location was best attribute, the room was very clean, but 4 stars instead of 5 because the valet kind of gave me a little attitude for dropping my wife, daughter and luggage at the front before self parking. They were more friendly when they thought I was valeting. My bathroom door was a little stuck which made a loud noise when you open and close it. Not great for the middle of the night restroom visits. The worse part was they charged you a $35 resort fee, but you had to make a reservation for a 2hr limit to use the pool. When we called to make a reservation, the only time slot available was 6-8pm. Also a lot of ballpark guest park there and also use the parking lot as a public restroom. There’s a little urine aroma saturating the air.

All in all, the negs wasn’t as bad as it sounds. This hotel still gets 4 out of 5 stars in my book. But I did want you all to know the negs in case they are a bigger selling point for some of you readers.

Hello BNguyenHB, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review your most recent stay with us. What a wonderful review, and I am delighted to hear your family made the most of your time in San Diego. I am happy to hear that our location provided you the perfect place to catch a Padres game, enjoy the nightlife and dining of Gaslamp, and visit the wonderful San Diego Zoo. It gives me joy to know that you enjoyed several sunsets and views of the bay while dining in Odysea and from your guestroom. Thank you so much for your feedback regarding the valet and your experience with your amenities’. We are currently utilizing a pool reservation system to ensure the health and safety of our guests, and enhance the pool experience by limiting the capacity and I can understand how that may have impacted your overall stay with us. Please accept my apology regarding your arrival experience and I will be bringing your comments back to the team regarding valet parking. I look to our guests' reviews to see how we can better our hotel and guests' experiences, and your feedback is an invaluable part of that process. I hope you and your family will consider staying with us the next time you are in the area. Sincerely, Steve Cowan, General Manager

Lied to repeatedly. Gold status that provides early check in not honored. Guaranteed 4pm check-in NOPE....Didn't happen. More lies. Keep in mind we upgraded to the Presidential Suite on 30th floor which also came with no orientation on how to operate electronics such as shower, blinds, etc. We finally got in our room around 5:30 pm (thanks to a call to corporate office who talked to manager Kevin and suddenly our room was ready) which if you prorate the daily cost of room would have bought us dinner and breakfast. Was offered continental breakfast coupons which were useless. 45 minute wait to be seated.
We walked into town and ate elsewhere.
Spent the next day in town and surrounding area enjoying San Diego only to return and find out i cannot enter my room. I must go stand in line again to try and get a new key or update. While there i ask Kevin (Manager) if i need any stamp or ? for the parking garage for entry exit. No just throw that ticket away and keep your room card for exit /entry. You will be charged automatically at the hotel. NOPE... Good thing i kept that ticket. Had to insert it to get out as well as pay with a credit card to get out. But did also find a charge on hotel bill for the same thing. Lied to again..
This is just a sample of unacceptable Hilton conduct that we will never experience again. This property in general has no regard for it's patrons. Throws blame on housekeeping for reasons for rooms not being ready. We were able to check our floor and no housekeeping was even in the area @ 4:15 doing any work.

Never again. Bill totals for this experience exceeded 800.00 if it was a dime and that was with our Gold status rate as well as paying 115.00 in advance for the first night and 88000 Hilton Honors points points redeemed for the second night. Feel a compensation of some level is needed back.

we stayed for 4 nights and every night I was cursing Priceline for allowing me to book this hotel. first of all they took the microwave out of the rooms to put in a useless wine fridge? The restaurant in the hotel charges 5 star price for 2 star food we are talking 22 dollars for a basic hamburger. you want cheese that's a dollar, you want bacon 2 dollars. Maybe you just want to relax by the pool and have a beer that's 20 dollars for a beer. A bloody Mary that cost 14.50 to have delivered to your room cost 17 to have with dinner. WIFI is 13 Dollars a day? Every time I asked the front for something they had a reason on why they could not accommodate. My son left his sandals in the pool area after the pool closed instead of saying no big deal we will open the door for you they told my wife to fill out a lost and found ticket and that they would return them. It was not until she got angry that they called security to open the gate so she could get them. They charge an additional 35 a day resort fee yet have minimum hours that the pool are open and essentially there is nothing else to utilize as it is all closed up. This also popped up as beach front, this is 15 minutes to the beach by car. We were told we got a view with our room, the only view we had was of the Dole yard unless you walked over to the window and pressed your face to the glass you were just staring at a concreate yard with shipping containers. we were also not told you had to book house keeping so by the time we came back it was too late for service. I asked to at least have the trash picked up as there are no trash cans anywhere on the floor we were on and to have towels dropped off, the lady said she would have that done. We went to dinner and came back to find all the wet towels still on the floor, new towels were left on the bed and the bag of trash we had was ripped and left behind?? Next time we are in San Diego we will just stay at a motel 6 at least you will get what you pay for there!

The hotel has used covid as an excuse to provide horrible customer service. There is no default service, not even emptying the trash after three days. The instruction for room cleaning are under a link in a welcome text. How often does anyone read the links in a welcome text? The link is badly worded, talking about "requests received before 11pm." The bottom line, you must request room cleaning a full day in advance, no same day service. period. You also have to specify the type of service, they don't ask, and they don't tell you that you need to ask. You cannot ask the cleaning staff for services, they are not allowed provide anything without permission. You have to call the front desk.

There is an addition $35 "urban destination" charge on top of the room rate. They give you a $15 food credit in exchange for the $35. In other words, it is a "resort fee" without a resort.

The entry signage is mostly broken, making it difficult to figure out that you must drive up a ramp to the second floor to actually get to the entrance.

Oh yes, various parts of the hotel get weird smells that smell like a gas leak. The staff said that it comes from the nearby dole pineapple plant.

Overall, it is a pretty hotel with nice views right on the bay. The staff were all pleasant, but it is clear that the management either did not think through the customer experience, or does not care.

Justin, thank you for taking the time to review your stay and for choosing our Hilton San Diego Bayfront. It is through valuable feedback such as yours that we are able to continuously improve our standards. It was our pleasure to host you on your recent trip to San Diego Bayfront. We are steps away from many entertainment options which I am hopeful you appreciated greatly. It is our passion to deliver exceptional guest experiences on all levels. We regret that our pandemic protocol was an inconvenience. I apologize that it did not echo the perfection we desired for you. We are in agreement with our guests who have overwhelmingly stated their preference to not have hotel staff entering their rooms during the pandemic. As such, all housekeeping service is received upon request and with sufficient notice to ensure the safety of our guests and housekeepers. However, we are grateful for your feedback and will investigate where our communication failed internally. We apologize if our published Urban Destination Fee was at all a surprise. This is quite typical of hotels in the city. We hope your time with us made use of the many inclusions of that fee. We pride ourselves on offering an endless list of amenities that are included in that fee. We appreciate your added feedback and on behalf of all of us in San Diego, we hope to one day welcome you again so that we can win your heart in full. Kind regards, Steve Cowan, General Manager

When we checked in, we asked about the view from our room and told a harbor view. We were looking at all industrial, very little water. Our air conditioning in the room wasn’t working and someone had to come up and fix it. Then our toilet wasn’t working and that had to be fixed too. We were told we could only stay at the pool for two hours because of San Diego covid rules and need to sanitize. No one came and told me to leave nor did I see them wipe or sanitize any chair the entire day. With so few people there, would it have hurt to give us a room with a view instead of trying to charge us $59/night extra? Poor experience at a place I used to love. Wont stay again.

Hello Meganwl1067US, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. The Hilton Bayfront is at a gorgeous location, right on the water (unlike the Marriott up the shore). The pool is right adjacent to the water, the location is very quiet, and the staff are wonderfully happy, friendly, and helpful. The views are spectacular! The food is superb as well. I can't say enough good things about the Hilton Bayfront. Also this hotel cost less than its local competitors. The only thing I wished for was more days there!

Very disappointing and deceiving! When we checked in the description of charges did not reflect what my reservation stated, which was not correct until after check out, causing unnecessary stress. The view that is shown on their website is deceiving.
Yes you see the Coronado Bridge but mostly a huge industrial area with Dole truck trailers and stored military vehicles. The room was supposed to be 2 queen beds, we got one queen and one full size (thankfully we only had 3 people). The telephone didn't work so I had to use my cell to call main number to be connected to guest services. Yes we did inform them, no they did not fix it. Oh and FYI no microwave. Ask housekeeping if she could come back in a half hour so we could gather our things and leave. She said yes then never came back. Had to call ask guest services to send someone to clean the room which meant having to leave the room again after being gone all day. Most of the restaurants were closed and Starbucks is only open on the weekends. During this time I can say the staff was friendly. However, I will never stay here again!

The rooms were recently renovated and our room 3054 had a nice view. Room was modern, free movies, and Netflix. I picked our room the night b4 on the Hilton ap. Parking fee was reasonable, and we used our $35 daily resort fee towards breakfast at Vela. For a busy weekend, the wait time of 35 mins for seating was not bad. We enjoyed this stay and will be using the Hilton Card often to get the Gold Status. I communicated via text w/ guest services who also extended our check out to 1pm - a nice perk for being a Silver member. Beautiful and huge hotel and close to Gaslamp, and a short drive to Coronado. Staff was very efficient and checking in and out was so easy w/ the Hilton ap. We love this Hilton hotel.

Shuttle runs on Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 10-3. As far as I know the shuttle is on the side of hotel and I don't think you need a reservation. I have never taken the shuttle....I prefer the Ferry.
