Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Guests have commended the Hilton San Diego Airport/Harbor Island for its friendly and accommodating service, although occasional slow responses and maintenance hiccups have been noted. While the hotel's location is cherished for its scenic charm, the sense of value is tarnished by perceptions of high costs, including parking and room service fees. Room experiences fluctuate, with some finding their accommodations clean and modern with stunning views, yet others see them as outdated. Cleanliness generally receives high marks across the board, with most areas well-kept. The amenities, such as the efficient shuttle service and the inviting staff, often receive positive mentions.

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton for two nights. While I understand adjustments due to Covid restrictions, it seems that hotels are using that as an excuse to charge more and provide reduced services. This hotel is no exception. At 5pm the second night, I went to the front desk to ask why our room had not been "made up". They asked if I had requested service. I asked how I would know that I needed to request service. They pointed to a printed piece of paper taped to the check-in counter. I said that I had checked in via the Hilton App as suggested and never had contact with anyone at the hotel. They did apologize and had the room "serviced" while we went to dinner. The service consisted of 3 decaf coffee packets (I wanted regular) and a towel. They didn't even empty the trash.

The room was nice and the view was wonderful. Parking is $25 a night which seems a little steep for a location far away from downtown. Hot tub is closed (presumably a Covid rule) and the elevators are not Covid friendly. (Meaning, if someone is already on the elevator, the hotel wants you to wait for an empty car. That could take a long time since the full car still stops at every floor asking for an elevator).

We would stay there again, but might wait until social distancing is no longer a thing.

My husband & I wanted a nice day vacation to San Diego to especially visit Coronado. We wanted a hotel with good reviews on their Covid 19 safety measures and had a view of the harbor. This hotel met our criteria and did an outstanding job of making us feel safe. We think that all rooms have balconies and we chose a "harbor view" vs a "marina view". This is our 6th hotel stay since Covid 19 and found it to have the best safety measurements yet. Every area of the hotel had visible signs, stickers & sometimes directional signs to navigate through potential busy spots, including the elevators. The room (8th floor, harbor superior room) had a sticker on the door jam/opening after housekeeping's initial preparation, it was spacious and a great view. Panorama Bar & Grill (on the premises) had patio seating BUT inside seating was allowed (with restrictions) as of 8/31. The menu was limited for obvious reasons, but our breakfast was fresh and flavorful. The price was a little high but that's typical for hotel restaurants. The bed was VERY comfortable. Admittedly I rely on hotel reviews to determine a place to stay yet haven't taken time to write reviews myself; our stay warranted a review. Although close to both a commercial and naval airport, noise was NEVER an issue during our stay. The pool was open but not the jacuzzi or fitness center which we have found to be par for the course at hotels during this time. I always CALL a hotel prior to my stay to get up to date detail.

This Hilton is located very conveniently close to the airport, but did not notice air traffic noise. I traveled solo, as a scouting trip for our guests coming in September for a family wedding. I appreciated the
free shuttle to/from the airport and felt very safe and welcomed. The bell staff was very aware and remembered my name as I left the hotel the next morning for errands. I was impressed. Nice sized pool, and a spa that would fit probably 5-6 people. The harbor view room I was in, had spectacular sunrises and beautiful cityscape reflections on the water at night. Even heard flag raising and Star Spangled banner in the morning across the harbor at the base on Coronado. Breakfast was very good, hot, even when I came right at the end of the brunch time, with many choices of fresh fruits and bread options. They also could make a custom omelet if chosen. There are free shuttle rides with the hotel shuttle service on the island, which I took advantage of also. Friendly front desk and great bell staff. My room was very clean and roomy with a nice balcony overlooking the harbor , and the bed was also very comfortable also with ample pillows. My friends and family will be very comfortable, safe, and pleased with this hotel option we chose for them for the September event.

We reserved a superior floor room for 5 nights. Of course the high floor requests also comes with a much higher room cost. We thought this would mean the 9th floor, but it includes the 8th floor where we were placed. That would probably be our only disappointment with our stay, especially when it appeared many the 9th floor rooms were available during our trip, aside from Friday/Saturday. Harbor views were great! The only downside to the hotel balcony is the lack of privacy, as the hotel shape means you are able to see all the other balconies. On the 8th floor the horizon is in perfect line with the railing when seated in the chairs, but sitting on a pillow helps to change that. We also had a room on the Marina side for our new Marine. He was on the 3rd floor and had views of both the marina and the harbor, while overlooking the pool and being able to see the sunsets - I was impressed by the views here, especially being lower cost “marina” views. (Rooms ending in single digits, ex 307) There were palm trees in his view, but likely not an issue on floors 6 or above. If you have a car, the parking is $25/day.
We did not utilize the restaurant on site for breakfast as we had to leave early several of the mornings. A quick grab and go option would have been a great addition to have. There are quick, good delis within walking distance that we used the rest of our mornings. We did go to the lounge/restaurant 4 times while there for dinner. One night there was live music and we ended up not even going in as the music volume was similar to a loud bar/concert from the hallway. When there was no live music it was a great relaxing place and chat. The food was really good, the ribeye being one of the best we have had. The Cesar salads (with steak and salmon) were great. The burgers were large and perfect. The Miso Salmon is served on the medium rare side, FYI. We enjoyed trying several drink specials and most all would be recommended. We loved the location and would consider staying here again, though finding a place with breakfast included and/or more private balconies would sway us elsewhere.

Still in this hotel. Room reeked of pot. Complained for two reasons to front desk. The first is we are allergic to smoke and the second is that we could be fined as noted in the pictures attached. My wife who made the reservation is a lifetime Hilton Diamond btw. Our room is on the 8th floor with a perfect view. Now what happened.
Front desk person and her "witness" came up. We had both the balcony door and room door open to vent. She immediately declared that she smelled nothing, that we had been "upgraded", and that she would be sure we wouldn't be fined. She said that since we seemed unhappy we were free to leave or they could offer us a standard room on floor 1. The conversation went downhill from there!
The net is we are still in the room. Enough pot was smoked in here to saturate the carpet and drapes but it appears most was on the balcony which Is still coated in ash.
Really not sure what their angle is. Came into room with the attitude of "there is no problem" and apparently prefer guests to leave rather than help them. They did up the ante to the same first floor room with one free appetizer:)

We were able to take advantage of early check in, and were happily greeted by Perla at reception. She was very kind and had the Hilton “We are Happy to See you” spirit.

Our room was on the 8th floor with a nice view of the Marina and bay. One of the great benefits offered by this property is “the view”, so try to take advantage of it with a higher floor. You have a Marina view, or a Harbor view (some have both). If you like looking at ships (including Navy) as well as a view of the downtown skyline, then opt for Harbor view. If you like looking at yachts and other small boats, get the marina view.

The room had the sanitized seal on the door before entry. The room was very clean, including coffee maker, tv remote control was in plastic, carpet was clean, bathroom was clean. Nice large bath towels, hot water came on fast, and had all the usual Hilton Amenities (except for a pen and pad). Room had a large LG flat screen TV along with a nice selection of cable stations. Internet was fast enough to run Roku or your laptop. AC was efficient and quiet, and bed was very comfortable (Hilton Signature Bed) as were the pillows.

The Hilton Restaurant (Panorama Bar and Grill) had both indoor and outdoor seating and service. We had lunch at the hotel with a wonderful view of the Marina and were provided excellent service by Sergio and Miguel. I decided to have a Hamburger (which I rarely have), and it was great! We also had breakfast at the hotel and once again had great service provided by Brian, and a very nice breakfast.

The Property is close to Airport and downtown, but strategically situation to have that full “Vacation” feeling. With the windows closed you do not hear aircraft noise. You are within walking distance of Tom Hams Lighthouse Restaurant (5-minute walk), and a very nice walking path along the shore (you can easily walk up to about 5 miles along the shore). They also have kayak, and other water rentals close to hotel (not part of the hotel).

Another unique benefit of this property is the adjacent Yacht Club, with their morning Star Spangled Banner presentation, as well as assorted tunes throughout the day that really added to the decorum and festivities while enjoying the view from your balcony. Everyone we saw on the balconies really enjoyed the view, the tranquility of the bay, and the occasional unique tunes emanating from the Yacht club.

If you are looking for a quick getaway that has that “far away vacation feel”, but is close to the airport (they have a shuttle from hotel to airport), as well as a quick drive to various tourist attractions across the bay. Then this is the hotel for you!

We liked our stay so much, we plan to visit this property again for a couple of days.

Was attending a conference at the nearby Sheraton also on Harbor Island but Sheraton was sold out, so stayed at the Hilton instead. It was a 10-15 minute walk to the Sheraton. The stay at the Hilton was very enjoyable as we got a nice room on the 7th floor overlooking the Marina facing to the east. The view from the balcony of the room was towards downtown San Diego and was nice at night; we could also see part of North Island NAS towards the southeast. The room was spacious enough with two comfortable queen beds and a very nice desk with plenty of electric plugs (and USB ports). The noise from San Diego International Airport (Lindbergh Field) was not too bad. Parking is $25/day, but that is typical of hotels in San Diego. As Hilton HHonors gold members, we had the continental breakfast everyday and it was very acceptable. Would like to stay here again.

My Girlfriend and I stayed here back in October 2020 for our first COVID-19 staycation. The room that I stayed at was perfect and clean. They put these "seals" on the door that ensure no one else has been in that room since it has been cleaned. The lady who checked us in was super super friendly. I had a minor sunburn (my fault) and they sold me some aloe vera. I love to watch planes and I spent hours on the balcony just sipping my coffee and watching the incoming traffic.

I just wished I could remember the name of the lady who checked us in so I could name her here. I also wish I could remember my room number because I am coming back for my birthday and I want that room again on March 6th.

We stayed our final night in San Diego so we would be close to the airport. The location is excellent, and we loved the free airport shuttle. Our room was very clean and spacious. We had been upgraded because my husband is a Diamond Member and our room had a lovely view of the bay, harbor & marina. The bed was very comfortable and the HVAC worked wonderfully. I am not giving the hotel a 5 because we were given free breakfast but told at the restaurant that we had to pay an extra $7 each if we wanted to eat from the hot bar. This hotel isn’t cheap, and we were happy to pay for a lovely room & night but we did expect to be able to enjoy a few slices of bacon with our fruit & toast. Charging patrons $7 (when they’re told they have free breakfast) seems like such a petty way to get a free dollars.
