In light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused widespread closure of hotels, restaurants, bars and businesses, it was with careful consideration that my boyfriend and I decided to take a quick trip— a mini-getaway to Monterey from Los Angeles, where we have been several times before, but not during the current unprecedented situation of a global public health crisis.

So, with our masks, gloves and other protective gear, we booked our stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. I researched all the latest COVID-19 and Hilton updates that have been enacted to keep guests safe and comfortable during this pandemic, and this hotel, with its comprehensive sanitation plan and cooperative agreement with Lysol brand sanitation products, thoroughly impressed me.

Upon our arrival, David G was super nice, friendly and helpful in checking us in, and explained everything completely about where to find open restaurants in the area, as well as details about the cleaning protocols that the hotel uses; including no contact room sanitation, check in and check out procedures, and social distancing procedures. When we arrived at our room, there was a sticker that one has to break open to get into the room, illustrating that the room had been sterilized and that none of the cleaning staff could enter the room after cleaning, until guest have checked out or, if staying for more than 7 days, until the 8th day to clean.

Our room was visibly spotless, and we also had a beautiful balcony overlooking the parking lot, but with a view of beautiful trees. . In addition, we had secured parking in the garage of the hotel, and since we have a handicapped placard, it was so nice to see the huge parking spaces separated by at least 10 feet. This was unexpected and amazing to us, especially in light of the pandemic.

We had my little dog with us, and since he is a service dog, David G waived the pet fee, and was so helpful in explaining the policies of having a pet in our room.

This hotel is comfortable, convenient and hassle free, as well as being extraordinarily clean, which gave us peace of mind to enjoy this little getaway in the most stress free way possible, which was our goal in traveling here. So much so that we decided to stay another night.

Since we decided to extend our stay late at night, I went down to the front desk to book the extension, and Kenny F was upfront, awesome and honest about the price difference, as well as giving helpful advice on the most cost effective way to extend our stay, Through Kenny F’s suggestions of using my original booking method, I was able to extend our stay another night with almost the same per night price as I paid before.

All in all, I am extremely happy with this hotel and the care they have taken in ensuring their guests’ safety, comfort and convenience. And, even with everything going on across the globe, the staff here have been super friendly and accommodating. I will definitely stay here again. Thank you!

We have just stayed for 5 nights, we chose a room overlooking the pool area, which was rowdy in the evenings, but not past around 9.30. Parking under the hotel keeps the car cool in the day time. We walked into town every day, it took around 20 minutes and was very pleasant through the park area and by the lake. Even in the evenings it felt safe to be out walking back. We could get on the freeway north really easily too, for sight seeing trips out.

The room are not serviced at this time, however fresh towels and extra supplies could be ordered and be left outside your room. The breakfast to go bag was fine, a grain bar and peanut butter tub, piece of fruit and 2 hard boiled eggs with a chilli sauce for $3. Free coffee in reception 6am-9pm.

The hotel indicated that the bar was only open on Friday and Saturday evenings on the letter we recieved upon check in, I was then suprised to see it was open on Tuesday evening, with a Happy Hour sign too! Given we are encouraged to not come though reception seemed a little bit ambiguous. The mask wearing policy was observed by all staff and 95% of guests and I was a little disappointed to see reception deal with a lady who was unmasked and getting rather close.

If we were to return to Monterey this would be our choice again based on price
and location.

This Hilton is a very large one. It's very clean and our room was large, quiet, and comfortable. We especially liked the laundry facilities, since we'd been traveling for a week and appreciated being able to wash our clothes. You can exchange bills for necessary quarters at the front desk and also get laundry supplies there. I have to admit that, due to the size of the hotel, I got a bit lost finding my way to the laundry room---poor sense of direction!
There is lots of parking and a convenient pool, although too chilly to use it in January. Did not use the restaurant.
Recommended.

This Garden Inn is in dire need of a refresh, the decor is dated and all the finishes in the rooms are showing wear and tear. That said, I visit Monterey often and have stayed at a lot of hotels there, and this is the most comfortable bed I've found at this price point - perhaps at any price point. Showers are also pretty good, with regular showerheads and not the terrible low-flow variety that some of the other hotels there have. The location is excellent if you are in Monterey to visit friends/family or for business, being close to both Highways 1 and 68, but not the best location for all the touristy stuff like Cannery Row. The only reason I'm taking off a star is that they failed to apply the food and beverage credit I should have received as a Diamond member (speaking of which, the onsite restaurant is very good).

Hilton Garden Inn from the exterior is an older facility, but the interior rooms are nicely maintained with a comfortable bed and an outdoor balcony. The pool area and gym are also nicely maintained. I primarily chose the facility because I’m a Hilton Honor Member.
The downside are;
1) Low pressure/ low flow shower-head water pressure probably due to a water conservation policy.
2)The facility charges for parking ($15)there is no offsite parking.
3)The rooms either face the pool (up charge) or Highway 1 (noisy).
4) Distance from - downtown 1 mile. 1 1/2 miles from the Wharf and 2 1/2 miles from Cannery Row.

A good value is where price matches what you get. If this were a $120 per night Red Roof Inn I'd give it a higher rating. However, with parking this is a $260 Hilton brand. The facility is old and once you get beyond the lobby quite weatherworn. It's pet friendly and unfortunately our neighbor's dog was yapping during the night. The restaurant food is fast food quality at three times the cost. In terms of parking we found a nasty note on our car saying if we didn't display our pass we'd be towed. What pass? They never gave us one nor asked for any info. on our vehicle. When we mentioned that we got nothing but attitude from the front desk. This location isn't terrible but with a little research you can clearly find a much better place for the same cost.

The room was almost double the size of a regular hotel room, but it’s oddly shaped and the furniture is too small for the room. No one with decorating skills designed that room. The furniture was pushed up randomly against the wall, there was a painting placed directly behind one of the televisions. The room was dirty with food crumbs and what appeared to be drink or blood stains on the couch. There was conditioner, but no shampoo in the room. I was planning to stay for two days, but left after the first night. It was well below the standard I would expect of Hilton.

We came here for a night getaway. Compared to other Hilton’s, this was an okay property. The room above and next to us were loud and you can hear people walking above us. The pool area was the best part of the hotel because they have a nice fire pit you can hang out by. I recommend getting a room that overlooks the pool and not the freeway or back side. It’s quiet from the freeway, but expect it to be loud until the pool closes. Each balcony room has a little sitting area and you can sleep with the door open. Because of the pandemic, there was no dine in breakfast, of which I would have enjoyed.

I have stayed at this hotel on business trips, but it was years ago. I came with my family for one night. We were given a small room that was a bit dirty. I did not feel like I was treated like an HH Diamond member. I complained about my room but was not offered a new one. To add insult to injury I was charged $15 for parking in a wide open lot. I asked if this was new and was told yes. There is no need for this, especially for a Diamond member. I pointed out that this change (having to pay for parking) was not mentioned in my reservation. The desk clerk just shrugged his shoulders. Shame on you Monterey Hilton Garden Inn! This was an expensive rate for a below average room. I have stayed here about 10 times, but never again. There are better Hilton and Marriott options in the area. My company would normally have about 25 room nights a year at this hotel. Not any more. I instructed my employees to never stay here again. We greatly disliked out stay and would like to encourage you to not stay here.

Thank you for detailed and through review here, and the information you have provided. We apologize for the several inconveniences and issues you shared, and while we certainly understand your displeasure, please know this is not the property's character. While we have had a $15 parking charge for the past seven years, we understand you concern there. And of, course, as a wonderful Diamond Member in our Hilton Family, we out somewhat limited on what 'move-able' options we have, when the hotel is sold out. Thank you again, and we certainly hope you consider us down the road, as we were fortunate enough to have you as your our guest 9 times prior to this stay. Thank you again.

I don’t know about size but it’s really nice to have a balcony so you can step outside. But beware: there are mosquitos and knats due to the pond outside. We also a had mosquitos in our room. We weren’t able to use the balcony due to them! We had to ask manager to have ground keeper spray insecticide outside our room while we were there.

We were there twice within a month ...once at the end of September for a weekend....and again early November and both times the wonderful heated pool was open until 10PM! There is also a hot tub...towels at the poolside...and a wonderful fire pit with seats all around for evenings...loved the treats offered by the hotel to make "Smore's"
