Havana 1957--sin capital of the world. Mafia nightclubs, sex, drugs and gambling. A young cop witnesses a murder and must decide if he wants to play the corrupt game or go against shady cops and the mob with the help of a beautiful Tropicana dancer.

I was in Cuba in 1958 - Batista was still in power. This movie took me back as a kid. It was very credible, and well acted. The plot was not novel..but the theme was probably typical of the real life of Havana in 57. I am not sure how much it has changed since then. Would love to go back to Havana but currently is exploitative in costly.
I enjoy movies about Cuba. Havana57 starts out as a simple murder mystery and expands into an investigation of corrupt cops, corrupt police officials, corrupt government officials, the American mob and students that want an honest Cuban government. This is a small but very entertaining movie with a cast of unknowns. I highly recommend this one.
Interesting to see how the Candian producer made a movie in the actual Havana and was able to recreate the time by the end of the 50's but some impresicions happened during the movie that shows a bad quality of the production: I was able to see some mics at the back of the people when they were in the cemetery for example. Other than that it was good for me to see again Havana City, specially during the night.
Poorly written, poor acting and directing. Havana is tired and poverty stricken, too drab for 1957 Havana, so the scenery doesn't help. This would have looked better at least if it had been filmed somewhere else.
