      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It can't help but feel like the prelude it is, but Deathly Hallows: Part I is a beautifully filmed, emotionally satisfying penultimate installment for the Harry Potter series.

HeartbreakPrince Intense awesome sexy Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/23 Full Review Cole Amazing movie. Seeing it in theaters again literally made me tear up. I wish all the Harry Potter movies were shown throughout the year Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Bethany C Absolute must watch!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/22 Full Review Leti A Very boring. They tried to make a plot of something that was purely rising action. Had an interesting beginning but they ruined it with the scene that followed. There was also a dancing scene between Harry and hermonie which made it seem like they were in a relationship when that's not case. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review The Wandering D This one surprised me the most by how much I liked it. Impactful and excellently done. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review Jack t And now we come to the big one, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final two parts of the entire Harry Potter franchise. After what you guys and I have been through on this journey, this is the one massive fun we can ever cherish forever. And this is the last film I've ever saw in the cinemas. So with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, let's get on with it. With Professor Severus Snape being under control by the "You-Know-Who" AKA. Lord Voldemort played by Ralph Fiennes, he meets with him and his Death Eaters. He reports that the Order of the Phoenix will move Harry Potter, no longer under his mother's protective spell, to a safe location. Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Alastor Moody and others move Harry to a safer place which is Ron's house but Alastor and Hedwig got killed. They prepare for Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour's wedding, the new Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour arrives and informs Harry, Ron, and Hermione that Albus Dumbledore left each a bequest. The wedding was interrupted by a Ministry and the Death Eaters attack and Harry, Ron, and Hermione escape and the adventure is on. So like I said, there'll be no school sessions because of what you see what had happened in the end of Half-Blood Prince and the previous characters like John Hurt from the first film, Professor Dolores Umbridge and my favorite character, you guessed it, Dobby is back. Hooray! And he looks more different than I thought. Back from the Chamber of Secrets and now in Deathly Hollows. Much like from the Half-Blood Prince however, the ending is upsetting and devastating and the story does not end and we still got one more to go and this time, it'll be even more and more epic. Hey, remember what I said about how they put Part 1 on it because this is the never ending story? Well, That's what I exactly said while I was reviewing Part 1 of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and now I'm doing the same thing in this one. There you have it! Next up, Deathly Hollows: Part 2. Deborah Ross The Spectator As directed by David Yates, it moves too fast. It never lingers, or stops to smell the roses. Aug 30, 2018 Full Review Sophie Mayer Sight & Sound Rather than taking time to wonder, to immerse, or even to grieve at the crucial moments of the story, the film and its characters are driven on towards this future confrontation with videogame logic and an endless flow of exposition-based dialogue. Jul 10, 2018 Full Review David Elliott San Diego Reader Maturing performances are a bonus, but the show's the thing, and by now it seems much richer than any theme park that could ever be made from it. Rated: 3/5 Nov 14, 2016 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Surprising for its dramatic clout and atypical presentation, The Deathly Hallows, Part 1 will instantly challenge audiences to reconsider the formula-bound hands with which Yates has directed the franchise up to now. Rated: 3/4 Aug 3, 2023 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a woefully erratic adaptation that predominantly feels like it should be an hour shorter. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 4, 2022 Full Review James McMahon NME (New Musical Express) Hyperbolic? Overly giddy? Oh hush. There's little place for cynicism in the world of Harry Potter. Besides, wait until the sort of stuff you're spouting two and a half hours after you've entered the cinema... Rated: 4/5 May 25, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
