England captain Harry Kane has signed a new six-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2024.

Striker Kane, 24, scored 30 Premier League goals as Spurs finished third in the table last season and is about to lead England at the World Cup.

Kane's previous contract, which was announced in December 2016 and was reportedly worth more than £100,000 a week, had been due to expire in 2022.

"I'm looking forward to the future," Kane told Tottenham's website.

"It's been fantastic to consistently get in the Champions League so I'm really excited to have another go at that, and with the Premier League and FA Cup, we'll look to go as far as we can.

"I'm really excited about the World Cup, so it's nice to get this done before that and I'm just looking to go out there and enjoy it now."

In May, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino signed a new five-year deal, keeping him at the north London club until 2023.

Kane finished 2017 as the year's top goalscorer in European football with 56 goals for club and country, and is Tottenham's leading scorer in the Premier League era.

He broke former England captain Alan Shearer's record for the most Premier League goals in a calendar year in 2017, netting 39.

Great news for Spurs, England fans and anyone who supports a team in the Premier League in general. It's great to see Spurs retaining their top talent.

The guy can't win, he leaves and people will decry him as a mercenary, he stays and people get on his back for lacking ambition. Say what you want but he's showing loyalty as part of a young and exciting team when he could have chase a bigger pay cheque at a soulless club in the vain of Real Madrid or PSG. That's a plus in my book.

Anyone not thinking this is great is a tribal football throwback. Kane has shown he's not a mercenary; he is pure class in his personal and professional life. And this from a Chelski fan who has to put up with a family of (ecstatic) Spuds supporters. Well done Harry and can't think of anyone better to captain the national team.

Great news for the Prem League and I'm a Man Utd fan. The more top players stay in England the better - it creates greater competition amongst the top six. The world doesn't revolve around Barca and Real Madrid!! Kane is a decent guy too - level-headed, mature and no fancy haircuts or ridiculous leg tattoos! A good role model, wish there were more players like him.

Marginally leapfrogged? Not too sure you know what leapfrogged means. Finished above Liverpool last season. Finished above Liverpool 8 times in the last 9 seasons in fact. If by "marginally leapfrogged" you mean Spurs continued their near decade long dominance over you than you are spot on.

As a Man City fan, delighted to see him staying with Spurs. They've always played nice football and with a few more signings in the summer they could be genuine title contenders.

Great to see LFC fans still having a go at Harry even though he gives his all for both Spurs and England. Don't remember too many LFC fans moaning about Luis Suarez's constant diving in a Liverpool shirt, never mind the biting! There's a saying about people in glass houses...but I guess you've never heard of it.

As an LFC fan I'm going to say well done Spurs for keeping Harry. Leaving aside all the amusing tribal banter, it would've been a shame to see him go to a rival or abroad.

Let's hope he can do it for England!

I am in my 60s now use to love the banter in pubs with rival fans back in the day. Things changed with the hooligans in the late 70,s the 80,s which turned me off of football, and I got into rugby although I always followed my team Spurs. I now look at this thread and see everything that is bad about football. Kane is a great example to youngsters but keyboard idiots prevail, so many fools.

By the way I am not a Spurs supporter just one who supports my home town team (Bolton) who are struggling but not jealous like some fans comments on here
