The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego offers a rockstar atmosphere with its music-themed decor, situated in the vibrant Gaslamp district, a detail that guests have called out for its convenience. However, some travelers have experienced inconsistent service, with reports of unresponsiveness and delays. Guests praise certain amenities, yet others feel the additional fees and room rates don't match the value received. While the rooms and public areas are generally maintained, noise is a common complaint, with disruptions from the street and hotel parties being a notable concern.

My husband and I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego for a night as part of a trip to explore the West Coast. It was a great stay!

The Hard Rock is located right in downtown San Diego and there are a ton of restaurants and bars in the area. We landed pretty late so we checked in around 10pm. Everything was processed quickly and smoothly.

We booked a Hard Rock King Suite, which was very spacious. You enter into the living area which had a counter and seating area to the left with the coffee maker and mini-fridge. There was a large couch area with a coffee table. The center of the room housed the sink with the toilet and shower split on either side of the area, which was unique but functional enough. The bedroom was beyond that area and has plenty of space. The bed was comfortable and had a cool purple backlighting above it. Everything was immaculate.

There was on-site valet parking, which was very convenient. The room rate was $269, which we considered very reasonable for the area and time of year. All of the staff was friendly and helpful.

We would definitely visit again on our next trip to San Diego!

Our all adults family celebrated my husband's 65th birthday with a extended weekend stay at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego over the past January 22-26, 2020 dates. We had a total of 5 rooms. Originally all the rooms were the Rock Star suites but one day prior to our stay we received a call from Tyler Jezierski the rooms controller for the hotel. He offered us an upgrade for my husband and my room to the Woodstock suite with a corner balcony. We did the upgrade and were excited by the balcony and view! Tyler also arranged for all our rooms to be close together on the 11th floor, we enjoyed meeting him on our arrival, appreciate all his efforts and his wonderful gift for my husband's birthday of a bucket of great IPA beer and bottle of champagne! My husband received happy birthday wishes from the valet, baggage, room service and housekeeping staff! The location of the hotel is great at the start of the Gaslamp district with many restaurants and fun spots all within walking distance. The hotel also has 2 great restaurants and 2 bars. We enjoyed them all but really liked and spent a part of every evening at "The Float bar" on the 4th floor. There was ample seating areas around the fire pits and the service was awesome. Housekeeping was wonderful as were all the friendly and helpful staff at the hotel. The rock themed rooms were fun to stay in, very clean and the beds were comfortable. Everyone in our group really enjoyed our stay and we all would recommend the Hard Rock Hotel.

Overall, the experience went well with a few minor setbacks. We happened to check in with the USC Marching Band and at that time only 2 of 3 South Elevators were functioning. During certain times of the days, only 1 elevator was working so it was a bit frustrating when traveling with a stroller and an infant, when we had to wait for the 1 elevator. Secondly, we placed a note ahead of time requesting a crib. After check in we had to follow up multiple times for the delivery of the crib. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff, especially the cleaning staff, were very accommodating, attentive and cordial. The location is superb. It's around the corner from many highly rated restaurants, across the street from the Green Line train and convention center and the views were stunning.

So here we go...... I travel every week for work. Usually, I stay in a Marriott or a Hilton because I like to use the points for vacation. This year, for the trade show in San Diego I thought it would be fun to try the Hard Rock Hotel since it is so close to the convention center and it was Superbowl weekend. And I was able to convince the other seven guys in my company to get rooms as well. So even though that week rooms were in the $300-$400 dollar range we all agreed it would be fun. And when we arrived on Sunday that is where all the fun stopped. I was shocked by the lack of empathy on the part of the managers. I am not sure if they are burnt out, or just do not care anymore. I mean, when we ask for some food after traveling all day only to be told that it was Superbowl and we would have to pay extra for a table, I lost my mind. I could get it if it were a sports bar and it was busy but, there were at best, ten people in there. So when I ask to make an exception and he says no, we just leave. Then only to come back at half time and now they have changed the policy and food for everyone. (good call Louis, we spent $950 up the street). Then when I did not have hot water for TWO DAYS no one offered a solution. They just had "Zoey" my personal assistant, constantly text me to say, "sorry" and they are "working on the issue". Now to be fair, Justine and Kristin are great and clearly they know how to be a good server and help you to enjoy your stay. I could go into the rest but, I really don't want to so my suggestion is to stay FAR AWAY and go to a Marriott up the street. And yes, we all did move hotels for the last night and they were all friendly and helpful......and yes.....They had hot water.

Dear jlivesay3483, We love that you and your co-workers decided to try something new and that you were looking for a unique and fun adventure in San Diego. We do regret the impression left with you was anything less than exceptional and that you left us earlier than anticipated. We are revisiting our dining policies when big events are occurring and we are disappointed you were not provided with a relaxing area to unwind and dine after a long day of travel. We can certainly understand your frustrations. With regard to the hot water issues. We were aware of the problem and have since made the necessary repairs. We understand how this may have made things uncomfortable for you and we wish we had ensured a more enjoyable stay for you all. Thank you for the valued feedback. It is our hope you will consider us for another visit in the future and we promise a much-improved experience. Travel well. Courtney G. Director of Guest Service

We stayed in a double suite during Autumn 2019.
Having previously stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel, Tenerife, we were anticipating a 'rock star' experience at the San Diego Hotel. Overall, we were disappointed with our stay. Although the rooms and layout are of a good quality, the hotel was overall lacking in the small touches and higher quality you would expect of a hard rock. Small things such as the interactive TV in the rooms not working (and being told that these functions which appear on screen don't actually work), the promotional material regarding a RockSpa and not actually being able to find any sort of spa, finding it hard to justify an 'all access pass' for an extra $25 when the room is already over 300 GBP a night, being charged $4 to bring hot water to your room for tea (due to there not being a facility of boil water in your room), the Mary Janes breakfast voucher not working and having to be refunded after the fact. All of these niggles may appear minor, however after staying at other Hard Rock Hotels, we had a level of expectation which wasn't met. We didn't believe the hotel experience and quality justified the price or the Hard Rock brand.
On a side note, one particular member of staff, Brooke, went above and beyond to provide a customer service which we appreciated. After having found out we had been recently engaged, she provided a bottle of bubbly to our room, which was a pleasant and thoughtful surprise.
It has changed our view of Hard Rock Hotels as a whole, and we would be hard pushed to stay again.

Wow so much to say. We researched all the options for a nice hotel to stay at during our wedding weekend. We decided on the Hardrock because it has always had a good reputation and we wanted more square footage to be able to have our wedding party and photographers in the room while getting ready for the big day. When we arrived the valet and staff were very friendly but the room was horrific. Keep in mind we booked one of the VIP Rock n Roll Suites which was over $1k a night and we were planning to stay Thursday - Sunday. With paying that amount we honestly figured it would be a nice room. The furniture was all damaged, the carpet was disgusting brown, the TV and shelving were all scuffed with the finish half off and wood pieces showing. Then the wall in the living room had brown stains all down it. We called the manager of the hotel and they put us on with the Director of VIP services and they said they would show us a different comparable room. We saw 3 other rooms and every single one had the same furniture that had tears and stains all over it, same brain stains down the wall, and same over all dirty appearance. Then they said they could upgrade us to their platinum for $500 more so we looked at that room and it too was the same dirty! I was absolutely shocked. I finally got the manager of the hotel on the phone and I explained I was having a photographer come to photograph for the wedding preparation the next day and didn’t want the brown stains on the wall or the tattered furniture in the photos. He was very professional and offered to have their staff switch out the furniture and clean the room as best they could while we were at our rehearsal dinner that Thursday evening. We thanked him and told him the hours we would be gone. We got back that night and not ONE THING had been done. No one had set foot into the room. We were getting married the following day on Friday and were so disappointed that my fiancé walked down to the Pendry the next morning and booked one of their suites. Not only did they accommodate us last minute but they let us check in early so we could move everything the morning prior to the wedding. I will NEVER stay at another Hardrock again. Not only was the hotel accommodation horrific, but to tell us you are going to rectify the situation then do absolutely nothing?! I called the next day to check out and they said “oh did no one do anything? Sorry about that”. So bad. This is not how you treat customers. The Pendry was absolutely incredible and went above and beyond to accommodate us on our special weekend. Don’t stay at the Hardrock in San Diego!

Spent a week at the Hard Rock San Diego. Went to the lobby after the first night to ask a couple questions about restaurant hours (restrictions due to Covid). While talking to the Clerk, I mentioned I had read rave reviews about the GM Rob & inquired if he was in. Rob heard me & came to greet me with a “goodie bag of items”. He then upgraded our room to a King suite with a wrap around balcony and offered us a $25 food credit for Mary Janes restaurant (which we forgot to even use). We inquired about a room for my daughter in laws family as we were all meeting at Cafe’ Sevilla for Thanksgiving dinner & didn’t want them having to drive 3 hours to get home after dinner. Rob offer us an awesome discount on a room for her family for TWO nights directly across from our room. The whole family had the BEST Thanksgiving ever. ALL of the Hard Rock staff were friendly & helpful. From Rob to the clerk in the Gift Shop. Even the night Security staff (especially Lourdes-who took pics of my daughter and I).
I expected so much less of this trip due to Covid restrictions, but the staff at the Hard Rock made it a perfect vacation for us. Especially Rob! Will definitely stay there again!

I have stayed at he Hard Rock San Diego twice now. The location is great if you are going on a business trip to the Convention Center because it is directly across the street and/or if you wanted to catch a Baseball game or a concert at the Petco Park, its the next block over. It is also in the heart of the Gaslamp District and if you like to party or if you would like to have many options for restaurants/bars, this is the place for you. However, if you are a light sleeper, I suggest requesting a room on the east/back side of the building where you will not hear the train/trolley all night long. I did not have a car but the Valet parking is very quick and friendly. The building and rooms are very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Starbucks is attached to the building for your morning cup of joe or they have a breakfast/lunch diner in the lobby. There are also 2 other restaurants in the Lobby. They have a Hard Rock gift shop that is open during the day.

Hard Rock Hotel has a terrific location at the beginning of 5th Avenue Gaslamp area with a green line trolley stop right across the street. It is within walking distance from many bars and restaurants, and just steps from the convention center. The hotel is very clean and housekeeping does a very thorough job. When we needed something, it was taken care of in minutes. We had a studio room with a king size bed. The room was a nice size and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very nice. The shower was awesome! The WiFi was excellent and elevators were fast, quiet, and smooth. We were on the 12th floor and rarely waited more than a few seconds for an elevator. The roof top pool and lounge area is very nice. My husband enjoyed swimming laps in the heated pool. The only problem was that the pool and cabana area were closed a few times during our stay due to "private" parties. Fortunately, the concierge adjusted our resort fees to address the issue. During our week stay at Hard Rock Hotel we used the MTS bus to get to and from Balboa Park. There was a stop just up the street at 5th and Broadway. We also easily walked up and down the Gaslamp area to restaurants for breakfast and dinner, as well as down harbor drive to Seaport Village and the harbor area. The hotel is modern and the staff are very helpful. If in town again we would happily stay there again.

The hotel was fine. But when I checked in I was told that my credit card was being charged an additional and mandatory $25/day for a "resort fees". When I asked what this for I was told the pool and fitness center, but it's winter and too cold to swim. (also what hotel charges $25/day because they have a pool and fitness center?) When I asked what else receptionist didn't know. I said I was there for a meeting and didn't have time for any resort items, but receptionist told me this was mandatory. NOWHERE on my reservation was it mentioned that the actual rate I'd be charged was not what I'd agreed to pay. Now looking VERY closely way down into the hotel website it says each guest gets a $25 "access pass", not that they are going to add this to your bill whether you asked for it or not!!! For std items like very slow internet, in room music... Really? Very deceptive marketing that is designed to CHEAT guests. I'll never stay at any Hard Rock hotel since this is totally dishonest. I really felt ripped off and expect I'm not alone here.

Yes, a deposit for incidentals is required at check in. $100 additional deposit is required for standard rooms per night or $250 additional deposit is required for Rock Star Suites per night. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

We do not have a casino at our property. San Diego does have a few casinos. They are some card rooms nearby, but they do not offer electronic gaming. Traditional casinos are about 40 minutes away.
