AC/DC Nearly Hit No. 1 On A Billboard Chart This Week

Following

AC/DC can always be found on some Billboard chart. The rock band doesn’t disappear for very long from any one ranking…and even when they do, their music can usually be found elsewhere. This week, the group watches as one of their biggest smashes nearly returns to the No. 1 spot on a ranking they’ve conquered before…but they’re beaten by just one space.

“Thunderstruck” bolts up the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart this week. The tune, which is one of AC/DC’s most instantly recognizable, lifts from No. 5 to No. 2.

AC/DC has previously topped the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart with “Thunderstruck,” and they nearly did so again this week. Instead, the tally is ruled by Disturbed’s “Sound of Silence,” which is experiencing a very special boom thanks to an inventive remix.

Interest in “Thunderstruck” is noticeably up, and not only on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. On the similar Rock Digital Song Sales ranking, AC/DC’s single returns. Last week, it was nowhere to be found, and now it’s back at No. 14.

An unrelated album from the Australian rock band is also present on a handful of charts this frame–though it doesn’t feature “Thunderstruck,” as some might expect. Back in Black, which is the group’s most successful project in many ways, can be found on a trio of tallies, but its performance on them is mixed.

Back in Black falls down the Billboard 200 this week, slipping from No. 172 to No. 179. The decades-old title did manage to move another 8,451 equivalent units, which is impressive for a set that’s been around for as long as AC/DC’s classic has by now.

Over on the genre-specific tallies, Back in Black is performing much better. The title is a non-mover on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, where it earns another week at No. 42.

On the Top Hard Rock Albums tally, the project manages to improve, but not by much. On that list, Back in Black lifts from No. 10 to No. 9. Amazingly, despite the fact that it’s been living on that hard rock-only chart for coming up on 500 weeks, it has never managed to reach the throne.
