I am someone who has been involved with MAO for about 20 years now both as a titleholder and a volunteer, and I have never encountered a bullying as bad as this. A contestant who is preparing for a state pageant came to me for some advice, she, as well as about 10 other girls, have received threatening text messages from another contestant. These messages consist of fat and skinny shaming, death threats, and messages telling these girls to harm themselves. It completely goes against the MAO code of conduct. The phone number these messages are sent from trace directly back to one specific contestant. She has turned over everything to her state board, but the board isnt doing anything. Shes been advised by others to go directly to the national board, but doesnt want to see the state directors get in trouble because she loves them. I told her to go to law enforcement and she did, but she doesnt want to press criminal charges. She said she would prefer this person get mental health help rather than see them face jail time. This bully has caused girls to not return to MAO and has terrified girls who are planning on competing at states this summer. The contestant who reach out to me for advice said shes scared, not so much for herself, but for the girls who are afraid to speak up and come to her asking to remain anonymous. She said she knows she has probably quashed all chances of her winning because shes now the face of the drama, but she doesnt want any of this to come back on the other girls. Now Im hoping this state board isnt so awful as to keep her from winning because she stood up for herself and others, but I dont know them. Shes always spoke highly of them, but now has no idea who she can trust because she feels like she is being ousted and shunned by people on the organization, including her previous local directors. I truly believe this young lady has a shot at winning if the state board doesnt keep it from her, I think shes exactly what this organization need right now, especially since shes the only one willing to stand up to this bully. But as for the bullying being handled I dont know how to help her. And right now thats my biggest priority is keeping her and those other girls safe. Any advice on how to help wrangle this situation?

I came to volunteer for the MAO in the mid 80s through the 90s, and was a big soap opera fan too. So I loved following the young ladies who competed in the MAO and USA pageant systems, as they entered the acting world through soaps. I know there were dozens and dozens who did act in soaps, so I thought it would be a fun thread to recall them. My first two offerings: Mary Ellen Stuart, Miss Arkansas 1982, who competed against Debbie Maffet, and was a top ten finalist that year. She took over the role of Frannie on As The World Turns, from future Oscar winner Julianne Moore, and played the role from 1989-1992. Gorgeous lady. And I also submit Bobbie Eakes, Miss Georgia 1982. Bobbie also competed at Miss America that same year, and shared a spot in the top ten with Mary Ellen. She then went on to first play Macy on The Bold & Beautiful from 1989-2003, but also played Krystle on All My Children from 2003-2011. Both gorgeous, multi talented, and were great in these roles! Who else can you remember?

Subject: Drag Race - can we learn something?

I wanted to share the dollar amounts of the contestants on RuPauls Drag Race from this weekend. I know this doesnt seem appropriate for this board , BUT IT IS. How does this compare to Miss America? The dollars amounts are possible because they get sponsors and they get sponsors because the show is entertaining and because it is a perennial favorite at the Emmy Awards. Miss America is certainly on a better trajectory than Miss USA, but we are watching contestants we have no connection to (not the case on Drag Race) wearing boring fashion (not the case on Drag Race) performing boring talents (not the case on Drag Race) and answering questions based on what they think Americas best Christians want to hear rather than honest, gut-felt responses (not the case on Drag Race). Maybe the leadership can learn something by exploring other models? Plus, in addition to the dollar winnings, every one of these contestants will tour nationally and launch a career. Some have toured internationally; some have launched careers in entertainment. Here are the dollar amounts:

Nymphia Wind $218,950
Sapphira Cristl $62,400
Plane Jane $45,100
Q $12,700
Morphine Love Dion $52,700
Dawn $2,700
Mhi'ya Iman LePaige $4,050
Plasma $12,000
Xunami Muse $14,500
Megami $3,250
Geneva Karr $3,250
Amanda Tori Meating $2,000
Mirage $2,000
Hershii LiqCour-Jet $2,000

Louisiana: Sydney Taylor (Miss Louisiana Teen USA 2020; 4th runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2020)
Mississippi: Kaylee Brooke McCollum (Miss Mississippi Teen USA 2019; 3rd runner-up at Miss Teen USA 2019)

Sydney became the first fourth runner-up to win the state title and the first in her state to both win Teen and Miss on her first attempt since 2014, and seventh overall, she is the second 2020 Teen after Annika Sharma from last year. Kaylee (or KB) is the third 2019 Teen to win the ticket to Miss after Caitlyn Vogel (Medalen) from 2021 and Jenna Howlett from last year. She is the fifth third runner-up to win the state title and is the second former runner-up in that year's Teen class after Vogel herself.

Those two former Teens were previously runners-up in two separate years, respectively, the first to do so since 2021.

Lets break this down so I understand. It Specifically says competing as a State Titleholder at nationals in January 2026, you must meet the birth year criteria as shown below.

For Miss America birth years 2008- 1998

2026-1998 = 28.

So 1997 participants still have one more year after Miss America 2025 is crowned. Correct? 2025-1997 =28. So they changed it back to make 1997 participates have until they are 28.

Thats how I am understanding it. If Im wrong, kindly correct me. Thank you.

It has come to my attention that Miss California 2024, Sabrina Lewis, has participated in a show called "Lovers and Liars" (also known as "F Girl Island"). Is this permissible according to the state contract? It seems highly inappropriate for a state titleholder to engage in such activities. Furthermore, reports indicate that she participated in the show without informing her state director, and the filming took place just one month into her reign as Miss California within the Miss America System. Thoughts?

Miss CA seems to have been on the gender swapped version of Fu*k Boy Island this last summer post winning the state pageant. She posted the promo on her personal page as if this is something an MAO titleholder should be participating in??

Even worse she introduces herself as Miss CA DURING the show! In what world is this acceptable? Girls have been decrowned for worse, if the CA board doesnt fix this now they will have lost a long time supporter!!

This is what truly makes me so upset about this organization and why so many, now including myself have and will walk away.

My family and I were longtime volunteers within a particular state organization from around 2008 to 2012. (who in recent months has seen a complete 180-degree turn in leadership, resignations, etc)

We took a step back and moved onto other things, but I recently noticed that this particular state could probably use some help with marketing/website design (which is what my degree is in.)

So, I sent a message to one of the three co-executive directors and was literally left on read. No response like, Thanks for your interest, we have that covered, etc. NOTHING.

It's like if you're not part of the clique or they think they can use you and ring you out like a wet washcloth, they want nothing to do with your or no help. But yet, all you here is we're a family and volunteers make the program, etc.

Well, then prove it.

Subject: Check the Miss America website eligibility. They changed the wording for the age requirement. 1997 women can compete if they are 28 during their reign and wont turn 29. Ex: a June or July 1997 candidate can compete

Before you argue or correct me- please go see the updated age requirements online for yourself.

Subject: Why raise the age limit just to lower it? Per the MAO website for currently cycle 25 age is 18-28, but cycle 26 is 17-27. Local directors seem unaware of change . Feeling bad for those 1997 girls who thought they had this year and next year to compete
