According to Buses At Work, route 55 was introduced in October 1969. RT's from Leyton T garage worked the route until October 1972, when DMS's took over. Maybe someone can identify this RT, seen in Mare Street between those two dates? RM's, then RML's were introduced from 1981 to 1987. See pic 166.

Taken at the bottom end of Amhurst Road, close to Hackney Central station and Clapton bus garage, an RTL (id anyone?) moves past a line of parked cars, including a Morris Oxford and is followed by a Sunbeam Rapier. Route 253A was short lived, operating from January 1964 to March 1968. It shadowed the established 253 route from Finsbury Park, but then diverged at Hackney, working to Old Street, Shoreditch and Clerkenwell Green. The buildings were demolished a few years ago and at the moment…
