GL:BWP is a big, ambitious movie, the most ambitious movie from DC Animated since Batman: The Long Halloween (Parts 1 and 2). "Ambitious" is difficult to pull off. In the past, DC Animated has only been able to pull it off three times, with three GREAT films: Wonder Woman, All-Star Superman, and Batman: The Long Halloween. In the case of this movie, they are able to pull of about 70-75% of it, but not in its entirety. And thats why you're seeing so many mixed reviews. So if you're a perfectionist who is only satisfied with the best, you might want to look elsewhere. However, if you are a little more forgiving, you might actually end up really enjoying this movie. First of all, the graphics and animation are die to for. This is one of the prettiest movies DC Animated has ever put out. The music is likewise terrific, appropriately weird and eerie in some places, heroic and triumphant in others. One neat thing about the story is that it is a continuation of two previous DC Animated features, specifically Green Lantern: First Flight and the DC Showcase Short Adam Strange (you will definitely need to be familiar with both those movies before seeing this one). Another great thing about this movie is the cool cameos of a ton of old DC characters from the past. I don't want to spoil things to much, so I'll mention just two of them: Hawkgirl, our beloved Shiera Hall from Justice League: The Animated Series, is back, and as fierce as ever (and as foxy too: in this movie they give her a sumptuous mane of waist long red hair -- be still my beating heart!); and also Despero, the three-eyed villain from Justice League: The Animated Series also makes an appearance as one of Sinestro's cronies, with cool new telekinetic powers. On the downside, the movie is a tad too long, and suffers from a number of minor mistakes and inconsistencies along the way. But if you can tolerate these, I think you will end up enjoying the film -- not one of DC's best, too be sure, but certainly not one of their worst either, like Injustice or Justice League: War. Soldily above average, and ultimately very enjoyable. Recommended.

The storyline was fantastic as a whole. Is it perfectly aligned to the comics, no. Is it aligned to the old cartoon... kinda? They pay hommage to both, keep it current with what's going on with DC, and manage NOT to reduce the female and ethnic characters to one dimensional people.
It's a bit predictable as far as the overall storyline, but watching the characters and their friendships grow over the movie's course is super rewarding. Nice room for a sequel as well.

Origins story on John Stewart for anyone wondering how he became Green Lantern and what became of his predecessor; Hal Jordan. I found the pacing a bit slow, including the fight sequences. The animation is good but not enough to overcome the storyline. Maybe it’s just me, but this is another superhero movie I’ve watched where a good number of heroes and villains are killed. (Spoiler alert.) I pine for those old style cartoon-movie where superheroes survive the story and the villains “live to face justice”. So, if you like your favorite character (hero or villain) to “live and fight another day”, skip this movie. However, if you prefer to see them drop like flies, all I can say is; “Another one bites the dust.” Enjoy.
