Decent but touch tanks were closed
Very disappointed that 2/3 touch exhibits were closed. It was barely an hour after opening and they didn’t have the jelly fish or star fish tanks open. The only open tank was the sturgeon and the only fish that came near the surface staff said not to touch because it was injured. Very disappointing for our toddler and the adults. The other big disappointment was the otters weren’t out. The rest was fine the large tank is impressive but it’s all local fish. They do have more salt water fish and animals now and that’s really what kids want to see.

Great Aquarium that will surprise you!
My wife and I love to visit aquariums around the world and in the US, so on our honeymoon to Duluth, we had to include a stop at this aquarium. We did not have high expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised at how nice this aquarium was! Coming from Chattanooga, where we have the sister aquariums that feel larger than life, we are used to smaller aquariums not living up to that hype. We really enjoyed our visit here, the aquarium had a great layout, had many unique animals and exhibits that we had not seen before, and took us a couple of hours to get through. We were very glad we chose to go!

    Much improved
We last visited this aquarium about 10 years ago. It was not very good back then. There just wasn’t much to it. We went back today, and thought it much improved. More exhibits, including some exotic ocean life. Also several touch tanks. I felt it was definitely worth the cost this time around.

This was included in a package that included a boat tour, train ride and the Aquarium. The Aquarium is very interactive. It allows people to touch and see things at are in the great lakes. It also includes a lot of history of the great lakes. You even learn about the dangers to our fresh waters face with parasites. My son really loved makes waves with the wave machine and learning how locks and dams work.

This is a very cool and informative museum. We parents enjoyed it as much as the kids (and our kids are older).

There is plenty to see as an adult who loves water and it's inhabitants but I could watch the little aquarium with sea horses for 15 minutes. There is also a large tank with cold water fish in it. It's not a super flashy salt water aquarium... it's a nice museum that gives a lot of information about north lake history.

We have visited here 3 times in the past 7 years. A few things have changed - we loved the sea horse exhibit and now they have only one tank. Also there was a touch tank for sting rays and that is now gone. But you can still touch the sturgeon. We love the large tank full of local fresh water fish. They normally do a few educational talks -see if you can sit for one it is worth it. Note we are from the Great Lakes area and my family fish on a weekly basis winter and summer so this places is just very cool to us. Note to Girl Scout leaders - we did an overnight stay here in 2008 and it was fantastic. They offered some really great experiences for the girls and we slept in the "sea horse area". The girls still talk about it as one of our favorite trips and we have done a different trip and location every year. Worth it to check and see if they still offer this!

We went to the aquarium as part of a 3-activity coupon. It was our least favorite. It would probably be more enjoyable for people who like fishing. If the otters had made an appearance, we might have enjoyed it more, but for some reason they weren't around. There is a lot of information posted around the aquarium. A fairly large part of it at the beginning was about the evolution of marine life in the area, which didn't impress me. If you like to see freshwater fish, along with a few turtles and snakes, go ahead, but it's not as colorfully impressive as ocean fish and reefs.

This is a good place to spend a couple of hours especially if you don't have anything else to do. We visited on a Friday afternoon and it wasn't crowded we took our time and it was pretty neat. A good amount of fish and a few animals. Easy parking. Is a bit expensive for what it is.

Find a coupon because it cost $10.50 for a 4 year old to visit and $16.50 for adults. There are some neat things for kids to see and do but it is way over priced for what you get. Really taking your time you could see the entire museum in less than 2 hours/ Parts were broken and areas needed to be cleaned up better. They happened to have 6 buses of students all in there at one time while we were there so everything was overrun with kids. If you pay half price it might be worth it other than that don't waste your money.

We went when the aquarium was new and we normally love these. On the plus side it does focus on the lake and local species. But you can take your time and be done within 2 hours. Short for the price.

We visited with two little kids (age 7 and 4) which cost us over $50 just to get in the door! I wish there had been a coat check or lockers but there didn't appear to be something available to use with all our winter stuff on. But the exhibits are just terrific. Really nicely done and informative. They kept our two kids interested and engaged. They had some very interactive areas with water and boats, a tree you could climb with a slide down. I think older children might be bored but ours were very happy. Really the only downside is that we spent all of one hour there (it is not a very large aquarium) with no meal options (some snacks in the shop) and it was really too expensive for such a short visit. I also was not overly impressed with the gift shop. I tend to think aquariums and museums can have fabulous shops but this one just kind of missed the mark.

Admission was $16.50 for each adult (I believe this is more twice what Shedds aquarium general admission is). There was a small otter pond but no otter to see while we were there. There was also a small aviary to walk through in which we saw a few ducks and one other black bird. They did have some neat hands on exhibits like the create your own wave one and a big map of the Great Lakes with water that was interactive. Great location and place for learning if the exhibits were kept up nicely and the prices were set at what the visit was worth. We were disappointed.
