I wish I had a time machine. I would teleport a small delegation of Ben Franklin, Tom Jefferson, and Button Gwinnett from their sweltering labors at Independence Hall — then known as the Pennsylvania state house — to a Drag Queen Story Hour hosted by Lil Miss Hot Mess (“The People’s Drag Queen”) reading from her best-selling book, The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish, to a roomful of six-year-old offspring birthed by America’s current Progressive ruling elite. Here, I would explain, is what it has come to.
Have today’s elites in our country, marinated in social justice and frantically signaling their goodness-and-virtue, gone perhaps a tad too far in their quest to liberate the populace from boundaries previously established for human behavior? It’s one thing, you know, to throw off the onerous yoke of a British King and his agents, with their vexing taxes, despotic harassments, abuses and usurpations. It’s perhaps another thing “empowering” children to bethink themselves monomaniacs of sexual confusion, years before they’re mentally equipped to devine the conundrums of sex. What, after all, is a “hot mess?”
Well, Google’s top search answer, from the Oxford Languages website, defines “hot mess” thusly: a person or thing that is spectacularly unsuccessful or disordered, especially one that is a source of peculiar fascination. Okay, I see: this metaphor signifies what the ruling elites would like our nation to become! And, more generally, western civ — that agglomeration of fusty creeds, shopworn traditions, oppressive laws, dubious virtues, and racist arts. Mission accomplished, then!
On July 4, 2022, America is a hot mess, but exactly! Are we not now spectacularly unsuccessful and disordered — in body, mind, polity, culture, mores, convictions, and aspirations? What is functioning in America these days? Absolutely nuthin’, ugh, say it again, to quote a song lyric of my bygone youth, when our project in Vietnam had gone off the rails. Of course, that was then and this is now. Back then, say 1970, we were the exuberant avatar of Modernity and the rest of the world was still a little groggy from World War Two. In that America, a man could easily support a family, we never gave a thought to our oil supply, and the doctor would see you now.
This birthday of the republic we are on track to going medieval, or something that at least rhymes with it. I’m regretful as anyone to leave so much baggage behind, but frankly it’s been a long time since all the Fun, Fun, Fun was over and Daddy took the T-bird away. Daddy himself is gone, along with all representations of him. Donald Trump tried to play the role in a movie called The Years before Covid-19 but the critics savaged him. Anyone who dares to try to be Daddy in America now will be Me-tooed and J-Sixed to a fare-the-well, we’ve been warned. In your New World Order of Bill Gates and the Schwabenklaus’s Great Re-set, we are all expected to be a hot mess (so the exterminations can proceed without resistance).
I, for one, refuse to comply with all that insolent wickedness and urge you to join with me in making something decent, honorable, and workable in the vast salvage yard that America will be when we expel the degenerate maniacs who broke it to pieces. You do not have to be a hot mess. You can, for instance, be a man. Or, another instance, be a woman. These binaries of human reproduction can produce new humans. A man, a woman, and children will comprise a family, a good start in rebuilding the organism called a society.
The chief duty of men and women in this future will be doing everything possible to ensure that their children do not become hot messes. Their duties beyond that entail the search for purpose, meaning, and happiness, and building institutions to support those ends. We can start with the language we use amongst ourselves to make sense of who we are and where we are. Our language must have a rigorous correlation with reality, which makes it possible to determine what things are true and what are not true. The time will soon be at hand when it is possible to tell who is speaking the truth and who is not. A battle may ensue over this, and those on the side of the truth will prevail. Consider these propositions as you flip your burgers and hoist your malty brews today. Think of the men who gathered at Independence Hall two hundred and forty-six year ago and the trepidation they felt facing the unknown as they signed their names, pledged their fortunes, and committed their sacred honor to a great endeavor.

Reestablishment of the family unit as the building block of society is issue number one once the rascals are thrown out of Washington over the next few years.
Today, all you CFNers, fight back against the liberals that lie and cheat. I mean your families and friends. Do not just kow tow to their elitist, BS ideas and perversions. Especially the kids, if we want the future to be more normal and less perverse, we need to get through to the future people.
Another is the schools, again the kids. We need classical education to be paramount again. Learning about the past forms the picture of the present and the basis for the future. In JHKs words, we need our common culture back. How to get that? Teach the kids. the Left has had fifty years of manipulation of the education system to turn it into the cesspool it is now, it will take the same to reset it. Virginia is a good start.
The next conservative swing in DC, if there is one, should eliminate the education department. The federal government has no business being in education. Its only desire is social engineering of this country and between you and me, I do not want those dunderheads in DC anywhere near my kids.
As far as elections and politics go John, I do believe that those in command now have enough power and control to assure that “elections” are totally in their power to control, alter, and override. Go to Greg Hunter’s “USA Watchdog.com” and watch Martin Armstrong’s interview, the man is amazing. Martin claims that from what he is seeing in his Socrates computer program and what he is hearing in the circles that he moves in, there will be another October surprise.
That surprise is reported to be an executive order by Dopey Joe authorizing all of the people residing in America, whether they are documented or not to be able to vote and it will be put out close enough to the election to prevent the Supremes from blocking it.
Now, I understand that we have all heard some crazy conspiracy theories in our day about cancelling elections and the like, but with Dopey Joe’s track record, starting on his very first day, this is clearly a possibility. The old idiot will do anything they tell him to do and that cannot be argued, can it?
In the scenario you describe i suspect the Biden gang’s goal is to insert so much confusion, chaos and dissension into the process that the election is not certified in half the places. Many states and localities would defy the federal order to let everyone vote. There are voter registration laws, after all!
The election overall would be nullified and tossed out. There are laws on the books giving emergency powers to a President. Hitler showed the way such measures can be used to entrench a new order. Yes, then things get ugly.

Perhaps the SCOTUS senses this danger of the Biden Regime making a dash for dictatorship to avoid being obliterated at the polls? Could this explain the sudden swift and hard move to the Right on recently decided cases – especially those involving gun rights and limits on federal power?
Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Barrett, Kavanaugh….and even occasionally, Roberts….seem to have gotten the memo. “IN CASE OF TYRANNY, BREAK GLASS AND MOVE HARD TO THE RIGHT.”
Normalcy bias tells me that this fear is likely to prove to have been overblown, but my paranoid side tells me that the 2020 Election Steal was merely the Fat Lady warming up for her final solo.
And so I continue to prepare to survive the worst that may come. All of y’all should too. If The Corpse goes full Bonaparte on us, then we should all look to our state governments to resist. Every able bodied man is a part of his state’s militia. Make yourself ready to fulfill this constitutional role if your state has good leadership and understands its duty to interpose the power of the state government between their citizens and an abusive federal behemoth gone rogue.

Something that is almost completely out of US Corp’s MSM is what’s happening with Russia and Ukraine. The Donbas/Luhansk regions have been secured by Russian forces but now zelensky and his nazis are firing long range weapons, that the biden show gave them, into Russian border cities, despite their ‘promises’ not to. And, the NATO country, Lithuania, continues to block Russian access to Kaliningrad. And, Uke is firing rockets into Belarus. All of this is setting up to invoke article 5, which means all out war between NATO (think US COrp) and the Russian alliance. Just in time to have a reason to cancel elections.
And to add to the stew, Saudi, Argentina, and Indonesia have all applied to become part of the BRICs financial system.
The only thing we have to celebrate today is our history.
Damn straight there will be no elections after the US provokes Russia into WW3. Nuclear war will interfere with the election process.
There is also the island of Svalbard which has a Russian population and a century-old treaty protecting them, but which Norway is now blockading. We know damn well whose orders they are following.

I quit watching Greg Hunter’s website after it became apparent–that his he puts his own agenda or worldview–first and foremost. For a supposed professional journalist to demean and often cut off his own guests one has to wonder if Hunter didn’t graduate from the Groucho Marx’s school of communications? If this isn’t case, why do you no longer see Dave Janda or Greg Mannarino among this MSM retread’s headliners). Personally, I like hearing the truth from sources allowed to speak their minds.

The Canadian province of Alberta has been talking about putting up a “firewall” between Edmonton and Ottawa as a way of thwarting our own Party of Chaos, the Liberals, for years. I think it’s a great way for the individual states to let Washington know they can’t just put their nose into everybody’s business . To put it into plain English, a “firewall” is a group of laws that allow provincial governments to ignore federal law when they think it adversely affects their citizens. Heck, with the ultra-nationalist and chauvinist government of Quebec continuing to hold the entire country hostage to its’ unreasonable demands, and Trudeau acquiescing like the pathetic despot he is, while trying to force legislation through parliament that eliminates freedom of speech online and using the national security apparatus to spy on its’ own citizens private phone conversations, the only way to effectively fight back against the bullies in the Biden and Trudeau administrations is to put them on notice that they are not the all-powerful beings they think they are.

My grandson was fortunate to have never spent as much as one second in any public schools. His parents “home-schooled” him in the back sections of some retail stores they owned. He completed all his lessons in less than half the time taken by his public schooled peers. At age nine after his schoolwork was done he would go out on the sales floor and help customers and even ring up sales. He ended up being able to act and speak like an adult at a very early age. He just picked it up naturally copying how his parents interacted with customers. The more he sold the larger his allowance became. Sales training was part of his education and he seemed to enjoy doing it. His early education included on the job experience in real time in the real world with real adults in front of him. That’s the type of education money can’t buy – and government can’t produce.

Yes, get the government out of education. Well, maybe not in *every* situation. I can think of one famous person who had an extremely good experience in gov’t sponsored education. And it was all accomplished without a single PhD in education being involved in it. I write about Admiral Farragut. He uttered the famous quote “Damn the torpedoes – full speed ahead!” He was born not far from Knoxville TN, and his dad was running riverboats down the Tennessee River and on over to and down the Mississippi. The boy was living on a riverboat, right there with his dad. At age nine Farragut joined the US Navy. At age 12 he held the rank of captain, and his first job was in sailing captured British warships back to port, freeing up other captains for combat duty. It seems the Navy taught the boy all the readin’, writin’, and cipherin’ he needed to know in order to navigate and keep a ship’s logbook. Think about what the average 9 year old boy is like today – and throw him into the Navy and see how it goes……..
The 4th of July seems to be quite muted this year. Even during the Covid lockdowns there were ffireworks going off all weekend in my neighborhood. This year I’ve only heard a pop or two. Perhaps such fripperies have had to be eliminated due to budget constraints. Even the weather has conspired to spoil it. It’s coll and overcast and raining intermittantly. Even the backyard barbeques won’t be much fun.
China makes the fireworks. Nuff said?
During the covid lockdown people in cities all over the county reported weeks of fireworks going off for hours every night.
That was not normal but it was not reported on by the self-identified ”legitimate” media, nor investigated in any of the cities.
Fireworks usually start at dark and go on for a couple of hours, but people in Brooklyn, Detroit, San Francisco, San Jose and other cities said that they were hearing explosions until 3 or 4 in the morning.
Again, this went on for weeks.
What was that? Why was it done?
Fireworks terrorize animals and a lot of people, but even people who usually aren’t bothered were bothered by that. I had a friend in Manhattan who slept in the closet with her dog every night to try to escape the noise.
Most of the places terrorized have anti-fireworks laws and that was during the lockdown, so where did they come from and who paid for them?
It was like the bricks that appeared pre-riot in certain cities.
I was unaware of that, Paula. I live in the suburbs, and some people set off their own here. It never goes into the early hours.
Yes, here also. It seemed to be only the big cities.
And as we’ve discussed, the sirens. Some of us compared our experience with hearing lots of sirens. Ambulances driving around with their sirens on but no one inside.
There was definitely a plan to instill terror, and yeah, why was it done? The only answer I got is to scare us into compliance with all that was coming.
It worked out pretty well for the WEF puppets. People complied.
@Paula D: YES! It was horrible! It went on for months. All night long, every night. Just as it would end, and I’d finally fall asleep, it would start up again at 2-3am. And they closed a lot of the streets to traffic (whose brilliant idea was _that?_ ) so they were blowing them off in the middle of the road. One night, they set a huge one off in the street right below my window. It was so loud, I screamed and screamed, and then burst into tears. I was actually shaking. All the neighbors rushed outside at 1 am and were furious. The cops didn’t want to come out, but they got so many calls, they finally did. It stopped for a while after that. They knew who it was. Homeless guy being housed in the motel across the street.
My poor, wonderful, sweet old dog, who I just lost to cancer 2 weeks ago, was absolutely terrified. He had PTSD well into the winter. Every night, when it got dark, he’d start pacing and being restless. I had to put him in the bathroom with the noisy fan on; it was the only thing that soothed him. Then it would quiet down, and he’d scratch on the door to come out. Then it would start up again. It was fucking Hell on Earth. In a way, I’m glad he passed before the 4th. At least he didn’t have to go thru another year of that.
And yeah, it’s definitely been more subdued this year. We’ll see how it is tonight.
I’m sorry about your dog. Yes, it is SO hard on dogs and other animals, but that year it drove people crazy also.
It only happened in cities as far as I could tell.
I did an unscientific poll on Facebook and people from cities all over the country reported it was happening there. Weirdly enough, not Seattle, although there were riots already going on there.
Where did a homeless guy get the money to pay for all that and where did he get them?

We had M80s going off, setting off car alarms. Cops did nothing.
Like you, I dashed outside one night at 2 a.m. to see what I could see, nothing. No laughing kids, no commotion, just relentless setting off of what sounded like bombs.
@Paula: Frisco, near the beach. It’s always been bad out here. Some years, the smoke was so bad it set off the building smoke alarm. But last year was above and beyond. I actually lost a friend because he said I complained about it too much.
@MaryQ: Same here: bombs. The car alarms go off all night long from the fireworks, and all day long from motorcycles and cars. Gas is way over $6/gal, but they still cruise around.
Fireworks cost money. Once the nation is experiencing not your ordinary everyday poverty, but what’s called “grinding poverty” – people will be using what little money they have for things like shoes, clothing, and food. There will be no money available or left to buy fireworks.
Woodchuck- no one then had money to buy fireworks either, especially the volume needed to blow them off for hours every night, for weeks and months.
Plus, as I said, they are illegal in the cities they were blown off in and this was during the lockdown.
They had to have been provided to them.

I don’t think that the people in the cities being subjected to it were oblivious. The reason I took the poll was that people in various cities were complaining about it.
But I think that each person thought it was only in their neighborhood.
It wasn’t. It was widespread, across the entire country, but only in the cities as far as I could tell.
The self-identified ”legitimate” media didn’t cover it, so most people didn’t know what was happening. If a tree falls in the forest and all.
It’s like the vax deaths going on now. People that get their news from the ”legit” media have no idea of the death toll.
A comparison between the values of those in 1776 vs. today brings a tear to the eye.

Agreed, that democracy isn’t working. At least the way it is practiced today. A total lack of common sense and a double dose of total corruption is the order of the day. What to do. revolution, benevolent dictator, I don’t know. A new nationalist 3rd party is my main choice of the way to go. No former dem or rep need apply. If a politician doesn’t vote or govern as expected, then immediately remove them from office by whatever means necessary.
Democracy does not work. The FF knew that. That is why we are a republic.
Democracy leads to dictatorship as a small group or one man has always been able to whip up the troops.
Our Constitution works because it blocks the power avenues that Democracy encourages.
Obviously most people shouldn’t be voting since most people aren’t qualified – and that is true even in a healthy population what to speak of ours.

I’ll offer these new citizens know more about the country they chose, and how it is supposed to function, than many of the people born here.
Almost everyone with whom I discuss the subject wants a “benevolent dictator”. However, every damned one of them imagines this dictator differently. (And none can cite an example of a “benevolent dictator” from history.) What they really mean is, “I want someone in charge who will do things my way without question or opposition. Ultimately, not “benevolent” at all.
When I talk with my millennial daughter’s friends, I am always shocked that, despite all graduating from top 20/30 universities, they know little to nothing of their history. They have only a vague concept of the founding fathers and are obsessed with some of them owning slaves (as if that completely negates all of their accomplishments). They have no idea who Gershwin was; they no nothing of the history of Western art. And, the history they know is focused on how Western MAN oppressed the native peoples.
I’m not a big fan of JRNyquist’s theories, but I am starting to believe that the goals of the COMINTERN, i.e. taking us from within, have almost been accomplished. Mostly only boomers seem to understand this and most of us are within a decade or so of our next incarnation, and pose no threat.

@BRH — what will be covered is how the Chinese were imported, used to build the railroad then denied citizenship, all of which is true but, it’s not all of the truth as you correctly pointed out.
When I was in undergrad college in the early 70’s, a liberal arts education meant ‘learning to learn’ in a well rounded set of 1-2yrs courses in history, english, math, foreign language, art, music, ie humanities; followed by a major in an area of interest. Now it seems to mean indoctrination into a politically liberal communist point of view with a focus on hatred of one’s parent culture. Somebody took the word liberal way too literally.
@neurodoc — I saw brief segment on the news one night about 10 years ago where a reporter went to Texas Tech campus with three questions:
Who was the President during the Civil War?
Approximately, when did it start?
What was the Emancipation Proclamation?
Only one Asian student knew the answer to one of the questions — Lincoln was the President. He reported of the 20 students asked at random, this was it. It’s hopeless.
Given that was 10 yrs ago, imagine how bad it is today. The COMINTERN has surely been at work, as they said they would, converting a whole generation to their point of view. i.e. America bad, military bad, no authority can be trusted X them.
It doesn’t work anywhere. The average lifespan of a republic is around 250 years. If we are an average nation, and there’s no reason to believe we are not, we’re alread bumping into into our expiration date. According to history and statistics, humans aren’t capable of voting in responsible and capable leaders for the long haul. Instead, what happens is the psychopaths always float up to the top levels of governmental power and the country/empire fades away or collapses. An elected leadership is just renting the country for a short period of time so they can conduct looting operations. A monarchy, on the other hand, *owns* the country, they aren’t leasing it. And a monarchy naturally takes good care of what it owns, it has an incentive to pass down a healty and prosperous country to the hiers. An elected government could care less. It’s not their country.

Sorry to say it, but we are getting exactly what we deserve. I had no kids myself, but if I did, I would be spending the rest of my life in prison, because I personally would have killed the drag queer that tried to teach my 6 yr old to become one too. Then the principle and teacher who allowed it to happen. Ya, rest of my life in prison, and proud of it. If a few people did that, how many drag queer hours would we be having now, you think……

I agree that, when the financial system and economy contract to the point of hunger and heat for ordinary people, changes will happen. Some say that this disorder is planned and that the changes are willed by elites, but that is hard to believe. What is the incentive for elites to destroy the very systems they need to continue their control?
Because the elites will always have electricity and all of the comforts they want, tucked away in their palatial estates on private islands and isolated countries, surrounded by clowns with Uzi’s and sunglasses that protect them. As promised-I am re-reading the Long Emergency and finding it more prescient and alarming that it was in 2005. We are witnessing the end of the oil supply. I stand corrected. I mis spoke about the connection between the time of how long oil is going last and the shortages now, and JHKs statements on both.
My intention was true though. BPs estimate that if we continue to use oil at our today rate it will last 53 years, ie 2075. Natural gas ten years longer. Others say as soon as 2050. Oil usage has to slow down as the price rises and adjustment happens, so oil may last until the end of the century. ALL oil.
Apology to JHK, I thought I had read that prediction from either TLE or Too Much Magic. I will restate and say that BP is the optimist.

Walter, it saddens me greatly that the memories I formed during my innocent and joyful childhood, that have sustained me through my life, are being denied to those who are children now. They will never have had anything like it, and their lives will reflect that incalculable loss. There’s always – “the rest of the story”. And the question can be asked, “what does this day actually represent?” That’s similar to asking random people what does “Chrisitanity” mean? In the early 1800’s what did July 4th mean? Did it mean a celebration of the rights of free people to form their own sovereign government and be free from the control or influence of a monarchy? That the individual states had formed a voluntary union of states that came to function as our federal government? So what happened when legitimately elected state governments decided by voting to leave the union? What happened was military force held the union together instead of the will of the people as expressed by the people representing them in state halls. In 1865 the old republic, held together by the power of the ballot box, changed into and empire held together by military force. At that point bullet boxes had made the decision. Do we have a real republic? Or do we have an empire held together by force? If it’s an empire, these things all have expiration dates on them. The average lifespan of a republic is around 250 years. If we’re an average republic at 246 years old, then there’s a good chance we’ve got 4 more years to go before our federal government goes pfffffffffft and deflates into a cloud of stinking gas and bubbling soot. Just as the leaders of the Soviet Union one day woke up and understood that their Soviet empire was gone, and all that was left is Russia.
The formation of the US and its Constitution was a bellwether for humanity. Up until then, the world was run by elites, and 99% of folks were serfs, working slave like to the elite. Even as world population grows, it’s shrinking in industrialized countries. What this means for what the world will be like in 50 years, I don’t know.

@Jarek — I worked with two Nigerians for a number of years and both were Catholics, supported a family and were smart, hard-working people. Where I’m concerned, are the number of young, Muslim men flooding into Europe. What seems to work best is if the immigrants have the same, basic culture (Judeo-Christian) so they start from the same assumptions about how to live. But I’m not an anthropologist so that may not be correct.

Most people alive now never actually lived in a relatively unspoiled world.
After WW2 human civilization (except in the USA) was destroyed and cities and factories demolished.
But the natural world had not yet had chemical weapons unleashed on it. Pesticides came from weapons and they started dumping them on food crops and other commodities.
The use of fossil fuels ramped up dramatically.
Industrial fishing and the burning of vast amounts of rain forest commenced.
The people alive back then reacted with horror and bills were passed to protect the environment (and promptly ignored).
We don’t know any different. We never saw skies full of birds or worms in our apples. The oldest of us vaguely remember lack of air conditioning, one car families and walking to school, but those born after 1980 (the majority of people in this country) don’t remember any of that.
After the 80s the destruction of the environment and the use of oil skyrocketed.
And now we are here, and most people are bitching and moaning that the party is over. Not fair! The government should provide More!

I remember driving out here to California in 1980, how beautiful it was. I80 had long stretches between Sacramento and Oakland of open land, farms, and cows. Now, it’s one 90 mile long, soulless suburb.
The population has more than doubled since I was born, an it hasn’t made the place better. Everyone who is alive now is alive because of fossil fuels. We eat it, wear it, keep warm/cool with it. Without it, billions will die. It’s that simple. FFs “fueled” unprecedented population growth on this planet. Because that’s what humans do: expand into the food supply. We NEVER limit ourselves. Lots of cheap food=lots of kids.

Yes, what is now called Silicon Valley used to be called the Valley of Heart’s Delight. It was beautiful and when you came into it the highway (2 lanes) was lined with farmer’s produce stands.

I noticed in the 1990’s, recent college graduates denying this assertion. The only so called fact that they would assert is that according to them “truth is relative”. They learned to think like this from their professors so the idea entered the University before then. It seems like these people are now in positions where they make important decisions. Here’s the freedom that will arrive in the long emergency. Freedom to grow your own food. Think of the victory gardens that grew almost 40% of our food during WWII. Also during WWII not much driving was going on at all, gas was rationed. So a person was free to ride a bicycle on most public roads – free of fear of being run over in traffic. We will be free of electric clothes dryers, we’ll be using indoor racks or outdoor clotheslines. We’ll be free from dish washers and garbage disposals. Municipalities of whatever type won’t have the resources to process our kitchen scraps in expensive sewage treatment plants. They won’t have the resources to treat all our harmless and non toxic urine either, say hello to bedpans and saving water. We’ll be free of the trash being taught in schools and universities because the resources to run that infrastructure won’t exist. Winter heat for many/most people will come via wood or coal – like it was here locally in hillbilly country in the 40’s. We will be free from high heating bills and healthier due to the excercise involved in producing firewood. Great quality food and the excercise involved in doing all these things for ourselves will lead to freedom from the medical industrial complex. Freedom is coming our way!
How about the freedom to explore the stars and maybe actually get there. If all those trillions of fiat were actually put to good use instead of just lining assholes pockets, we probably would have colonized a few planets by now or at the least be mining the asteroid belts…..
We’ll get there relatively soon if we don’t blow ourselves up first. I recently read there’s literally $quintillions in some of the rocks.

At age six I spent the entire summer of ’55 in a suburb of Munich Germany, in Pasing. My grandpa there bought me my first bicycle and taught me how to ride it. The country was still in the process of rebuilding and private autos were out of the reach of most people. Many were too poor to afford them, and the infrastructure to support mass motoring hadn’t been rebuilt yet. So my mom let me dissappear on my own to cruise around on my new bike as much as I liked and for as long as I liked. Sometimes I rode with a neighborhood gang of boys on bikes, a lot of them older than I was. As luck would have it, one of Europe’s premier show palaces was just barely within bike riding distance for me, Nymphenburg Palace. A fantastic place for a six year old to go visit, and on my own if I wished. It was my trip and my decision, with no mommies involved in the experience. Why? Because it was a city that was safe for kids to bicycle around in on their own and go exploring!!! And I could enter the palace if I had enough change in my pocket. Show me a six year old anywhere today that gets to experience freedom in that way. The poor child’s life never gets to experience life without the roar of either an automobile or a helicoptering adult nearby.

She was on deck and close by at the ceremony when Japan officially surrendered. She grew up dirt poor as a Florida panhandle cracker, and yet managed to become the first woman to fly faster than the speed of sound in an F86 I believe it was.

My children 31,29,25 were fortunate to grow up free. I don’t think their experience too different than mine and my parents were as trusting as they come.
My favorite story to tell is that in the summer of 1968 my dad’s best friend had moved from DC to direct Peace Corps operations in Georgetown Guyana. His oldest two children were 15 and 13 (like my sister and me) and invited us to come visit. So my Dad and Mom put us on a plane in Alabama to Miami where we had to overnight. (In 1968 underage brothers and sisters could contract for a hotel room without a big fuss.) We then took an Eastern flight to Port au Prince with a long layover. So my sister and I got off the plane in the middle of a gigantic market, grabbed a cab, and toured the city for a couple of hours. The cab driver delivered us back to the tarmac where we climbed the stairs back to our plane. We then flew on to Georgetown, Guyana where we took a 1 week excursion by ourselves to Kaiteur Falls.
Confession: I would not send my children to Haiti at 15 years old today BUT my oldest son has spent 3 summers helping at an orphanage in Acapulco which I informed him was not smart but perhaps the world is not as dangerous as we think it is?
If you tour the palace they are bound to take you to a special room called “Gallery of Beauties”. The room has some 36 paintings of various ladies, ranging in rank from a shoemaker’s daughter to an archduchess married into the Habsburg family in Vienna. King Ludwig I had these paintings made during a few decades starting in around 1830 maybe. Some of the women in the collection of paintings were mistresses, others just friends that he found so attractive that he decided they belonged up on the wall in that special room. Back in that time, Bavarian Catholics didn’t get themselves all upset or excited about kings having mistresses. And this king was so fond of the ladies that his court painter made them near immortal. Countless millions of tourists have gone through that room and enjoyed looking at all that feminine beauty in the portraits.

As a kid in the ’70’s my brother and I would come home to an empty house – mom at work and/or school. We’d get on our bikes, or wander off into the woods for hours at a time. No worries. Later, motorcycles expanded our radius of action by an order of magnitude. Still, no worries other than the cops (easily outmaneuvered by jumping the ditch and going cross-country) and a full-body road-rash (which heals eventually – but until then provides some cool scars!).
What happened? Our government decided that it cared for us…
It’s a parent problem. WE let our kids wander, ride their bikes to school, and play in the woods. We got them cell phones when they made all A’s in middle school. It was hard to watch them with all their friends texting and ignoring them but they developed reserves of sociability to stay “included”. The government had little to do with it.
I was a depression baby (1933) USA population ~126 mill. Lots of room to move around and and we pretty much had to work to get along. By the start of WWII (1941) population ~ 133 mill. So I went to school and college for a while and in 1952 I joined the AF as an aviation cadet. Population about 157 mill. Not bad, lots of room except for big cities and no one had to live there. When I retired (1972) population ~209 mill. You don’t retire with three kids at home so I built houses and cabinets without much problem. Gas was scarce and interest was high but not bad. Fast forward to 2022, population ~333 mill. In my lifetime I can see 2.5 times as many people in the same space. What could possibly go wrong? Well, it did and we are living with it.
Wow you are 1 year younger than my mom, who’s having her 90th birthday this year. Congrats on such a long life, with hopefully many more years to come.

Really? The USA before the 1970’s? I was born in a small town in ’49. Most all of the moms on my street were home, running the household and raising children. My mom could make clothing with a sewing machine, and she canned and froze produce, some of which we grew ourselves. We had one primitive black and while tv set that we watched in the living room. We had one car and dad drove it to work. In summer or after school, most moms only had a general idea of where her children were. She knew they were someplace in the neighborhood, most likely running with a pack of other kids. At suppertime moms could sometimes be heard yelling for their kids, hoping they’d hear. If they didn’t, and you got home late, you might find that your siblings ate everything up, including the ice cream. We walked or rode bicycles to school. There was a large collie dog running around with our pack of neighborhood kids, back in the 50’s dogs and children weren’t restrained by leash laws. So this dog followed us to school and back. There was no ac and the school windows and doors were open during the hot season and our neighbor’s dog followed the kids inside and would hang out in the hallways until recess where he’d be out on the playground romping around like everyone else. Some of the teachers would leave a water bowl out in the hall for the critter. There were a few complaints about this being wrong somehow, but the dog’s owner was prominent and influential enough in our town that he told the local powers that be – that the dog was going to school and that was it. And that’s how it was in the 50’s.
Awesome. Actually, not a whole lot different when I was a kid in the 1960s and 1970s. Dogs ran around in a pack all day and I’d run into them in the park and play with them. Then they’d go home for dinner & their respective families. Hardly anyone spayed or neutered. By then, a lot more women worked. My mom was stay at home but many of my friends/neighbors had working moms. Mostly they were secretaries or teachers. It was pretty free, like you, we ran around all over the place all day.

@Benr — I know this is being touted as a major cause of air pollution & climate change but it’s never made any sense to me. Early settlers and trappers in America described buffalo herds as being immense — stretching from horizon to horizon. So they didn’t emit any methane?! Only cows do?! And that’s not to take into account how many herds of other mammals there were too.
I used to actually believe all the climate change propaganda but no more. It makes sense that with population soaring in some parts of the world, it would have an impact on the environment. But my guess is polluting our dwindling sources of fresh water will have a real impact.
@SW: I did some research a few years ago, and found out that there are approx. as many cows now as there were bison “back in the day”.
I think the main difference would be in the way we keep them (confined) and the food we feed them (grain). Cows are not really natural grain eaters. They’re not even primarily grass eaters. They’re browsers, like deer. After all, they descend from a woodland animal, the Aurochs. Feeding them such concentrated food disturbs their natural gut biome, and makes them gassier.
The solution is to put them on pasture with browse available. They’ll be leaner, with a better fatty acid profile in the meat. They’ll also be less profitable/more expensive.
Of course, no one ever mentions all the methane HUMANS release. Put us all on a vegan diet, and watch THAT skyrocket. Yeesh.
One thing I was surprised to learn is that buffalo herds reached all the way into where West Virginia is now, and they were first encountered by Spaniards exploring that part of N America in the 1550s.
Yeah, Outlander showed a Buffalo in North Carolina. I had to check the accuracy of that and found yep, they were there.

It really frustrates me to see Americans spending 7.5 billion on 4th of July food, 1.5 billion on consumer fireworks, and 1.4 billion on alcohol today. How much debt do they have? How truly independent are they from a system that wants them dead? Just encountered a small but loud group of patriot-styled young men at the park where I was walking my dogs, upon return to my car. They were shout/singing “I’m Proud to Be An American” while blasting the Lee Greenwood song from their car. They were all hopped up on their high energy drinks no doubt meeting to go on the river rafting run. I considered asking them what they thought about some current events but then decided not to, as they seemed too pumped on being an American to actually think about anything.
It didn’t bug me to see them loudly declaiming, though, in fact I thought it was almost kinda funny and ironic, the overly-loud singing and fist waving and shouting, as if they were trying really hard to convince themselves of America’s greatness.
I do love the US – many aspects of it anyway – but I’ve never been the patriotic sort. I don’t think any country is any better than any other one. Just different.
It’s nature to love your mother more than other people’s mother – even if she isn’t better.

There are few things that are more fun than river rafting–or a nice float trip. These activities require beer. You can get by without it, as I always did when I had five kids (the youngest age 2) and a dog in the raft. When the kids got older, the oldest started to demand beer. Turns out, she was right. Alcohol turns the river–which is pretty darned good when you’re sober–into a wonderland.
As for the singing and hollering: This stuff is an expression of conviviality, like coyotes howling at night. Also like people bumping fists and proclaiming, “My dawg!” and inquiring, “Wha’d up?” Obviously, these effusions are not actual conversation and possibly don’t even rise to the level of actual language.
I don’t look down on the coyotes for howling or the roosters for crowing. With humans, the onlly tragedy is if they can’t do any better (which is probable in the case Mary described). But i don’t have any real issue with people having fun–even on the Fourth. Maybe they should be talking about the Federalist Papers instead, but that’s not what you usually do on a float trip.
No booze for me when I’m headed down river. Alcohol separates me from nature – as well as reason.
If I really want to get into Nature, I’ll drop some acid before I drop my kayak into the river/lake/ocean. No escape form the power and glory of Nature then. Feel God carrying you downriver. Feel God pounding you into the rocks beneath a waterfall. Laugh as God punches you in the face, and throws you into the sea with His waves – where He crushes the air from your lungs. A humble, “Thank you”.
Of course you don’t need “drugs” to appreciate Nature – but if your soul is asleep, entheogens just might wake it up.

I did formerly have a trustworthy neighbor, back before I moved. He said several times he could get shrooms for me, but he never came through. (There’s something not quite right about a person who doesn’t smoke pot. We’re unpredictable.)
As for booze, when I’m “on the river,” I’m on a float trip down the Mermec River–usually not much riskier than tubing at Worlds of Fun. Except for the water snakes. And the first time I drank beer on a float trip, it felt like I was on acid, I think because of the heat.

Your gender remark reminds me of something I was very surprised to run into yesterday: The NYT which is fully in accord with all the Progressive BS must have slipped up when writing about all the airline and airport chaos. The fourth of July is a date that gives me an opportunity to say something more about Peter. I’ve told some of this before but it bears repeating and provides a nice segue to some new stuff.
It was 8 years ago on this date of the unique American national holiday that Peter’s wife died. Her arrival at this point had been long and difficult and made Peter an angry man since Darlene was the sole source of order in his life. He would deny that but deep down I think he knew it. Peter is the perfect example of a “hot mess” that JHK spoke of today.
Years before her death Dar had come down with something the doctors could not put a definitive label on but they called it Parkinsonism or, alternatively, MSA (multiple system atrophy). I prefer the second label since it describes exactly what happened to Dar over time… all systems atrophied. By the end she could barely swallow or talk.
It started with barely noticeable things like tripping over a tiny twig and falling flat on her face. And then there was something called “restless leg syndrome.” Google definition. Peter blamed the doctors for incompetency but Parkinson’s is a nasty disease for which there is, to date, no cure.
Years dragged on, Peter had inherited a going-concern business from a former boss, made some significant bucks, blew through them and never saved a dime. No 401k, no IRA. He always assumed his mini-mansion out in Washington Twp, NJ (near Walter B) would appreciate in value and he would eventually tap that value like a piggy bank. But Washington is out in the boonies with no major source of employment so when people in this development of mini-mansions tried to sell they got less than they imagined at the time they bought there.
Peter’s business declined and whatever money he made he pissed away until he simply stopped paying his mortgage, taxes, utilities, HOA fees and other bills. When he finally sold the house – a tale of fuck-ups worthy of a novel in its own right which I have partially described previously here on this blog – he received $xxx$ from which the long overdue mortgage payments etc. were first extracted. He netted out $89K into his bank account and promptly moved to the west coast of Florida, land of dead beats and other ne’er-do-wells using the excuse that they can’t stand the cold weather up north. In addition to the net of the house sale money Peter was receiving $2,600/mo from Soc Sec and a pension from his wife’s employment.
In the interest of time and space I need to skip over Peter’s confrontation with a cop at a 4-way stop at the very corner of his development. There were multiple charges, he had to hire a lawyer which cost him many thousands of dollars, he was convicted, fined, placed on parole which he violated many times. He escaped to FL leaving my house as a forwarding address for his mail.
So by the time my wife and I went to FL to rescue Peter from the brink of death and bring him back to Jersey he had pissed through all but $13,500 of the $89K and $46.8K of SS and pension money received over 1.5 years. Due to his severe heart disease and attendant lack of oxygen to the brain he literally could not recall that he had lived 20 years in Washington, NJ and sold a house there. He had the gall to ask me “but where did all that money go?” and I said “that’s what I want to ask YOU.”
OK, you get the drift, Peter is a fuck-up. With all the above as preface let me move on to some new stuff which pales in insignificance compared to the above but never-the-less annoys the living shit out of me.
Peter loves to go out to dinner and hardly a day passes when he doesn’t offer to take us out to dinner. And he has no qualms about picking up the tab. In fact he likes to pay because it makes him feel he has been living a successful life. He wears certain jewelry including a Rolex watch (and other ostentatious items) which is NEVER set to the right time. So the other night we went to the Outback Steakhouse. My wife and I ordered modest sized meals and Peter, as always, ordered some huge slab of meat, a baked potato and a large glop of rice. (Wife pointed out that was two ‘starches’ and why not chose some green vegetable… wasting her breath talking to a brick wall.) His entree was $33. To drink he ordered a beer. He took the 22 oz size glass rather than the 16 oz glass and wound up leaving un-drunk about 6ozs. He has no sense of scale… not a frugal bone in his body.
All three of us had leftover food which we packed up in plastic containers to take home. Peter was only able to consume 25-30% of his food. Maybe he was just saving space for desert which he was dying to get from a place in town he refers to as Sheeny Queen. He calls it that because it is a kosher place that draws a lot of Jewish customers easily recognizable by their clothing. Sheeny is Peter’s anti-Semitic label for Jews when referring to them in a generic sense even though his wife was a non-religious half Jew and although Peter had kind words for certain Jewish customers of his business.
The ‘Queen’ is Peter’s mistaken notion that the establishment is a Dairy ‘Queen’ when it is actually a Dairy Deluxe but Peter was never one for detail. All erroneous utterances are acknowledged with “whatever.” What Peter was apparently saving space for in his stomach was a pineapple milk shake. I think that milk shake had been on his mind all day because earlier in the day he refused to eat a hamburger placed in front of him by my wife. He just let it sit there untouched for half an hour. Then he draped a napkin over it. Like a petulant child he wanted us to go to ‘Sheeny Queen’ for lunch. We refused.
This is my one fresh Peter anecdote for the moment. I’ll report others if and when they pop into my mind.
I trust that there will be a book soon, chronicling this ongoing anthology? With a forward by Jim and published by the distinguished Ruckers Press, no doubt?

What you have written here is only somewhat true. Let me explain.
Ambulatory: he can walk up/down to/from the third floor. I believe it is only a matter of time before he missteps or his pants fall down and cause him to fall and break his hip and that will be the beginning of the end exactly as it happened with his mother who we cared for on the 3rd floor for 9 years. After breaking her hip in 2013 she lived the last 7 mos of her life in a nursing home and died at 92 on April 30, 2014. I foresee a similar outcome for Peter. Further, just to get out now and then, Peter goes food shopping with Bo. He pushes the cart to have something to hold himself up but can’t be on his feet 15 mins before he is exhausted and must sit down.
Can dress himself: True, but not properly. He should NEVER go without suspenders but he refuses to use them because he can’t get into them without help. He uses only a belt, has no ass, and therefore his pants fall down often and it’s embarrassing when it happens in a restaurant or supermarket. Wife constantly reminds him to change his dirty clothes. He says he has no clean clothes to put on. Bullshit, my wife does his laundry, folds it, and places it in a basket near the foot of his bed.
Can feed himself: in a pinch, if hungry he can forage in the fridge and more often than not will eat a bowl of ice cream. I can always tell when Peter has been in the Fridge. Bottle caps are NEVER screwed back on bottles tightly. They are cock-eyed and only given a half twist, soda goes flat, etc.
Goes to the toilet on his own: Haha, a major sore point. He pisses on the floor all the time. His bathroom has an old wood floor that I sanded and polyurethaned some years ago. The poly is peeling up and the wood is rotting around the base of the toilet. Just yesterday my wife began to insist that we need to have the floor ripped out and replaced with something more resistant to Peter’s piss and easily cleaned… like tile or whatever. I tried to convince Peter he should sit while peeing but got negative facial feedback to the suggestion. Also, as mentioned elsewhere he only flushes the toilet half the time, even after doing #2. He’s a real pig.

If there was any need to turn Peter every 2 hours the med’l people would have done it but I doubt that they did. The day we arrived to get Peter it was frightening to look at him. I make no claim to sainthood but my wife probably could. She is actually as disgusted with Peter as I am but, frustrating to me, she will not lash out verbally at her brother. If anything she continues to talk sweetly to him when she should be tearing him a new asshole.
Here’s but one instance: On Saturday my wife was away all day to Toms River, NJ visiting two HS chums. She didn’t get home until almost 8pm. This meant Peter and I had to fend for ourselves for food. Normally Bo would serve both of us a meal.
So, around 7 – 7:30 I was feeling rather hungry and went to the kitchen where I knew there was plenty of leftovers from the Outback Steakhouse meal. The first thing I spotted was a messy plate on the counter right next to the sink and several cups and utensils in the sink. These were Peter’s items. When Peter finishes a meal he carries his dishes to the vicinity of the sink and I guess he figures that is the extent of his duties. I say this because I am not lying when I report that in the past 1.5 years since the rescue of Peter from Florida he has not washed or rinsed off so much as a single saucer or teaspoon.
I am an obsessive compulsive dish-washer. If there is ANYthing in or near the kitchen sink or counter I will wash it dry it and put it away before doing anything else like eating, even if starving or the house is burning down. This is a known personality trait of mine throughout the extended family.
So, my point being, Peter had gotten hungry and indulged himself maybe two hours ahead of me. At the very moment I finished doing Peter’s dishes my wife appeared in the kitchen doorway. She looked to my left and said “why is the refrigerator door open?” It was ajar about 4-5 inches. “Holy shit” I blurted “I didn’t even notice because all Peter’s dirty dishes caught my eye.” We both understood that the ajar refrig door was Peter’s doing just as we know that if Peter ‘uses the facilities’ the odds of him flushing the toilet are only 50-50.
I tried to get Bo to say something to Peter about the refrig door but she wouldn’t. She feels confrontation is counter-productive. I responded “Spare the rod and spoil the child.”
Last night I couldn’t take it any longer and I spoke harshly to Peter “are you aware that you left the refrigerator door ajar for two hours?” He said “you’re kidding?” “NO PETER, I’M NOT KIDDING.”

We have done little in the way of preparing for a fossil fuels gone world.
We are seeing the beginning of the oil price shooting up and it is raising hell everywhere.
In the past, oil has always gone down after a bit. Most everyone now is keeping their trucks, SUVs expecting to see everything return to normal. It may if they kick up the production somehow. One of these times though, it won’t.
What would the reaction be if something happened that would convince everyone that the oil situation is just going to keep going up. I mean every Jack and Jill in the world. What would happen?
Worse than that, what would happen if apathy remains and the oil market falls off a cliff and we are paying 20 or 30 dollars a gallon for gasoline.
My point is, why can’t Mankind for once figure out a long term plan to account for FF depletion? We needed to start thirty years ago. We need to keep as much of the remaining oil left for things other than transportation. A FF clock should be started, showing the time left.
The world will change, it has to. It would be nice to design the change rather than fight wars in reaction to the change.

If success is to be measured by humans-as-a-whole, then what about the animals?

I went to a 4th of July celebration hosted by the military. I arrived an hour late so missed some of it but during the 4 hours of musical entertainment I didn’t recognize one patriotic song. Maybe they played every one during the first hour. No “America the Beautiful”, no “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, no “Yankee Doodle”, no “Rally round the Flag”, no “Dixie”, none of the military services theme songs, nothing. The closest thing was when the Army Band played “When the Saints come Marching in.” I’ve been here a few years and have heard more American patriotic songs played by Korean musicians than by the American musicians who come over to entertain the troops. The Koreans seem fond of “The battle hymn of the Republic.” If I go to Christmas party I expect to hear some Jesus oriented music and at a 4th of July celebration especially one hosted by the U. S. Military I expect to hear some Patriotic stuff, John Phillip Sousa marches. No, I expect to hear a lot of patriotic stuff. Not that I minded the boomer rock and the K-Pop girls were a cute interlude but the omission of the classic patriotic songs we all sang together in elementary school seems wrong.

My first , and still primary reason for disliking July 4th is that it is too fucking hot.
That would be OK I suppose , if the holiday were a week , or even a modest three days.
But in most years July 4th does not fall on a Friday or a Monday , so what most people get is one crummy day , a predictably punishingly hot day.
Not only one crummy day , at a less than ideal time , but for most again it is an unpaid holiday.
And finally the choice of that date is a choice , and arguable.
For example , you could just as well say that the birthday of the United States was April 19th.

Prior to April 19th , the conventional wisdom held that , ” American ” and ” British ” were one and the same thing , and British troops WERE OUR troops.

I know most people who haven’t experienced life around alcoholics are more forgiving, but I know a LOT about it. And there is no way your kids recover from being raised by someone who drank all the time. You can lie to yourself all you want (my friends who are alcoholics do) but it literally steals their childhoods and creates life-long anxiety and depression, whether or not you choose to see it.

While I would say that, yes, it is, does it therefore follow that this life may not be destroyed? Not necessarily. I have spent the past couple of days trying to get a bead on one of our many rabbits–even taken to having my morning coffee on the front porch with my .22 at hand. No luck so far. Another literary line of “fate” comes to mind, in “The Religion.” Tanhauser has just killed the dying Ludovico with the dagger he forged as a child (quenched in a murder’s blood). For one thing, we are not supposed to dine on our fellow humans–nor even kill them in the first place without some very pressing (and just) reasons for doing so, primarily defense: self-defense, defense of others, defense of home and property, or (in the case of capital punishment) defense of society. We are particular forbidden to take innocent life, and it is, or should be, naturally abhorrent to us to take the life of an innocent child or infant, whether born or unborn. This is against every human feeling, or so you would think.
The “overpopulation” argument doesn’t hold water for two reasons. One is that we are talking about the US, which is not overpopulated. Nor is anyone here starving. Some people are crowded up–though most people are not–and a pretty large percentage of us are living in houses that are WAY too big. E.g., there are a lot of empty-nesters living in 3,000 square foot McMansions. Family homes in the US are now probably at least twice the size of the average US family home in the 1950s. As for those who are crowded up, if crowding is an issue for them, maybe the thing to do would be to “un-crowd” them (we have plenty of room in the US), rather than kill their children.
To advocate for abortion because of overpopulation is like arguing that the lifeboat is overcrowded (when it’s not) with inadequate food and water (when there is enough); therefore we should throw the children overboard–for…um…”humane” reasons. A poor solution, even if circumstances were dire. In any case, circumstances are NOT dire, and there are many other solutions to whatever problems exist.
And your argument that we should be “wisely shaping the future world for the culminative benefit of the next generation” is a classic “ends justify the means” argument.

Most often, however, the abortion option is chosen to avoid personal hardship. If you decide to carry the baby to term and give it up for adoption, it will likely be physically uncomfortable for awhile, and you might have to move in with your mom–or stay in a home for unwed mothers, where they will probably pray over you. If you decide to keep the baby, you might be poor and have to pinch pennies. You might have to move in with your mom or live in Section 8 housing. Your social life and dating prospects will probably be limited. You might be lonely. So you are making sacrifices for a loved one.
What you are NOT doing is living through the Great Siege of Malta fighting off the Turks. You are not a WWII fighter pilot with only a slim chance of survival. You are not storming Normandy Beach. These are instances in which people defended their people–including their kids–with their lives. You think maybe sacrifices of this kind are not required of you from time to time? While it has been said that it takes more courage to live humbly than to die heroically, will you stand up for your kid’s life? If you won’t stand up for your kid’s life, what WILL you stand up for?

I have problems (shocking, I know) with many of these points.
“Humans are not the same order of being as lettuces and rabbits.” I would say humans are like large hairless rabbits, or extremely mobile lettuces… and reverence for life includes humans, lettuces and rabbits.
“we are talking about the US, which is not overpopulated.” This is just debatable. I think it is. Less so than Europe or India, but still overpopulated.

These practices are relatively well documented among many primitive tribes.
Essentially, good mothers have been utilizing extreme means of birth-control since time immemorial, if they felt it was in their offspring’s best interest. But, you think you can correct their heartless bad habits?

Ironically, people are maiming and killing their children of all ages now, or just sterilizing them, in the name of the trans agenda craze or by giving them the clotshot.
