It stands on its own, in a world full of mediocre and predictable x-men.
5 Stars
It stands on its own, in a world full of mediocre and predictable x-men.
A breath of fresh air and, as the title suggests, is indeed new xmen. Morrison has done a great job of building on classic characters and new characters alike, developing each with unique personalities and dialogue so that each character legitimately has its own place within the story. This run is actually one LONG story with many twists and turns, in and outs, major and minor details that play into the story as a whole. With Morrison, anything can happen, and anything does happen in this story; each issue is completely unpredictable and frankly can be just plain weird, almost to a point of confusion, which I would say is the only drawback to this great omnibus. But again, the shining part of this run is the character development and interaction; morrison adds new spins and facets on each character that makes characters appear so uncannily themselves and interact with each other so perfectly, one would think that this is really the way the x-men are and were. There are several pages of bonus content with extra art and concepts, but my favorite portion is the Morrison Manifesto which essentially is the drawn up game plan of Morrison's take on what the New X-men should and should not be. You get to look into his head for a moment and see where he wanted to the series to grow and how he went about creating this great run.The omnibus itself is high quality, over a thousand pages I believe, its a beast of a book. The cover is great with an awesome logo that can be read from both directions (its the little details like this that put this omnibus into the 5 star range for me.) The art is pretty solid throughout the book; personally I will say that the art is not my favorite. The art is great don't get me wrong, its just the aesthetics of the style do not satisfy my eyes like some other artists do. Thats my prerogative and certainly shouldn't deter you from picking it up.Overall a great read, I would definitely recommend it to any one interested in x-men, newbie or veteran.
