Angela Scanlon has said that she’s ‘inappropriately excited’ after landing her dream job which will see her follow in the footsteps of Ryan Tubridy.
The Ask Me Anything star has found a successful career in the UK, most recently appearing on Strictly Come Dancing where she and her professional partner Carlos Gu were the ninth couple eliminated.
Following her stint on Strictly, Angela has announced her new venture — joining Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio UK in the next few weeks.
Angela will be replacing fellow Irishman Graham Norton, who recently left his weekend breakfast show — with Angela’s new show airing every Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 10am.
‘I know how many of you have dreamt about waking up to my husky dulcet tones, well dreams come true gang!’ Angela said of the new show.
‘I’ll be getting up with you every weekend on Virgin Radio and I am inappropriately excited. Stick the kettle on!’
Graham did his radio show for over 13 years, with him admitting that while he’ll still pop up on the station he ‘wants his weekends back.’
Angela spoke about her and Carlos’ eliminations from the show last December, admitting that she ‘sobbed for days’ after crashing out of the show.
‘Literally, I’ve been sobbing for days, so I’m hoping to keep my s*** together on this,’ Angela told the Parenting Hell podcast.
‘It’s mad. It really affected me, yeah, in ways I hadn’t really anticipated, which I think is good in life. It’s nice to be knocked around the head with a bit of surprise and levels of emotion that aren’t really felt in day-to-day situations and certainly not in professional [ones].
‘You know you have highs and lows but I love an old deep cry.’
Angela also admitted that she was kicked off the show earlier than expected, saying ‘It felt a bit premature and just a bit unlucky. You know there’s a kind of, like, fall of the cards. And also [in] Blackpool, we had done like an amazing routine that was kind of like our best of the series, so it was a comedown.’
