Google is bringing its innovative Circle to Search feature to more Android devices. Announced in January alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Circle to Search allows users to search for information on their screen by circling or scribbling on content. Along with the wider rollout, Google is also enhancing the feature's functionality and accessibility by introducing a new translation function.

Google's Circle to Search is an AI-powered app that enables users on Android devices to search by circling items on their screen without leaving their current apps. Introduced alongside the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, the feature was gradually made available on the latest Pixel and Samsung flagships - the Pixel 8 series and the Galaxy S24 lineup. However, Google is now significantly expanding the feature's reach. This week, Circle to Search is rolling out to all currently supported Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, and 7a. Google's foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, and the upcoming Pixel Tablet will also receive Circle to Search "coming soon."

Samsung users are in for a treat as well. The upcoming One UI 6.1 update, scheduled for later this week, will introduce Circle to Search to the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and Tab S9 series. While details on future availability for other Android devices are scarce, a hint in a Samsung support document suggests a potential wait until October.

Translation feature in Circle to Search

Previously, translating on-screen text in Circle to Search involved copying the text and then using a separate translation app. However, Google is removing this two-step process and integrating a translate button directly within Circle to Search. With a single tap, users can now instantly translate the selected text, eliminating the need for copying and switching apps. This translates to a smoother workflow, particularly for users who frequently encounter documents, PDFs, or webpages in foreign languages.

Apart from the wider rollout and availability of the translation tool within the Circle to Search feature, Google is also enhancing the shopping experience within Search. Users can now expect more personalised "style recommendations" when searching for apparel, shoes, and accessories. Imagine searching for "straw tote bags" or "men's polo shirts" and being presented with curated options based on your past preferences. This personalization is achieved by allowing users to rate options with a simple thumbs up/down or a swipe action. Google remembers these ratings, ensuring future shopping results better reflect your taste.

Meanwhile, in line with the new updates and features, Google is also testing trip planning features within Google Search, currently available only for users in the US searching in English. Imagine asking Google Search to "plan me a 3-day history trip to Philadelphia." The Search will provide you with a neatly organised itinerary that includes suggested attractions, restaurants, and even flight and hotel options, all conveniently displayed within Search.

By leveraging information from other Google services like Maps, reviews, and photos, Google is making its Search a one-stop-shop for trip planning. Users can even export their itineraries to Gmail, Docs, or Maps for easy access later.
